As there's not a chance the Mets will pay him, this is obvious anyway.

The Mets deserve to be trolled so hard by Wright for the obnoxious comments Wilpon made about him last year.

The Braves could use a good third baseman...

All washed up Major Leaguers eventually end up on the Yankees, so he may get his shot.

so all washed up players are good enough to make it to the world series?
you know since the yankees are filled with washed up players.

Heh. Yeah. Who would want a 3rd baseman who's putting up a .325/.416/.536?

Seriously, I'd hate to see him go probably more than I've ever hated to see anyone else go, but I'd understand. Though I think they'll be better next year with Harvey (and possibly Wheeler?) up full-time. But something drastic would have to be done to the bullpen.

I see the Yankees or BoSox coming up with the big bucks to pay Wright for him to appear on their DLs.

who's been in the top 5 in VORP all year long, and was hitting .400 earlier this year with a broken pinky.

I doubt it. The Yankees seem to operate a a budget now. Yes, a massive, bloated corpse of a budget, but they are actively trying to keep the payroll from ballooning further and to get down closer to the tax level. A-Rod's contract is going to hamstring them for awhile (although the annual cost is falling) and they are going to have to pay Cano and Granderson a shiatton of money soon. I suspect the savings from losing Mo and Jeter will pay for those two, but I wouldn't expect to see the Yankees be huge players in free agency for a bit, except to replace expensive players they are/could be losing (Swisher, Kuroda, Soriano, Martin).

So you see, the one guy, he said "GOOD third baseman".... then the other guy, he said,

Oh you know what, forget it.

You mean if you discount the year he's having this year?

You know, the Phillies in 2014 will have a hell of a lot of financial flexibility, and unless something miraculous happens this offseason, will still be in desperate need of a 3rd baseman. They're going to be in full-on spending mode. Come on, David, look at the big benefit: you get to stay in the same division that you're comfortable with, and as a bonus, get to have revenge on the Mets 18 times a year....

/yea, I know it'll never happen

As it happens, the teams with the best shot at making the World Series tend to be those which can afford to pay the most money, so Wright's statement is essentially meaningless.

It depends. Will he be able to be in steep decline by the end of that contract? Otherwise Ruben's not interested.

David Wright was hit in the head in 2009.

From 2004-2008, he had a 139 OPS+
From 2010-now, he's had a 136 OPS+
