Reminds me of one of the best Hollywood Squares moment:

Host: Can a lion and tiger mate?

Rose Marie: You try and stop 'em.

Human males will fark just about anything with (or without) a pulse.
The idea that we were banging Neanderthal chicks is hardly a stretch.

It was more likely the other way around. Neanderthal women were, by all accounts, rather burly.

It probably wasn't the norm but like every other fetish there was an entire cave wall devoted to human/neanderthal pr0n.

Wide, child bearing hips and the belly fat is evidence enough she knows how to hunt and gather, so she can help the family keep from starving.

My question is, "Who Wouldn't?"

Why would scientists even need to ask that question? Have they never met subby's mom?

Whether the couplings were viable for offspring or that some/all/none of those offspring could reproduce, is moot to that question. I'm sure they were raped and/or had sex frequently upon cross contact. Taboos only came with further culture so a primitive horny protohumanoid would have been like a dog humping any leg that wasn't attached to something trying to make the humanoid into a meal.

Humans and neanderthals lived in close proximity for a time, didn't they? Then yes, there was canoodling.

This argument makes my racist-senses tingle. Evidence that non-Africans were the result of some sort of unique hybridization or that native Africans are the result of a different hybridization than the rest of the species might be manipulated to support all kinds of white supremacy theories. I cringe in anticipation.

2012-08-14 12:22:25 PM
Did they mate? If tribes of both species were living in the same area at the same time and occasional mingling happened, I'd be surprised if they didn't try to mate.

Did they have offspring? Maybe. First, such offspring would need to be accepted as an "us" by the tribe and not left behind as the tribe foraged as soon as they were born. Second, if accepted, such offspring would need to be fertile once they reach adulthood. Third, if fertile, tribe members would have to accept such hybrid individuals as mates.

Given that string of "if's" and the possibility that certain populations retained traits from common ancestors that other populations lost, it is no wonder that scientists are saying probable but not certain.

Yeah but you can't worry about white supremacists when you're formulating your science. They're pretty much the walking refutation of their own ideology, and their double-digit IQ's pretty much guarantee they wouldn't understand even the most basic theory even if it couldn't be twisted to fit their pre-existing views.

Because when one learns that most non-Africans have some small portion of Neanderthal in their genome, the first thing to come to one's mind is white supremacy? Purity? What?

If anything, it seems a far easier lead-in to the black supremacist canard of "Eurasians are just depigmented cave-monkeys, we're the real humans."

I dunno, she looks like she'd clean up nice but I'm just not into the tribal tattoo thing. What's next, some barbed wire around her arm? Maybe a kanji she doesn't know says "duck soup"?

Fark the TFA' author. I'm claiming my 4% and Mr Boyle can kiss my arse. My wife, too, with her pale skin, red hair and green eyes. She's rather petitely built, though, at 5'6" and 109 lbs, but hey, three out of four ain't bad!

It's not so difficult to manipulate. Do to Neandertals what the Nazis did to Aryans:

step 1: improve the reputation of neandertals.

step 2: elevate them to the level of mythical 'super race' while creating a heroic/tragic narrative about their demise.

step 3: any group with Neandertal ancestry (or the greatest amount) is now clearly superior while those lacking are inferior

step 4: profit

Aside: Replace Neandertal with Sith and you have one of the premises of SWTOR.

Yeah - not at all a stretch. You have people now-a-days partying with animals as un-homo-sapien-like as sheep and goats. I just read about a guy who was arrested for partying with a horse (again - it was his second offence with the same unlucky lady).

If it exists, some human, some where has at least tried to have sex with it. This pretty much applies to everything.
