Well, who would know better than a guy who has played with a top-5 quarterback for years?

The chargers didn't want him to leave after he healed but they already made a huge investment in rivers so they didn't have a choice unless they piss off the guy they just got.

That being said, Freeman may only be top 20 at best, its way too early to tell.

Well, we're going to see how good Rodgers is isolated from the surrounding talent who look to be scoping out comfortable places on IR. I don't think Freeman is bad, I think he might be quite good. I also recognize the Buccs aren't exactly the desktop of choice for NFL icons. But if I had to take a guess at 2012 it might look like:

Brees,
Dodge Dart spokemodel
Stafford
god help me, Romolicious*
and I guess a pick'em invovling Matt Ryan, Manning the lesser, and others.

Roethlisberger really rapes the competition. I'd say he's better than Manning 2 in that respect. Roethlisberger is like the anti-Tebow.

In whatever order you want to put them, the best nine QBs in the league are Brady, Brees, Roethlisberger, Rodgers, Eli, Peyton, Rivers, Romo, and Stafford. They're the franchise QBs.

Vick and Schaub are sort of on the bubble between this group and the ones who follow.

After them - and that's a full 1/3 of the league, by the way - you have the guys who have flashes of greatness and flashes of ineptitude, but overall are just good enough too keep their jobs. Those guys are Ryan, Cutler, Flacco, Freeman, Cassel and Bradford. So, congratulations, Vince, your QB is in the muddled middle with those who haven't done enough to be replaced but who haven't done enough to be irreplaceable.

Stafford! How could we have forgotten him? How many championships has he led his team to, again?

It's amazing the disrespect Ben Roethlisberger gets. You don't have to like him personally or in any other way to recognize that he is a superior quarterback held back only by his team's philosophy (too wedded to the run for historical reasons) and the never-ending string of injuries that he finds ways to play through when most other players would be out three to six weeks. He's played in three Super Bowls, which is more than Stafford, Rivers, Peyton Manning, Rodgers and Brees collectively.

Hatred has blinded you people. There is NO WAY Stafford or Rivers are better, and Peyton is currently unproven as he hasn't played a real game yet since his return.

But, but STAFFORD! Right.

Personally I think Roethlisberger is a bit underrated and has a better body of work than Stafford, but using championship games to rank QBs is pretty retarded. Do you honestly think the Lions had a better team than the Steelers, even in the last decade? Maybe some of the worst Steelers teams rank around where the best Lions team does. Roethlisberger also has a history of coming back from injuries too early and either sucking or making the injury worse. I appreciate a tough, durable QB more than most (Colts fan here), but there were several games where the Steelers would have been better off with him sitting.

/Roethlisberger does not have more collective SB appearances than Manning and Brees btw

So Roethlisberger gets QB credit for playing on the same team as the Steelers defense. Ridiculous. If the question is top 5 quarterbacks, Roethlisberger isn't a serious answer. Top 5 Dragons? Suuuuuuuure.

If we're talking quarterbacks, Rivers is up there. The lack of super bowls doesn't mean he's not a top-5 QB. That'd be like saying Marino wasn't a top-5 at the time he played. Pretty farking stupid, right?

In fact, by QB rating, Rivers is 5th ALL-TIME in the history of the league, and until last year's tard-season he was #2 all-time if I remember correctly. Who is ranked right after him? Some guy named Peyton Manning.

Roethlisberger is a franchise QB in that he's pretty much what the Steelers want in their franchise system. However you take more NFL fans, tell them "Football is now part of the Olympics and we're putting 5 QBs on the roster, pick the 5", Roethlisberger is not going to be on most of those rosters.

/he's also replaceable if he starts eating up too much of Pitt's cap space
//Brady is getting 18 million a year on average for this contract (4 years, 72 million). Ben is getting 12.75 over the next 8 (102 million total). That's a whole extra veteran defensive player for Pitt right there in cap space

Now, how many rings does Rivers have? Like the old saying goes: "There are lies, damned lies and then statistics" Marino was all-world for years but he couldn't get his team to the big one more than once. Fouts had some great statistical seasons, never got his team to the big one.

Stats are nice and all, they're a great indicator about how good or bad the guy is; but stats don't get you rings. Marino would probably trade many of the records he established to get ONE SB ring. Montana OTOH doesn't have the stats that Marino had, but he was clutch when it mattered and won the title when it mattered. Hell Bart Starr probably doesn't have the numbers Phil Simms had...but he's gone the one that matters: Championships won.

It's interesting to me that I'm not really sure which Manning he meant. It's the first time i just didnt assume the elder. Also Rapistburger is a product of a great running game and defense. We'll see for sure this year. Young line, aging defense and sparse running game but a lot of talemt at wideout. This year for the first time we will see exactly how far he can get based on his abilities and desire to exact his will on others in a situation that doesnt include a drunk college girl.

Chargers fans defending that prick Rivers is adorable. If the guy could make the playoffs every year you might have a point. Finishing behind Tim Fricking Tebow in a quarterbacks league knocked him out the top ten. Tell me the Broncos had more overall talent so I can laugh at you even harder.

Tell ya what, lets just go and say Top 5 in Florida right now. He's got that tied up.

Actually, I'm feeling generous, honest, and slightly tipsy, so I'll even go so far as to say 'Top 5 in that Division'. He's still behind Brees, Ryan, Newton, and maybe Daniels though....I'd like to see the two of them go head-to-head for the #4 spot.

Ah yes, the hater's definition of the quality of an individual player. The argument was about top-5 QUARTERBACKS, not top-5 TEAMS. The point was already made about Rapist-Burger getting top-5 credit not for his awesome play, but the fact that his team's defense won him a shiatload of games. Rivers is top-5 ALL TIME by definition.

No, I simply forgot... Well, there's no excuse for that gaffe. Own it and life goes on, right?

There is a solid argument for a few names better than Roethlisberger, even if I disagree. However, Stafford is not one of them. Nor is Rivers, he of the team with both the best offense and best defense that didn't even make the playoffs that year, if I recall. There's something to be said for getting the job done.

Close. I'm a Bronco fan so I hate Cutler more than Rivers. Rivers yelling at Cutler has become one of his redeeming qualities. Take a survey of people residing outside of San Diego and you'll come back at least 90% prick. Also, him being a religitard isn't a postive.

He is Tebow, with a thousand times the talent and the same amount of heart. He is a less than ideal citizen, but he is a great QB.

Herd-think? Ahhh...I see. Any examples of prickishness that qualify him to be more of a prick than 75% of all NFL QBs though? I know he shouted at fans in Indy when they were being dicks, and there was the Cutler incident. Other than that, he's regarded as one of the classiest guys in the NFL.

/agree about the religitard thing though.

As a bucs fan, last year and freeman in particular were very disappointing. Talk about regression.

Vincent "I can't be bothered to look back to see if the ball was thrown" Jackson is now an expert on QB's?

I mean, I'd expect he'd know how to select a good DUI lawyer, but a QB? I doubt it.

Doogled: Adolf Oliver Nipples: Well, who would know better than a guy who has played with a top-5 quarterback for years?

...

Yeah, I laughed, too. only charger fans aren't laying right now.

/Brady, Brees, Manning, Rodgers, Roethlisberger. End of list.

One of these is not like the others.

Rozotorical: robsul82: Brees, Brady, Rodgers, Manning.1, Manning .2, Roethlisberger. DONE

Stafford!

There's plenty of reason to believe Stafford will be in that group, eventually. But the others all have rings and have demonstrated freakish reliability. As things stand right now, would you rather trust your team to Brees or Stafford?

Search your feelings. You know this to be true.
