Sports headline of the year, done.

2012-08-13 08:05:19 PM
Attention, young wide receivers: If you have a flair for the dramatic, a need for media attention and you frequently create headlines for things other than football accomplishments, consider these flaws that you need to correct. These qualities do not pay any longer.

how do you reach that conclusion? he's been paid well beyond his on-the-field talent for years now.

That's ok, the Vikings are still in need of overpaid douchebag criminal wide receivers. It's practically a requirement for the job.

Yeah...and while I don't want to defend domestic battery either; I also get the feeling women like this slap, throw blunt objects, and take a swing at guys all the time. Then they get touched in anyway and it's time to call the police.

What I have learned today. According to the Dolphins, Chad is a worse human being than Richie Incognito.

This seems reminiscent of the Tank Johnson situation, though with a lot less physicality.

For those who don't remember, Tank had a history of run-ins with the law, so when he got pulled over for speeding and DUI, his current team (the Bears) took no chances and cut him pretty much on the spot. Then a week later the BAC test came back under the legal limit...

/Moral: If your career has become a high-wire act to maintain, it might be better for you to step off the wire.

The Jets are going to call dibs, fearing that the Tebow won't keep them on the back pages enough.

2012-08-13 09:05:24 PM
I don't know whether or not I want the Lions to pick him up... He'd fit in with the rest of their felons. He'd be a threat when Megatron is covered, better than the current option of dumping to Burlesson or Titus. But he's a walking sideshow.

I feel the same way - she is a world class attention whore (not that means she asked to be abused, if it happened) and something does not feel right about this story...

I predicted no team would sign him after the Patriots released him. Do I get partial credit?

Chad may have been a serious attention whore/jokester, but I don't think he should have been cut until he was actually found guilty of something.

That whole 'innocent until proven' thing.

*shrug

No skin off my teeth either way, it just feels a little hinkey. This is more about Joe Philbin laying down the rules for his clubhouse than Chad's infraction.

Teams are not required to take a PR hit on behalf of an athlete. And you better believe certain segments would be touting the Dolphins as being an apologist for domestic violence if they didn't cut ties with Chad Johnson. It's not fair, but life isn't fair. Chad Johnson isn't the same reciever as he was five years ago so they don't have to give him the benefit of the doubt.

I think there is some suspicion in this case as well that it may not be as alleged by the victim. There is some discussion that the victim has a history of violence against others so perhaps Chad Johnsons story that he was headbutted, but she got injured may be true. That being said, come on Mr. Johnson, you really need to dispose of those reciepts for Condoms when your not using them with your wife (or pay cash for those in a seperate transaction so you can get rid of the record). You know the woman you married was a attention seeking harpy so you should expected the worst if you got caught doing something bad.

If he was any good, he'd still be on the team. They were willing to keep him through camp for the dual reality show exposure, but why bother now.

This. The dork couldn't catch the clap if you put him on a bus to Fayetteville with a thousand bucks in his pocket. If the Patriots' playbook is so complicated, explain how Randy Moss could understand it.

Eh?

I live in south Florida, and have been seeing a bunch of Chad on local sports news. His training camp film actually looked fairly decent, from a 'catcing balls' perspective.

We aren't talking James Jones levels of droppage here. As of late, he was actually securing most of what was thrown his way. Since that apparently includes the use of rubbers, apparently that has been south beach pussy, too.

Anyone who watched the first episode of hard knocks this season could tell you that something was up with 85. Guy was overstepping his bounds the instant he set foot on site. He swears non-stop and is always going for the joke. I remember watching Bengals HK and don't recall 85 having the mouth he did or being disrespectful to coaches he'd never met. But, that was back when he could catch passes.

FTA: If being the squeaky wheel is worth more to you than a few more years at the end of your career, then by all means, squeak away.

Or just be like James Lofton, one of the greatest receivers ever who got to play for 15 years, even if he never won a Super Bowl. He had a few off the field occurrences, but he never split his wife's head open.

Even better, what about Jerry Rice? How many times did he get arrested? None of these assholes can touch his records. Yeah, he got to play with Joe Montana, but lots of great receivers have had great QB's. Rice still is the best.

Spells in Harry Potter are usually some pseudo-Latin gibberish. To be honest, both headlines were pretty shiat.

Agreed, but at least Paulie's headline was relevant to the topic at hand, even though it should have been kept simpler. Personally I would have gone with "Ochocinco 86'd". Still not sure what Harry Potter and latin sounding spells have to do with any of this.

They were married like 4 weeks and now this....hmmmm...
Two reality TV 'stars'. Story from both is that one head-butted the other.
Reality. They got face-to-face and bumped heads so she calls the cops.

I've always been an 85 fan, and despite all the hype he was a stand-up guy. Not buying this story.
OJ Simpson & Jim Brown were/are stand-up guys in the community, but they also had long histories of abuse before they were even married. Nothing like that around Chad.

From the NFL side any good franchise doesn't give a shiat or put up with shiat out of WRs.
QBs make WRs not the other way around. WRs are easily replaced.
Plaxico Burress helped win a SB in Pittsburgh. Traded.
David Tyree made THE catch of Superbowl history. Out of NFL next year.
Marvin Harrison was Manning's go-to guy for years. Retires. Indy back in the SB in 2-3 years.

Meanwhile Cincinnati spends two decades drafting WRs.
Atlanta spends an entire draft last year to get Jones only to fail in the playoffs for the same reasons...AGAIN.
Larry Fitzgerald makes Kevin Kolb/John Skelton greatest QB tandem in history after Kurt Warner retires.
