So, you need to be a fast talking propaganda machine without a solid, well thought out plan to get us out of the financial mess we are in. Got it.

well 0bama is exciting and we have 8.3% unemployment (not including all those who quit looking), high gas prices and a weak economy.

We are voting for a President to fix the economy, not be our next American Idol.

Yes. His positions don't change daily.

Maybe that's the angle...he's there to make Romney seem dynamic.

Watched a video of some old man being wrestled to the ground while yelling about the fifty years he'd paid into the social security system. Ryan's "I hope he took his blood pressure meds" quip got quite a few laughs. The crowd didn't seem the least bit bored.

Gets what? That the American electorate is so daft that anyone with a certain skin tone or ethnic background or who isn't boring is a better candidate than one who is: male, Caucasian and someone who doesn't have a clue who the father of Snooki's baby is, or for that matter, who Snooki is?

I'm pretty sure President Obama was too busy watching Osama get killed to tune in to Jersey Shore.

It's difficult to glean who exactly birthed the anti-BWG trope, but my guess would be a self-loathing BWG.

John McCain and the Republicans in 2008. Remember? They needed a splash to counter the black guy. So, they pulled an unprepared woman off of the back of an ox to give her the VP job and they stuck Michael Steele on every Sunday talk show that they could find to show us all that their racism is in our imaginations. REPUBLICANS were the people against the BWG. But, I guess it's time to reverse course and suggest that it was all a Democratic idea to promote "diversity".

Thanks for the link. Wow, that's terrible. And here's the difference between the campaigns: Ryan jokes about the guy that's upset about his policies and makes light him getting taken down like that. I was really impressed when Obama talked about the selection of Ryan yesterday. He stopped any booing in the audience and basically said "Ryan is a great guy, but I have a fundamental disagreement with his policies." That's how this whole thing should be handled.

what matters is the level of employment and the wages.

0bama is too busy playing golf, campaigning and taking vacations to meet with HIS jobs council. It has been over 6 months. he just doesn't care.

Romney has wanted to keep the conversation - away from divisive social issues and on jobs.

Considering the GOP's stampede to legislate social issues [women's health, abortions, contraception, DADT, making English America's official language, to name but a few] their war against the Affordable Care Act, their obvious hard on for cutting social programs to the bone along with their blocking every major jobs bill, I call shenanigans.

Who said Ryan was boring? After hearing the guy speak, "boring" does not come to mind.

I would have guessed that Romney would have gone with Portman for the bump in Ohio - but the problem with Portman is that he was Bush's budget guru. The last thing that Romney needs is to have a VP that is associated with the budgets of the Bush Administration. Yes, Portman might have made a difference in Ohio, but he doesn't bring much to the table.

Ryan has won consistently in a Democratic-leaning district. He's young, he's incredibly well-spoken, and Romney works well with him.

Yes, the Ryan pick is similar to the Palin pick in that it excites the GOP base - but that's where the simularities end. Palin was (and I'll be really charitable here), not a great intellect and not someone with a real interest in policy. Paul Ryan is the exact opposite of that - he's someone who has already gone toe-to-toe with the President on policy and shown he can command the discussion.

I don't exactly know what point you're trying to make here. It's rather easy to be a public speaker, but it's a lot harder when you're in the spotlight with all of America watching, and everything you want to see happen is either insane or a pipe dream. What's he going to do when people start to call him out through the plethora of financial experts stating his budget plan is an outright fallacy?

Same thing Romney does when asked about his plan to cut %20 in taxes across the board with no way to pick up the slack. They'll avoid the questions... until the debates, then they'll try to deflect, and potentially be called out. The point is, if the podium you're running on is nothing but out-of-context quotes and financial solutions no economic expert agrees with, it doesn't matter how well you TALK.

2012-08-13 03:31:46 PM
Boring is a relative term, out of all the people Romney had the option of picking Ryan is one of the least boring. As you can see by how hard the republican shills and the republican shills pretending to be independents are shilling for him, he excites them. Based on the narrative this Ryan guy is the best thing ever. Romney needed that excitement from the base so they can go knock on doors and get out the derp and suppress the vote.
