So they're saying they value their relationship with Iran over their relationship with the West?

Yeah, if they're gonna go there, t*ck em.

FTFA: MOSCOW (Reuters) - Russia sharply criticized new U.S. sanctions against Iran on Monday, saying the measures to punish banks, insurance companies and shippers that help Iran sell its oil would harm Moscow's ties with Washington if Russian firms are affected.

So, they don't give a shiat about Iran. They only give a shiat if our sanctions affect Russian banks, inscos, etc. Do you think the US would react any differently if Russia enforced embargos in, say, Iraq or Saudi Arabia that had a chance of harming US businesses?

Well, obviously, the US is far more interested in promoting liberty and frahahahahaha sorry, I couldn't even keep that up for one sentence.

Russia is positioning itself as the supporter of Shia regimes, while the US is supporting Sunni regimes and rebellions. If and when the US goes into Iran, Russia could very well go into Syria to protect the Assad government, or at the very least to protect its interests in the Port of Tartus. This situation could go very wrong very quickly.

Right....

I'm sure Russia will really feel the pinch if their oil garners them a lot more cold, hard cash on the open market because Iran cannot sell theirs.

Transparent diplomatic move is transparent.

Hmm I had figured that the market would absorb any sanctions having to do with oil trading and resources, but if it goes right back to the Russian banks I guess that would put a twist in the situation. A little bit of Cold War lite on the economic side of things with two large parties posturing over a largely irrelevant third party.

Don't china and Russia always end up vetoing any UN sanctions placed on these so called "evil" countries because they know they are guilty of the exact same crimes and want to protect their allies? So screw em.

Dear Iran:

Weary of sanctions? Tired of the US kowtowing to Israel's relentless attempts to destroy your country?

LET THE FREE MARKET DECIDE!

Offer oil at $25.00 per barrel to ANYONE who wants to buy. Okay, make it $20.00. for immediate delivery.

Encourage Russia to join you on this Pre-Israeli-Attack fire sale.

Let's see how the political landscape rearranges itself.

It's like when you're in a bar with a bunch of your friends, and that one guy that hangs out with you that nobody likes starts problems with a bunch of other guys. Well, you can't leave the guy hanging-you may not even like him, but you have to stick up for him, since even if he smells funny and always says the wrong thing at the wrong time, he's still one of your crew. Then he starts shiat with some random guy, and you realize that the other guy is the same kind of idiot no one likes, except part of another crew, and they have to stick up for their smelly trash talking idiot too. So you make eye contact with leader of the other group, both of you kind of shrug with that 'what the hell, nothing personal' look and commence to throwing down.

International politics is pretty much the same thing, only with less pool cues, broken beer bottles and getting stuck in the drunk tank with the guys you were just fighting. Also, nukes and oil or something.

This insight into geopolitics brought to you by Budweiser (tm), the King of Beers

I am going to assume you are talking about the Iran hostage situation from 1979 - 80 or so.

your sentence could be easily written in reference to the US:

Saying we value democracy so we led a CIA coupe to overthrow their democratically elected government and installed a puppet regime that was friendly to western oil interests.

And add this:
And since we value democracy so much, we decided to circumvent the constitution, completely ignore congressional directives, sell weapons to the very Iranians (the scary Islamists) so that we could then fund another illegal war in South America to again help install a pro-western / anti-democratic leader

USA USA USA USA USA!!!

but but but those scary evil Iranians want to hurt poor little itty bitty Israel and don't kow tow to US pressures.

Nevermind that we used that same embassy to stage an overthrow of the closest thing to a secular representative government that Iran's ever had, and probably ever will have.

I'm against the Iranian government and their actions, but what they did was not as unprovoked as a lot of people seem to assume.

Those in Washington should take into account that our bilateral relations will suffer seriously if Russian operators ... come under the effects of the American restrictions," the ministry said.

Relations between Moscow and Washington... have been strained by disputes over Syria and President Vladimir Putin's accusation of U.S. meddling in Russian politics.

But yea, Obama is totally secretly plotting with them to destroy America if he wins a 2nd term. Isn't that right?

So you'll just dismiss the second largest proven supply of oil because it needs to be processed? We don't seem to be having much trouble processing it and selling it to the US.

It is all over the Israeli press that Iran must be attacked before the US presidential elections. They will do it if they can get away with it. I don't think they fear Iran as much as they fear a second term Obama. With nothing to lose, he might actually do something to put an end to the slow, grinding genocide of the Palestinian people.
