More like ginger ale. It's an aquired taste. One I've never aquired.

It's actually Ale-8-one.

And it's kinda like ginger ale with some other stuff. It's OK but not really anything special.

What's this? A ginger version of Moxie?

It tastes like crap, is what it is. Imagine something halfway between flat beer and expired ginger ale.

Ale 8 One

More bite than ginger ale and plenty of caffeine. I miss it.

My nostalgia can easily be assuaged by a double Makers rocks.

Same here.

A lot of people who do acquire the taste for it seem to get weirdly addicted, tho.

You're telling me. I hated the stuff when I first tried it. Now I go through withdraw if I haven't had it in a long while.

Long before Red Bull, AMP or 5hr Energy, there was Ale-8-One ("A Late One"). Stuff helped many a college student get through finals...

Had a friend who lived up in Kentucky that made me drink one.

I said had a friend...

I have the same affinity for ale 8-1 as I do Ski brand soda. As in I take a trip to kentucky once in a while to stock up. run out after a few months, wait until the craving hits, and do it over again.

The stuff is delicious - it's just about the only soft drink I ever buy anymore.

And it's great with bourbon (as long as it isn't too sweet of a bourbon)

You...mix bourbon? And not just mix it, but mix it with that crap? Someone should toss you off a bridge.

It's not bad, but not great. Goes decent with bourbon. It's watered down ginger ale.

Only occasionally, and only with cheap bourbon. I'd just as soon drink it neat, but that's not for everyone.

But a lot of people like bourbon+coke and whatnot.

Ale 8 is made to mix with bourbon...fantastic.
