Zero military experience between the two of them? Better make the announcement on a battleship!

"My veins run with cheese, bratwurst, and a little Spotted Cow, Leinie's and some Miller," he said, referring to two foods and three beers closely linked to Wisconsin.

Not to be crude, but this seems like a strange thing to say for a guy who lost the last 3 paternal generations to cardiac problems in their 50s.

A decommissioned battleship no less, an icon, a relic of war, another facade in the GOP's "tough-on-terror" illusion. A perfectly poignant prop.

Just wait until most of the old white folks in attendance realize that Ryan wants to turn their Medicare guarantee (that they pay for with each pay check) into an un-indexed voucher that will leave them short when they get sick.

In typical republican fashion they want to change the rules after they have benefited from the current setup. The geezers in attendance will still get the social services but the rest of us will get a voucher for 1/10th the cost of those same services.

I'm looking forward to asking private insurers what I can get for my ever-diminishing voucher when I'm in my twilight years and need health care the most.

Neither Obama nor Biden have military experience either. Some news source was saying that this might be the first time in history that both major party tickets have no military experience .

My mother (she's 64) came over on Saturday and she said that Romney locked up the women's vote with Ryan as VP because he's so good looking. Then I told her about his stance on abortion and medicare and she said "Why the hell would Romney pick him?".

Who knows, maybe the good looks will work on people that don't have someone to inform them. In my family we all vote early and we set up one evening where we sit at the table and do our ballot together.

Except he's not good looking. He looks like that part in Shallow Hal when Gwyneth's male friends are seen for the first time by Jack Black after he gets his "inner beauty" blinders taken off.

He's got the makings of an attractive man, deep blue eyes, strong chin, good hair etc. but they're all out of proportion and his eyes are dead. Seriously, he smiles but it doesn't register in eyes.

I realize that I, and probably my tastes, do not reflect the average middle American woman's tastes, but Ryan is really considered good looking by a lot of people?

He kind of looks like Steve Carrell mated with an ostrich of questionable pedigree.

My dad was freaking out until I reminded him that:
1. Paul Ryan doesn't get anyone on board with Romney who wasn't already. Hardcore conservatives might be more enthused to vote, similar to the number of disaffected lefties who may have been tempted to stay at home until union-killer Paul Ryan was hitched to the wagon.
b. He's a Rep from a non-swing state. 2 factors working against Romney's election chances. Reps don't have a lot of juice outside their home districts, and the fact that Wisconsin isn't really in play - certainly in comparison to FL (more on that in a sec), VA, OH or PA - doesn't pick up any states for Romney.
III. Paul Ryan's plan is hated by 2/3 of the over-55 crowd. The people already enrolled in Medicare and those who wouldn't be affected by the Ryan Catastrophe poll against the plan by 2-to-1 margins. In a swing state with lots of old people - like Florida - this is likely to move the needle firmly into Obama territory.
- The entire campaign can now be a rehash of Wisconsin's labor fight from 2 years ago, only on the national stage where labor is looked at far more favorably. I don't see union-killing as a solid White-House-or-bust strategy.

Also, the nuns hate him - but we all knew the Catholic rank-and-file cares more about charity and social justice than they do about abortions and gays.

Taken from the comment section of Business Week:
naksuthin, Today 01:46 AM

The Ryan choice is a gamechanger for Conservatives!!!
Ryan is one of the few who have
had the courage to challenge Big socialist government programs like
Social Security and Medicare.Politicians have been deathly afraid to
challenge senior citizens on Social Security and Medicare because they
are such a powerful voting block

But Senior Citizens have been feeding at the government trough for too long. It's time Seniors learned that nothing is "Free" and that WELFARE FOR THE ELDERLY is no different from welfare for the poor.

American seniors are just going to have to learn to save their money and rely on themselves in their old age. NO MORE GOVERNMENT HANDOUTS FOR SENIORS OR WELFARE RECIPIENTSIt's time to end the 3 biggest socialist programs in the federal government....WELFARE, MEDICARE and SOCIAL SECURITY.

And the Romney/Ryan team is the ones to do it.

Apparently 70,000 dollar tax write-offs for show horses isn't welfare. Therapy.
