Olympics? What Olympics? Why I do not even own a television and furthermore comma

I didn't watch the Olympics, I watched a competitive jam band session on public access TV. You've probably never heard of any of the bands.

So, this type of talk was treason when Bush was president, it still is, right? I mean the Right isn't made up of hypocrites, I'm sure, so these assholes will be taken to task for daring to criticize the current President, right?

Right?

there their theyre: That is kind of misleading though since the Eu has 30ish countries while the USA is 1 country. meaning that in any single sport the EU could occupy 30 entries while the USA only gets one (assuming of course every country gets one spot). Would be more accurate if it included the number of athletes the EU nations sent then did total number of medals per athlete.

You definitely get more than 1 entry. The other night, the Women's beach volleyball was US team vs. US team.

it wouldn't embarrass me. i could not care less about the Olympics. just a bunch of Nationalists waving flags and praying that their boy will get the Wheaties endorsement and retire at age 28 with a bundle of money.
Gold Medal??
a nice conversation piece, i'm sure, but the advertising dollars is what the Olympics is all about. the Gold Medal is just a tool to get that ad contract.

Yeah, the synchronized swimming medalists are just in it for the juicy endorsement deals. I'm sure their phone is ringing off the hook.

even to get the chance to be in the Olympics looks great on a resume, even if you didn't make the cut. and for the lucky ones, they/their families have enough dough to allow them to train full time without money being an issue. they don't have to foot the bill. training at that level costs money.

otherwise, they'd have to get a job

but you already knew that.

Probably because you jumped the gun? As an Independent, I support policies on both sides of the playing board, although with the GOP being the asshole laden Herpty-Derp Circus that they currently are, I usually lean more Left as of late...

hey, i'm not saying anyone shouldn't be entertained by the Olympics. just don't fall into the illusion that its about competition, sport, and spreading good will around the world.

its about the dollars and the prestige of waving your dick, i mean, flag around on the world stage.

its about politics and wheaties endorsements. its a way for the Owners to wave their cocks and let the world know just how awesome they are with the teams/sports stars they own.

and the lucky few who win gold get to retire in their twenties. the rest go back to work and enjoy the memories.

the owners, of course, go back to being owners.

My secret shame. I can't say this around the office or I'll get a worse reputation than I already have, but the temptation is enormous. It seems to me to be halfway between a corporate wankgasm and Disney spectacular.

Wonder how many people would watch/attend if the nationalities of the athletes was never mentioned.

There's nothing in sports that quite compares to going head-to-head against another country's athletes in Olympic competition. It's us against them - America versus the world. Competition has always played a big part of what makes the United States of America the greatest and most powerful country in the world.

Unfortunately, the current President of the United States is pushing a socialist agenda with no room for true competition. In fact, you could say that president Obama has waged a war on competition. Share the wealth, equality for all, and you didn't build that are President Obama's war cries.

But unlike the Olympic flame that is put out at the conclusion of the games, America's competitive fire will never go out!"

You're welcome.

Isnt it socialism that we spend a lot of govt money kn sports, PUBLI school sports, sports training, training facilities and olympic training facilities.

no. its only socialism when it helps citizens/the nation out. its good business when it goes to companies and their owners.

I don't know. I think you screwed the pooch on me. The only times I have ever been accused of being a conservative is when I point out the DERP that does occasionally come from the left. Doesn't happen very often.

Like I said, it doesn't happen very often. I can't think of a major example. A minor one was the Romney Sheik/Sikh thing. Some folks in that thread were "LOL Romney is teh dumbz!" when really it was a big 'ol "meh". However, there was a large contingent in that thread on the "meh" side, so the derp was at a minimum.

Also, epee is dumb. I'm sure it involves skill and reflexes far beyond what I'd comprehend, but it looks very silly. Saber was much more fun to watch.

Well, unlike the GOP, Olympic athletes work their hardest to be number one. As opposed to simply SAYING they're number one, folding their arms triumphantly before sitting on their fat asses, turning on Springer, and stuffing their faces with Twinkies.

2012-08-13 06:20:41 PM

JerseyTim: The fact that the United States dominated the Olympics goes to show just how correct President Obama was when he talked about the the need for a strong infrastructure provided by a stable government in what Republicans have called his "You didn't build that" speech. The United States Olympic Committee provides the foundation which allows our athletes to train their hardest and give it their maximum personal effort to win gold.

The United States led all nations with 104 medals, including 46 golds. That's eight more golds and 16 overall than second-place China. Compare that to India, the second most populous nation on Earth with 1.2 billion people. The Indian Olympic Association doesn't build the same strong foundation that the USOC does. They sent 83 competitors to the games. What did they win? Six medals. Zero gold, two silver, four bronze.

Romney said the same thing. And they were both correct. Which makes it that much more stunning that Obama is getting vilified for saying the exact same correct thing that Romney said.

kronicfeld: Moosecakes: This is retarded. The us and every other country can only send one basketball team, or one gymnastics team. Comparing that to 20 teams combined is farking stupid. If each US state sent a team you can bet the US would have almost every medal there is.

How did the U.S. play itself in the beach volleyball final?

There are a few exceptions, and I really didn't feel like enumerating every single one. "5 gymnastics contestants, with up to 2 qualifying. Two beach volleyball teams. One basketball team or soccer team. Three contestants in this. Three in that." Ugh. You understood my point, don't get into semantics. Each nation can only send so many athletes, and so comparing the US to the EU is stupid.
