So, if one of those people's wives gets cancer and dies, is it Steve Jobs' fault?

I'm totally shocked that Google appears to have bought the company for their patents and not their really awesome smart employees who are skilled in the art of churning out mediocre mobile phones.

You mean Moto's india development factory?

Are you really surprised at this? Google bought Motorola Mobility a year ago and their biggest hardware partner is still Samsung. They never wanted to keep it in the first place.

Hmm...

Buy valuable patents.

Eliminate competition.

Eliminate 4000 tax paying jobs, turn them into unemployment sucking parasites.

Randian wet dream.

Good, the Motorola people that took over the other half of our building are twats. Good riddance to (hopefully) them. Like the world needs another Razr phone (and yes, I still carry a Razr phone)

OK, that was funny.

It seems like Google mostly wants Motorola's patent portfolio and a couple of design teams for key markets (since they're cutting only in specific countries). Google likely, and correctly, figures that if they actually need something built they can contract it out to HTC, Samsung, or someone like Foxconn. All they need are the design teams who can give the factory the design.

Two-thirds of the reductions will be outside the U.S.

I'm no business exec, but wouldn't it be more efficient to just work the Chinese labors to death instead of firing them?

Don't be ridiculous. It'll be Larry Page's fault.

I see what submitter did, there.

At least the evil are mobile; they can go somewhere else.

WTF Indeed: reductions will be outside the U.S.

I'm no business ex

Google didn't buy Motorola for their labor abilities. Beside you contract with Chinese factories, not own them.

Also, it sounds like many of those getting the axe are NOT from the "Mobile" side of the house, they're from "Home" (cable modems, cable boxes, etc.)
