Okay, so sirens are blaring. They're obviously in a hurry to get some where quick. Then this genius gets in the way and they hit her. And then everyone just stops to apparently exchange insurance info.

Meanwhile, someone's house is burning to the ground.

I'm confused.

Yeah, that looks like as much of a truck driver fark up as anything. Where they going to go that fast through an intersection with traffic going the other way?

ThatGuyGreg: Where they going to go that fast through an intersection with traffic going the other way?

It wasn't an intersection. It was pedestrian crosswalk.

Sorry, but that one was entirely the civilian's fault. She hauled out in front of a fire truck and slammed on her brakes for a crosswalk (when the pedestrian was at the median). She should not have raced to be in front of the emergency vehicle to begin with.

It was an accident, they are obligated to stop and render assistance. I'm sure another truck was sent out to the initial emergency once they called it in to the station.

The strange part was that none of the firemen bother to check to see if she is uninjured and she is plainly holding her neck/head and that appeared to be a pretty mighty hit on her car, which was surprisingly undamaged....

The moron who decided to use the ped crossing despite the fire truck hauling ass down the one lane also deserves some blame here.

if you're passing an emergency vehicle with sirens on that quickly then you're probably going at least 30 over

2012-08-13 12:49:39 PM
It is amazing how many car drivers have the 'big truck is slow, so must pass' mentality.

/Flashing lights on the truck must mean it is really slow.

//Saw one where two ambulances(5 seconds apart) were going to a scene. one made it through the intersection and the second one had to stop for the 'accident' of a vehicle being rear ended, on a green light, due to the cross traffic vehicle waiting for the second ambulance to come through.
//Green light means to ignore the stopped car, right?

As much as I complain about traffic and shiatty drivers here in MA, I always take solace in the fact that everywhere else in the world is infinitely worse.

There's a whole bunch of stupid going on there, and none of it was from the first responders.

I like how he just walks the fark on by, like he wasn't involved, leaving the driver who just got rear-ended to fend for herself. This, AFTER he waved to the goddamn firetruck for letting him continue crossing the street.

If you honestly think she had an 'owie' in her neck, instead of making it look good for insurance/lawsuit purposes then I've got a bridge I'd like to show you, you can buy it real cheap...

And they did. You can tell the first guy out of the truck goes to ask her if she is o.k.

These guys were firemen, probably not paramedics. That was all they were qualified to do.

In MA the mentality is to keep the traffic moving even if that means driving in the breakdown lane or driving on someones lawn to go around someone taking a left. That causes me annoyance when I drive in other places and everyone in front of me stops to wait for the guy taking a left, I'm like "WTF!! that sidewalk doesn't even have a sharp curb! get on it and go around this guy!!"

Oh you're right, sorry. Everyone in North America always uses the term "overtake" instead of "pass".

It's fine with me, I just couldn't tell what you were complaining about. I guess it didn't occur to me that anyone could be such a whiny biatch that they would complain about a correctly, but not frequently, used word in a Fark headline.

Out of curiosity, which country's nomenclature should Fark limit itself to in headlines? Or, better yet and in an effort to continue making sense to people outside the US, maybe all headlines involving a non-American term would include something like "...so then she got in the lift (that's elevator for you Yanks) and couldn't find the button for the thirteenth floor!".

Even better than that though, actually would a request form you could fill out and submit any time you want to have an opinion on something, so I can tell you how you feel about it.

The chick never changed lanes or did anything outrageous. No, she didn't get out of his way at the pedestrian crossing, but there was no good solution to that one. And even when she stopped, the truck was still in the other lane. The dude driving the fire truck was absolutely 100% responsible for this accident.

There's a very good solution: Don't farking try to pass or even keep pace with an emergency vehicle with its lights & siren going.

What ever happened to "Sirens an lights, move to the right (left for you Brits)" even for on coming traffic.

The car in the left lane should have moved over before that dumb broad ever got there.

Umm.. I vote that overtake was used correctly in the headline. I'm not sure you know this, but sometimes in English there is more than one word you can use to make your point.

personally I was waiting for the police to come in and put a few rounds in her head, but then I realized this WASN'T in the US, so then I wondered why the firefighters just didn't punch her lights... oh yeah.. sorry.. NOT USA again.. oh well.. nothing to see here..

Yeah, it's too bad they don't make any kind of distinct sound that might be heard at any distance. Someone should come up with something like that. Maybe some kind of compelling wailing sound, like the Sirens in the Odyssey.

i did that one time, passed a car turning left by using the breakdown lane, didn't realize there was a cop 2 cars behind me. He whipped up behind me and gave me a ticket for "improper passing". I'm reluctant to do it again unless I'm sure there's no bacon around.

2012-08-13 09:54:43 PM
Fire trucks are usually the only emergency vehicles that are really allowed to drive through red lights or intersections without at least slowing down. Most other vehicles are able to slow down and speed back up quickly. Not so much for a large truck filled with water.

Granted the guy in the left lane should have gotten out of the way people tend to freeze up or do stupid moves when something comes up on them with lights and sirens going. The lady should never have passed the truck though. Give emergency vehicles room to move. From the look of it they were expecting her to drive on instead of stopping for no real reason at the crosswalk. Then she stopped quickly and they had already committed to following her through.

I think everybody driving shares some blame, but most of it lies on the lady for blocking the truck in.

Spoken like someone that has never driven a large truck.

Tip: You can see over much traffic.

2012-08-13 10:26:09 PM
I'd pay good money for a translation of what the driver was shouting when she stopped (I can guess though)

And yeah, I'd say the guy standing in the crosswalk deserves a share of the blame.
