Well, there were these villains who did everything in their power to destroy America. They were called Republicans.

clinton survived a coup attempt by the GOP. i think the american people (well, the non teahadist american people, which is about 65 percent) rallied behind him after that.

plus - despite the lewinsky affair, the clinton presidency was marked by 8 years of un precedented peace and prosperity. what's not to love about that?

Bill Clinton was popular even when the Republicans were dragging him through the Monica Lewinsky scandal. Maybe not popular *with you.* But he had a certain hillbilly charm about him and during his two terms the economy expanded rapidly, we solved the deficit, and we didn't commit ourselves to any intractable ground wars.

The interesting thing is that I actually kinda like W now that he is out of office and can't do any actual harm. I still think his presidency was an unmitigated disaster.

Less welfare and more workfare?

Sure I'll take another 4 years of Clinton.

It's a shame Obama is trying to undue Clintons legacy, and Clinton had to lie to Congress.

The country may miss Clinton - i don't (not that he isn't still around, and prominently).
To me, he's another Reagan - a lot of undesirable qualities coated in a candy frosting of smarmy, seductive charm and charisma so thick you can't taste the actual stuff you're eating.
And he did have the good fortune to be POTUS during the Dot.com Boom, and didn't do anything to f**k it up, so that's to his credit. And when you compare that to a G.W. Bush, it looks pretty good.
To sum up - I don't really think much of Clinton, but he didn't really screw up (except his own political and personal life), and the country did OK while he was in office.

It's a shame Congress had to put Clinton in a position to lie to them. Whether or not he got a BJ from an intern was between him, Monica and Hillary.

The Republicans, like now, were just so DESPERATE to regain power that they were throwing everything they could to try and make something stick. And, like now, it didn't work.

Good times.

I used to think Bush Sr was a moron but now after his son's Presidency, I have a new found respect for him. Just like I couldn't farking stand Hillary until Palin came along. Now I wouldn't have minded as much if she were elected. These recent Republicans really put things into perspective.

The Lewinsky scandal served its purpose, it got Clinton's administration off of Israel's back and allowed them to grab a shiatload of land while everybody was focusing on BJ-Gate. Just look up Lewinsky's dad, look up the frog faced-operative who turned it over to the press. Look at US-Israeli issues at the time it started. Falwell even commented on it - it was a classic blackbag op.

The fall it caused?

First, the economy went down the shiatter during Clinton's watch:

www.investors.com

See how the bubble peaked during the Clinton administration? If Clinton gets credit for "prosperity" during his administration, he *HAS* to get blamed for the downside also. Personally, I'd don't think he's responsible for either: The president has very little power to affect the economy, and the economic boom that happened during the Clinton administration (and the subsequent bust) were due not to his guiding hand, but the explosion of Internet commerce, the so-called "Dot-Com bubble".

As for the peace? Well, we were bombing brown people back then also. Or did you forget? And the leaders of the 9/11 attacks were already in the United States, and planning was in its final stages, when Dumbya took office. The Clinton Administration was as much at fault for that as the Bush administration, especially when you consider that the fledgling Bush administration had to deal with a serious incident with China just a couple months after taking office.

So I just saw this clip of a Ryan townhall that took place last September, and went from thinking Ryan has bad ideas to Ryan is an arrogant prick operating like a thug.

He is clearly not interested in what his constituents have to say, In the first part of the video, several of the folks who paid $15 to get in ask him why he's not talking about jobs.

"We have a big jobs crisis."

"What are you doing to create jobs, congressman?"

"People are hurting."

"But, he hasn't said anything about jobs."

Around the 1:09 mark, a 71 year old man objects when Ryan refers to Social Security as "entitlements."

"Hey [garbled] I paid into that for 50 years!"

Someone off camera: "Get him outta here."

According to this link; Ryan then jokes, "I hope he's taken his blood-pressure medication", and the room laughs with him. (Not on video).

Enter the police and arrests ensue!

From his SUV, Ryan waves to the objectors in the back of police cars.

Yeah - the good ol' days: The 1998 bombing of Iraq, Afghanistan and Sudan, the US bombing of the Al-Shifa pharmaceutical factory that caused tens of thousands of Sudanese civilians to die throughout Sudan because the supply of necessary drugs was cut off, the rape (alleged) of Juanita Broaddrick and the Elian Gonzalez affair.
