Where exactly would you put those asterisks Subby?

Cut the deficit in half? No. Instead he passes the most bloated welfare program in U.S. history.

Close Gitmo? So, why didn't he do it?

Televise Obamacare debate? He couldn't get away from that turd fast enough.

You know, this place could be immeasurably improved by banning shiatbots like BillCo. Their only purpose is to derail any criticism of the Republican party. It's fairly clear that they must be getting paid to do it, why else would they offer no opinions but talking points and never been seen outside of their normal single post.

...that shaves $400-$600 bn out of Medicare. ...which is funny, since they're jumping on Ryan for wanting to pillage Medicare.

Googling "Obamacare Medicare" is enlightening. It's always amusing to see how different sides of the argument spin it.

Obama's mistake wasn't in failing to meet these promises. It was in making so many promises that were so ambitious and so contrary to what Congress would allow, and he should have known that going in. It's probably unfair to hold them all against him, but it's too easy to just give him a pass.

Right, it's his fault the GOP filibustered a higher number of bills than any time in American history.

Obama's was a Senator. And before that a state representative. His background included collegiality, and the idea that people could work together to solve problems. And I think he expected to be able to get Republicans to compromise at the very least. I don't think he realized it's a whole different ballgame in the Executive, or that he'd have Republicans in the legislature actively working to make him a "1-term president." It took them about 2-2.5 years to figure it out, and the past year or so they've been better politically at countering their opposition. I just think it took them off guard at first so a lot of Obama's initiatives were derailed.

Dude, I know you're just trolling but as long as Dubya still exists in our space-time continuum, it will be very hard for any President to take the "Worst. Ever" title. And claiming that Obama has taken that title, mostly for not being able to un-fark everything Dubya has spent 8 years farking up is beyond douchebag hyperbole.

Actually, Obama did come up with a plan to close Guantanamo. The GOP started a massive campaign to convince people that they were going to be given immigrant visas and released here or something.

Yup. Your link says it was bipartisan. It *does* make little sense to close down one detention center with NO PLANS on what to do with all those people.

All that having been said, I never knew that the Dems *also* blocked the Gitmo shutdown in both the Senate *and* the House. It may be that namatad also didn't know this. I guess it depends on where you get your news from.

If you're talking about the ACA aka Obamacare, it's because the Democrats had a majority in the House and a *supermajority* (or at least 1 independent caucusing with the Democrats) in the Senate. I remember this was probably the biggest reason why tea party candidates got such traction in 2010. A lot of people felt like the ACA was rammed down our throats, myself included. The only major part of the ACA I didn't like was the national mandate; but I now understand that Obamacare won't work without it.

Still could've pieced something BETTER together, but it's (hopefully) better than what we had. The funny thing about economics and economic policy is there's really no way to know if it will work until it either does or doesn't.

2012-08-13 10:17:39 AM
While the republicans control the house, it's up to them to make the Obama presidency look as bad as possible and that's by shooting down any decent bill that gets put on their desks. Think about it... if they pass something that's good for the country, people will look back as it being part of the Obama (Democratic) administration. They can't have any of that.

2012-08-13 10:18:14 AM
I'm curious how many more of the GOP promises have come true... I mean, it can't be that hard to get us out of this dark period of economic gloom, to get some white-collar jobs for hard working honest folk, right?

Obameter: Tracking Obama's Campaign Promises

Promise Kept 190 (37%)
Compromise 71 (14%)
Promise Broken 81 (16%)
Stalled 50 (10%)
In the Works 114 (22%)
Not yet rated 2 (0%)

And yet he still has a damn good record. Link

Nearly 51% of his promises are fulfilled in some capacity.
