I have given NBC the benefit of the doubt, sort of a lot, even.

This? This fails so effing hard, there are not words.

undflickertail: They cut part of the putting out of the flame. There was someone who flew in in a Phoenix costume during the ceremony. Also there is no reason for NBC to leave the last section until after local news.

That someone was Darcey Bussell, one of the greatest ballet dancers of all time (that is still dancing)

SuperNinjaToad: Bungles: Brazil's problem is going to be that hosting an Olympics is 99% organsing committees and project management, which Brasil isn't exactly famous for.

I suspect it may resemble the clusterfark of the Indian-hosted Commonwealth Games last year rather than London or Beijing. Half finished buildings and chaos (even Beijing forgot that people need to eat, so you had to hike an hour into town to find a restaurant).

The problem with Brazil is not so much the Olympics itself but the things that are currently happening right now to the 'poor' residents.. being rounded up and walls built separating the poor and the rich.

Unbeknownst to most westerners, Rio isn;t all thongs, hardbodies, beaches and party.. that is really only a minute aspect of it. Outside of a few city blocks Rio is a very very dangerous city. The cops and the local politicians are also extremely corrupt.

So, it's like New Orleans.

OK. Here's the plan.

1. We start a communal fund with the intent to purchase the exclusive broadcast rights to whichever Olympic games are next to be sold.

2. We outbid NBC.

3/ We award the broadcast rights to the ESPN collection of channels, FOX and their channels, as well as ABC and their channels on the condition that live broadcasts be made available along with live internet coverage and complete, unedited coverage of the Opening and Closing Ceremonies.

4. Any petitions made by NBC should be met with their favorite line of the year: "This is how the free market works. We bought the rights, we have a right to do this."

Okay, I think that's it. I'll find the BBC stream later for the Who (and everything else).

18 months until Sochi! That should give everyone enough time to train up for another marathon NBC bash-fest.

Of course there is. They want to make you watch their next certain-to-fail "comedy".

Forget ESPN, Fox, etc and just do it with PBS.

Oh, I get it. It's just like Children's Hospital. Just instead of having comedy it has animals.

fark you, NBC.

This show sucks. I give it 11 weeks. TOPS.

Im not getting the crappy animal show. They went right to local news.

2012-08-12 11:05:44 PM

geom_00: This is such a crock of shiat. NBC needs to have its agreement with the IOC terminated FOREVER.

Here at least, they cut away to this show, THEN the local news will be on, THEN the whole ceremony starts all over again at midnight??? Nobody is going to see the finale unless they stay up til 3am. Unreal.

2012-08-12 11:05:54 PM
I'm going to bed. I'm not waiting for NBC to think I'm ready to see the ending.

I hear they cut the men's marathon medal ceremony.... you know, the one thing that's been in the closing ceremony since there was a closing ceremony...

...and Kate Bush.

...and Waterloo Sunset.

SO THE TWITTER TELLS ME.

Rio is the least interesting location for me of any Olympics venue in recent history. London, Beijing, Athens (which I had several event tickets for but didn't go,) Barcelona...Rio is the least interesting to me since Atlanta. Even all the recent winter Olympics venues have been places I'd like to go. Rio, bleh.

So this crap is a mash up of house and scrubs with a bunch of animals mixed in for good measure. I revise my earlier statement. I give it 9 episodes before the cancel it.

Oh Uganda! may God uphold thee,
We lay our future in thy hand.
United, free,
For liberty
Together we'll always stand.

Oh Uganda! the land of freedom.
Our love and labour we give,
And with neighbours all
At our country's call
In peace and friendship we'll live.

Oh Uganda! the land that feeds us
By sun and fertile soil grown.
For our own dear land,
We'll always stand,
The Pearl of Africa's Crown.

...don't worry. I spoiled nothing. That's what happened While We Were Away.

FriarReb98: And there, ladies and gentlemen, is the final nail in the DEAR GOD NBC SUCKS coffin. We're going to make you wait an hour, through a horrible comedy with a monkey, and your local news, before showing you the stuff we told you about an hour ago!

OK everyone, head over to NBC's Facebook page and let loose.
