SuperNinjaToad: Mrtraveler01: DamnYankees: WhyteRaven74: Practical_Draconian: Istanbul, Madrid or Tokyo.

Prolly Tokyo.

I disagree. They tend to rotate by region. From 1980 onwards its been:

Europe, North America, Asia, Europe, North America, Oceania, Europe, Asia, Europe, South America

I think North America will get it in 2020. Probably Chicago or New York, maybe Mexico City or Toronto.

They already have their short list for 2020 already.

It's either going to be Tokyo, Istanbul, or Mardid.

My money is on Istanbul to "make a statement" like they're about to do with Rio 2016.

I think Istanbul stands a good chance as well since it will be the 1st Muslim country to ever host the Olympic games. There is however a risk to picking Turkey because while it is a stable country compared to the other Islamic country it's stll shaky compared to Spain or Japan.

There is also a resurgence of Islamic politicals parties there as well which may make the Olympic games kinda sucky if they were to be chosen and one of these parties become the controling government by 2020..

On the other hand, hosting the olympics could be seen as cementing ties to the secular west.

12349876: DamnYankees: FriarReb98: I like the fact that not only did they give the wrong time change (it's 2 hours not 1), but they said that would be a problem.

No, its only 1. Or would daylight savings move it to 2 during the winter?

Daylight savings for us and not them makes it 1 instead of 2.

It's one right now. So in January/February its 2?

phaseolus: DamnYankees: Brazil's national anthem stinks. Sounds like a trifling concerto by Haydn or something.

Only boring.

Good anthems:
South Africa, whose is the best
Canada
The Netherlands

I enjoy the New Zealand anthem before rugby games. Precedes the Haka, which is always epic.

It's 11:37 now in Rio.

So for me in the Midwest, they're 2 hours ahead of me. 1 hour ahead of the center of the world (east coast).

I suspect Rio is rather grateful that London has clearly coordinated and created a firework and LED audience panel accompaniment to this display...

China did everything it could to belittle the London handover.

WhyteRaven74: themeaningoflifeisnot: ut I think London has a legitimate fear of terrorism.

London has had terror attacks before. Didn't make them scared. The last one didn't change anything. Being afraid is what terrorists want. Not being afraid takes away their goal.

Actually that's the sort of outfit street sweepers wear in many countries.

You're reading a lot into my simple observation that GB appears to have done a good job with security.

I met Pele. In the twilight of his playing career, he was signed by the Tampa Bay Rowdies (mainly a stunt like L.A. signing Beckham). The Rowdies came to my junior high school to put on a soccer clinic to try to pump up interest in the sport - a tough road in 1970s Florida.

Same thing with the World Cup. Which is heading to the Middle East in 2022.

The Olympics are probably going to want in on that action.

It would be 3 then because they're on daylight savings time and we're not. They do theirs from mid-October to mid-February. So it would be 2 during those short times when neither in on daylight savings time.

August 5-21, 2016

Same deal with Sydney in 2000 and with the World Cup in 2010. The northern hemisphere is all that matters.
