paj: Greta_VanHouten: I was really disappointed when Bowie didn't appear in person. He should be there.

He hasn't performed since 2006 IIRC, heart surgery.

The rumor is that after the surgery, he gained quite a bit of weight and doesn't want the public attention, so I heard.

/I saw Bowie in 2004 in Austin at The Backyard.
//Most awesome concert ever

DamnYankees: superdude72: make me some tea: They really had to point out it's "gothic"? I couldn't figure that out myself?

I think it's more New Romantic ala Adam Ant in the '80s.

Did they get Duran Duran? Thatd be solid.

There will be no Duran Duran.

2012-08-12 09:29:11 PM
This better get more interesting fast, cuz Breaking Bad starts in half an hour.

2012-08-12 09:29:13 PM

paj: Mrtraveler01: Was BBC and CTV this bad with the coverage?

CTV had five commercial breaks in the first hour, they got better after that during this musical hour.

Did they edit the hell out of this like NBC is doing?

For those of you who were unfortunate to watch on the BBC, you are missing a great Sonic commercial!

Just Shake it Off!

It gets better.

Oh look, Pink Floyd.

The Bestest: ..actually, a cross-border bid might do just that. Has that ever been done before? Closest thing that comes to my mind was when South Korea and Japan jointly hosted the World Cup.

Euro 2012 was in Poland and Ukraine.

IMDWalrus: geom_00: I DO love this commercial with John Clesse

It's grown on me a lot. I don't know why, but it's getting funnier the more I see it.

Oh good, I was worried that I was the only one that felt that way.

Actually the Spanish Aramada after September 1588...

So they are playing a cover of Pink Floyd. Lame.

Where's Oasis? They playing?

Okay, so let's think here, who'd they cut now?

The Bestest: Pontious Pilates: Toronto is putting a bid together for 2024. And I read a Yahoo article recently that says some local politicians in Toronto are considering a joint bid with Niagara Falls/Buffalo, NY. As a native WNYer, i think that would be cool as shiat, for the first international games to be held across the world's longest friendly border. BUT, I can't imagine who among anyone involved would say "You know, Toronto made a good case for themselves in their last two bids, but you know what they're missing that would put them over the top? BUFFALO."

..actually, a cross-border bid might do just that. Has that ever been done before? Closest thing that comes to my mind was when South Korea and Japan jointly hosted the World Cup.

Can you imagine the mess at the border checkpoints with people trying to move back and forth? It would be a logistical and security nightmare.

Earguy: themeaningoflifeisnot: The neat thing about all the hate flowing towards NBC for the way they've f*cked up these Olympics is that it will make absolutely no difference.

"Look at the ratings we got! Send Mary Carillo to Brasil now! Give the team a two-week vacation, then offer them bonuses to do the same thing for Rio!"

I think the true answer is that 95% of American viewers really don't give a damn what NBC does with its coverage. The average schmoe could not give a rat's ass that Kate Bush was cut out. They just swallow whatever broadcast jizz NBC shoots down their throats and say "thank you, may I have another."

2012-08-12 09:30:29 PM
The only way this abomination would vastly improve is if they would shift gears and do a five or ten minute sequence on the U.K. historical tradition of killing people and throwing their bodies in the bog.

It's not a good sign that either people weren't asked to perform their own songs, or those same people refused to perform.

Nope. They didn't hit 'pause' on the tape or anything, just cut back in after the commercials. Aired live.

IOC is big on 'one city per bid,' so I doubt that would work. Hell, I heard they might have a problem with a joint bid from Minneapolis and St. Paul, and I can stand in both of those cities at the same time.

*sigh*

i wish I was near the Canadian border. And now that the Olympics are going back on CBC, it'll be much easier to watch it in the US.

Original Pink Floyd drummer Nick Mason is on the drums and they are performing with bassists Mike Rutherford from Genesis and Richard Jones from indie band The Feeling. Ed Sheeran on vocals.

Only because of the US being involved.

Jebus, those guys piss me off.

But not the money.

OK If that happens, I'll go along with an Olympic bid. That is if I'm still alive then.

Totally ignoring the monopoly effect. Of COURSE you're getting ratings -- it's the only place to watch!

/Yeah, you could watch online -- IF you subscribed to the right cable package...

Same thing with Bowie. He hasn't performed in at least six years.

Not sure why they went with the Pinball Wizard cover, other than to give the Kaiser Chiefs something to do, but that was a pretty solid cover.
