Theyd go full berdache whinebag on the Olympics and all announcers and music choices ever of course.

Prolly Tokyo.

I disagree. They tend to rotate by region. From 1980 onwards its been:

Europe, North America, Asia, Europe, North America, Oceania, Europe, Asia, Europe, South America

I think North America will get it in 2020. Probably Chicago or New York, maybe Mexico City or Toronto.

Chicago was the first to get tossed. No point in letting that happen again. Put it in St. Louis.

St Louis is in the middle of nowhere. TOO EASY.

I live in St. Louis and we DON'T have the infrastructure to pull off an event like this.

That's why I was rooting for Chicago since it's only a 5+ hour drive from me.

And there he is!,

He's not Keith Moon, but their drummer isn't bad.

That was a pretty good cover.

WTF Bowie.

make me some tea: What I'm surprised by is that the narration is minimal, and actually informational but not intrusive. I think NBC got the message.

I've noticed this too.

However, I am STILL sending NBC a VERY strongly worded letter about the overall presentation.

IMDWalrus: I'd look it up online later, but I already know that NBC is going to police the hell out of all of the video sites

The BBC has the opening and closing ceremonies online. And there's not a damn thing NBC can do about it.

DamnYankees: Probably Chicago or New York

The US is going to have a hard time getting the Olympics any time soon owing to some issues the US refuses to address in regards to not just the Olympics but also the Paralympics.

2012-08-12 09:18:01 PM
So...we don't get a full Bowie song?

2012-08-12 09:18:02 PM
I know I should've been expecting this, but my mind is absolutely blown by just how much NBC has cut out of the ceremony. Thank God I'm not beholden to them.

2012-08-12 09:18:05 PM
I was really disappointed when Bowie didn't appear in person. He should be there.

BBC sez - These billboards are of iconic British models including Naomi Campbell, Kate Moss, Lily Donaldson, Stella Tennant, Karen Elson, Lily Cole, Georgia May Jaggar, Jourdan Dunn, David Gandy. The models wear Alexander McQueen, Vivienne Westwood, Christopher Kane, Burberry, Erdem, Victoria Beckham, Jonathan Saunders, Stephen Jones (headwear) and Paul Smith.

Am I going to need anything like Expat Shield to see them? I'm guessing they're region-locked, like most of the BBC's video is?

For all of you ragging on Ryan Seacrest, who among us would have known, without his expert commentary, that John Lennon sung "Imagine," and that the gentleman on stage singing "Freedom" is, in fact, George Michael?

I saw Daltrey live pretty recently. He can still sing the hell out of Pinball Wizard. I'm kind of sad they didn't get him.

I think they just don't have a clue who or what's going on, so they're just keeping their ignorant mouths shut.

12349876: Istanbul, Tokyo, and Madrid are the 3 finalists for 2020. Book it done. USA didn't bid to say fark you to the IOC for not accepting Chicago.

I figured the USOC didn't bid out of resignation that the Tea Party singlehandedly farked up their bid and there was no real way to stop them from farking up a 2020 bid as well, so don't even spend the money bothering.

I can't imagine him saying no if they had asked him, but I also have a hard time believing nobody asked him.

Fashion might just be one of Bowie's worst songs.

2012-08-12 09:20:07 PM

Practical_Draconian: The thing on my mind is where the Olympics go after Rio ...

Istanbul, Madrid or Tokyo.

I'd lean towards Istanbul if its bid is any good. I doubt the IOC would want to give Europe two summer games in eight years (sorry, Madrid), and I seriously doubt they'd want to have consecutive games in about 500 miles apart with South Korea winning the 2018 Winter Games (sorry, Tokyo).

NBC is right. Without Ryan Seacrest's infinite wisdom in the world of pop music, I would be totally lost without them chiming in every 5 minutes.

Greta_VanHouten: I was really disappointed when Bowie didn't appear in person. He should be there.

He may well have declined. It almost seems as if he's unofficially retired from music.

I'm still bummed that Kate Bush didn't perform live.

We didn't get on them enough for cutting the athlete's oaths. So they cut the marathon medal ceremony too.

I wouldn't be surprised if they go off the air with the cauldron still lit.

2012-08-12 09:21:09 PM
The neat thing about all the hate flowing towards NBC for the way they've f*cked up these Olympics is that it will make absolutely no difference. NBC will do exactly what it likes at the next Olympics, too. It'll probably be even more vanilla and pablum packaged.

And there ain't a damn thing anyone can do about it because that's life in the good ol' USA. The ONLY thing that matters is money.
