NBC cut the Marathon medal ceremony and Ugandan anthem? and the volunteer appreciation part?

2012-08-12 09:09:23 PM

Practical_Draconian: We'd be arguing dick sizes in the open.

Now wouldn't that be a hell of a Fark tab

2012-08-12 09:09:29 PM

make me some tea: Holy crap they edited the shiat outta this.

E-Brake: So we watched this live on BBC streaming and it was about 3 hours 15 minutes. NBC is cutting almost an hour out, really? Looks like they've cut some really good stuff out already, am glad we got to see the whole thing. This is heavily edited.

Sadly it doesn't surprise me at all.

I hope that um....a certain song isn't cut out...(NI)

Poor George can't hit those high notes anymore. This sounds like it's a step and a half or two steps down.

WhyteRaven74: Practical_Draconian: Istanbul, Madrid or Tokyo.

Prolly Tokyo.

Istanbul, to make a "statement", much like Rio

I like this more than the dressage semifinals. Not quite up to the excitement of the dressage finals, but it's still early.

I'm starting to regret not finding a way to stream the BBC coverage earlier. :-/

I'd look it up online later, but I already know that NBC is going to police the hell out of all of the video sites. Trying to look for Olympic highlights on YouTube is an exercise in futility.

Unless Istanbul pulls the same guilt trip that Rio did for 2016 and Qatar did for the 2022 World Cup.

"We haven't had an Olympics in the Middle East. Isn't it our turn now?"

But the odds do seem to favor Tokyo, which I would be kinda meh about to be honest. I mean Asia already has the Winter Olympics in 2018 in South Korea. Do we really need another one in Asia?

Maybe this is Madrid's time to shine and not fail for one.

Oh, and there was this one athlete, didn't catch the nation, who brought in a sign saying "THANKS COACH". That was pretty cool.

2012-08-12 09:10:27 PM
Did the US version of the closing ceremonies edit the gay out of George Michael and those scary Hindu drummers?

2012-08-12 09:10:28 PM
So, if George Michael did that Jamaican sprinter's signature move, would the British tabloid headlines say,

wait for it .....

Michael Boltin'?

Gosling: ALSO CUT FROM ATHLETE ENTRANCE:

*Irish guy who stole an identifier flag signifying the presence of a beer vendor
*Canadian human pyramids
*Several African nations dancing pretty gingerly, Ethiopia in particular

Also the French doing backflips and other gymnastic tumbling gyrations that I don't know the proper terminology for.

Seacrest's inane ramblings reminds me of the Grim Reaper scene from Meaning of Life:

Grim Reaper: Shut up! Shut up, you American. You always talk, you Americans, you talk and you talk and say 'Let me tell you something' and 'I just wanna say this.' Well, you're dead now, so shut up.

NBC cut the Marathon medal ceremony and Ugandan anthem? and the volunteer appreciation part?

Oh yes. They did this too. So Bob Costas can save face and not have to suck down his "Of course, Winston Churchill never met Idi Amin" crack when the Ugandan national anthem plays.

I disagree. They tend to rotate by region. From 1980 onwards its been:

Europe, North America, Asia, Europe, North America, Oceania, Europe, Asia, Europe, South America

I think North America will get it in 2020. Probably Chicago or New York, maybe Mexico City or Toronto.

The thing I noticed about the BBC broadcast was that they had some really phenomenal montage-y recaps of the achievements of the Olympics with beautiful stop motion clips and a stirring soundtrack. Did NBC have anything like that in the preshow? 'Cause that was awesome.

Istanbul, Tokyo, and Madrid are the 3 finalists for 2020. Book it done. USA didn't bid to say fark you to the IOC for not accepting Chicago.

They already have their short list for 2020 already.

It's either going to be Tokyo, Istanbul, or Mardid.
