Earguy: FriarReb98: Oh hey look, Chruchill, see, THAT'S why they had to do that whole thing last night!

Yes, we needed an hour of it so for fifteen seconds we wouldn't go, "who is this guy?"

Exactly.

2012-08-12 08:27:59 PM
This is some weird shiat. Paper cars? What the fark.

2012-08-12 08:28:01 PM

geom_00: Hey...Costas is shutting up....do you think NBC listened to the complaints???

No. They're going to fark it up again.

2012-08-12 08:28:04 PM
And for once Harry has to act like a grownup. Also, wondering why he's there, not his brother or his dad if the queen couldn't make it.

IMDWalrus: If NBC messes with my Who and George Michael, there will be bloodshed.

Gonna have to wait 'til just past the Olympic flame snuffing out for the former; no idea if NBC will keep interest until then.

/A certain British comedian also makes a musical appearance

THEY'RE SINGING LET FREEDOM RING WRONG

IMDWalrus: Mrtraveler01: Just to warn you guys, my TV Guide is warning me that NBC is going to run some awful pilot at 9:58 CDT.

So that means they're going to split this in half like they did with Vancouver...sigh.

I'm not seeing that. I'm seeing the closing ceremonies until 10:30EST, then the pilot (seriously, who the fark thought Animal Practice was a good idea?), then local news. I don't think it's being split.

My DVR says the closing ceremoney stops at 10:58 Eastern followed by Animal Practice and local news.

Gosling: DEAR GOD HOW MUCH ARE THEY LOPPING OUT OF THESE SEGMENT

Wasnt there a WHOLE LOT more Stomp??

I saw that there was something after local news. Maybe it's just a rebroadcast of this.

But yeah, even reading the synopsis of Animal Practice makes it sound like a terrible show that won't last long.

TeddyRooseveltsMustache: This is some weird shiat. Paper cars? What the fark.

They're not paper, just wrapped in newsprint and the newsprint has lines from famous British literary works, going back to Beowulf

2012-08-12 08:29:17 PM
They're counting down to something, but we're not going to know what it was...

2012-08-12 08:29:27 PM
Commercial. Drink!

2012-08-12 08:29:50 PM

Gosling: I posted this toward the end of the live thread; since I don't care that My Blog Sucks, I'll provide it another time for the tape-delayed crew.

London 2012: the denouement. A recap of the Games for those who've been asleep the past three weeks.

Or at least, an Olympics recap done my way: with acknowledgement that countries other than the United States and medals other than gold exist.

No mention of the equestrians, including the New Zealander who was riding in his 8th games (I think), nor the 71 year-old-contestant from Japan. You are not as inclusive as you like to think.

2012-08-12 08:29:57 PM
If I recall, they are now cutting the beginning of a long, long concert. The concert will conclude with the Greek national anthem.

They were over two hours into the ceremony before Greece's anthem got played.

It's called MY COUNTRY 'TIS OF THEE.

Honestly.

Gosling: DEAR GOD HOW MUCH ARE THEY LOPPING OUT OF THESE SEGMENTS

THIS IS THE SPORTSCENTER HIGHLIGHT CEREMONY

I streamed the BBC feed earlier and it was about 3hrs with no breaks. Add in 30min for Animal Practice and probably another 30min for commercials that means about a hour needs to be cut, 1/3 of the ceremony.

2012-08-12 08:30:49 PM

Mrtraveler01: But yeah, even reading the synopsis of Animal Practice makes it sound like a terrible show that won't last long.

Pretty much like the rest of their new lineup?

2012-08-12 08:30:50 PM
Shortest commercial break ever. Didn't even have time to get my beer.

2012-08-12 08:30:57 PM
Wow they came from commercial where they left off

2012-08-12 08:31:01 PM

46 gold medals and an SUV on Mars. Your move world

2012-08-12 08:31:19 PM
This is a very confusing ceremony.

2012-08-12 08:31:23 PM
"for whatever reason dressed as batman and robin"

lulz

ONE SECOND from Simulpost!

Pretty weaksauce closing ceremonies so far. Nothing will ever top the Canadagasm in Vancouver two years ago. Giant inflatable beavers, Katherine O'Hara. They had it all, and it was so deliciously cheesy.

2012-08-12 08:31:57 PM
I don't get the lame Batman n robin skit.

2012-08-12 08:32:01 PM

Nope, this isn't the start of the concert.

WhyteRaven74: And for once Harry has to act like a grownup. Also, wondering why he's there, not his brother or his dad if the queen couldn't make it.

Everyone seems to have forgotten Prince Charles entirely. I think even the Queen has no faith in his ability to be King, and would like to somehow bypass him and pass the crown to William. And Prince Charles must be thinking, "goddammit, her mother live to be 102, is mummsie ever going to die so I can wear the crown while I can still hold my head up?"

If it wasn't for Sunday Night Football, Nightly News, Meet the Press, and local news, I would have no reason to watch NBC at all.

EngineerAU: IMDWalrus: seriously, who the fark thought Animal Practice was a good idea?

Or Revolutions. Or The New Normal. Or any of the atrocities they call comedies?
We love comedy? Unless you consider it unintentional like their broadcast of the Olympics.

TeddyRooseveltsMustache: Wow, the first gig for Madness in ages.

Seriously. I think their last concert was on top of the Berlin Wall.

ONE little second from a near-perfect simulpost....

It's from the show Only Fools and Horses

DamnYankees: This is a very confusing ceremony.

Sounds like you need NBC's commentators to explain it to you.

2012-08-12 08:32:39 PM
I would prefer they replay an old recording for this song. This guy can't sing anymore.

Pontious Pilates: Pretty weaksauce closing ceremonies so far. Nothing will ever top the Canadagasm in Vancouver two years ago. Giant inflatable beavers, Katherine O'Hara. They had it all, and it was so deliciously cheesy.

I have been TRYING to find Michael Buble singling Just Another Maple Leaf ever since.

2012-08-12 08:32:57 PM
Wtf am I watching...

2012-08-12 08:33:01 PM
So, personal highlight of Olympics watching?

I think my favorite was the James-Blade Runner exchange of name bibs.

2012-08-12 08:33:03 PM

Hector Felix: No mention of the equestrians, including the New Zealander who was riding in his 8th games (I think), nor the 71 year-old-contestant from Japan. You are not as inclusive as you like to think.

I do remember getting equestrian in there. I know I mentioned Romney's horse, I mentioned the Syrian relative of the al-Assad family that rode, I mentioned the South Korean who got his shiat wrecked in an earlier Fark thread.

I didn't get those two things. I didn't catch either of them in the first place. In any Games, there will be stuff of interest that you go through the Games never being aware of until David Wallechinsky tells you about it four years later.

2012-08-12 08:33:06 PM
UPKILT!

2012-08-12 08:33:07 PM

Actually they tour regularly

Ya, they seriously sound terrible.
