Sometimes I wish I could just live in a box away from idiots. Then I realize I'd much rather just stick them all in the box.

I'll have a decaf mocha soy frappucino, thanks.

Rocket powered? No no, it's got to be slow so you can savor the moment. I would know, I was into steamrolling people before it was popular.

Much the same as my preference for Sailor Jerry rum, I drink coffee that tastes pretty good and gets the job done.

Hence the Keurig donut shop blend. It's not bad, nothing to jump up and down for, but it's gets me going in the morning.

I might occasionally go for a bottle of something better, and every few weeks I find myself at a hipster coffee shop, but I won't make the fancy crap a part of my life.

You have never had the coffee from the machine at my work. I know it's made with real beans cuz you get a small amount of grounds in the finished product. It makes fast food coffee seem like the nectar of the gods in comparison.

You know, I'd take the hipsters and their smug bullshiat if they would make a coffee place in my town. I'm really tired of Caribou, Starbux, Dunkin, and the couple of independent shops that unfortunately don't really know what they are doing and make subpar bullshiat coffee. I don't even think I'm all that picky, certain k-cups taste pretty good to me.

SomethingToDo: McDonald's drip filter

Somehow McDonald's makes a damn good cup of coffee. Always reminded of this during road trips.

So-called Third Wave shops, he says, have one thing in common: an uncompromising devotion to quality. This manifests itself in three areas: beans, equipment and technique.:

Steve Jobs was reincarnated as a barista?

Only if he has other people perfect those things for him.

Nothing worse than coffee in a southern workplace. I will never understand why southerners think watered down Folgers is good.

This is Dennis. He's the owner/operator of Beach Bum Cafe in downtown Honolulu.

He's just a middle aged guy who really loves coffee and decided open a place that makes the best possible coffee available. He offers only locally grown coffees from the various Hawaiian islands and deals directly with several of the award winning farms in Kona and Ka'u.

He's neither a hipster nor a douche. He just makes incredible coffee. And yes, it is incredible.

If you don't think there's a difference between what comes out of your keurig and a really good cup of coffee, it's probably because you've never really had a really good cup of coffee. You may have paid a lot of money for something that was claimed to have been really good coffee, but it wasn't, and you were ripped off.

I can understand the hate and anger at these pretentious twits selling mediocrity at inflated prices, but please don't confuse the hipster douchebags and shysters with people who actually know what they're doing.

I thought the latest coffee hipness was cold brewed coffee? Low acid and high caffiene but costs a lot because of the hours required for the coffee to steep at the low temperature.

The First Wave Revulsion took place in the 1940s, when canned coffee became the rage. The Second Wave Revulsion was the birth of Starbucks in the 1980s.

There's room in this world for both the bottomless diner cup of diesel blend for 95¢, and the 6oz chemex pour of single-sourced organic Ka'u for $8.

Drink what you like.

cold brewed coffee is not hip, it's like an ancient tradition in louisiana. that was the only way my wife's family made their coffee (all people of louisiana).

/ i don't think it's worth the effort, unless you plan on drinking the coffee cold. but, it can be good for certain types of beans.

Been to lots of those places and they do do an exceptional coffee. Although I prefer the Angry Catfish due to its proximity to Buster's, which is one of my favorite establishments. Any bar that refuses to sell anything with "lite, or "light" in the name, and stays away from american macrobrews, is my kind of place.

Sounds like you're trying to rope Florida or North Carolina into "southern."

Come to Louisiana. Our coffee will put hair on your chest.

We need it that strong to knock down the hangover and shiat out the ridiculously unhealthy food from the night before.

Isn't there a a high end coffee that has the beans marinated in cat shiat to make it taste better?

"Kopi luwak" is an Indonesian coffee prepared by harvesting the undigested beans from the waste of civets (who are closer relatives to mongooses than cats) who had eaten coffee berries. It is said that the chemistry of the civet's digestive tract affects the flavor of the brew.

I'm not willing to pay $30 a cup to find out if that's true, though.
