I can think of a lot worse places to live then Kentucky

Yes, I want to live in Utah, where my liberties are decided by a bunch of religious zealots that have purchased their power.

OK, but what about Eastern Kentucky?

Yep. I'd say Florida, Arizona, Mississippi, Afghanistan, THEN Kentucky.

WTF is a 24/7 Wall St???

2012-08-12 01:16:37 PM
So I should now say, if you like libertarianism so much, why don't you move to Kentucky?

/you have to be a real douchebag to call yourself Rand.

The most liveable state in the USA -- Utah. Maybe if you're Mormon, moran.

2012-08-12 01:17:26 PM
West Virginia is a legit number 1 for least. I would need a damn big paycheck to move to Utah

Utah is a very beautiful place

Factor in when I can pick up booze, and that list gets flopped.

This article is bullshiat. Colorado is a terrible state and nobody should consider moving here, especially Texans. If you're a Texan, let me tell you that Colorado is horrible and you do not want to move here or even vacation here. Stay in Texas, you'll be way better off.

Aaaaaaand, I think we're done here today. It's been a nice thread and we look forward to having everyone back again soon. Good night, everybody!

Haha... I already lived in Colorado Springs for five years and left. Happy? I am.

Why would the number of smokers or fat people have any bearing on whether a place was livable?

2012-08-12 01:25:54 PM

Alphakronik: Yes, I want to live in Utah, where my liberties are decided by a bunch of religious zealots that have purchased their power.

This! The list loses its credibility at the outset by ranking Utah #1. I could barely handle the liquor laws in Baton Rouge.

I am able to do so also, but I am a resident of Louisville. I am unable to consider many worse places to live in Kentucky outside of Louisville.

As a lifelong Kentuckian I am getting a kick....

Any list with Utah as #1 is suspect.

Every state with Appalachia in it should be judged twice. Once for the non-Appalachia part & once for the part that sucks. KY is a fine place to live. It's cheap & there are plenty of jobs for any type of college degree.

Notable problems:
Almost all the major hospitals are now owned by one Catholic conglomerate. Get fired by one & you're screwed.
Creation Museum is getting more state money. Schools are getting less.

Bonus points:
Home of Fark.

The state of hopelessness is a biatch.

2012-08-12 01:30:30 PM
If I had to move to another state, I'd go probably try North Carolina (Raleigh/Durham) or Texas (Austin or Dallas). Both seem to have good costs of living, good higher education (although I know there are problems with TX elementary schools), jobs, and decent people around.

Utah? While very pretty, I don't recall really any of that there...

/just an opinion

Doesn't it make sense that North Dakota is #1 in lowest unemployment rate? Would anyone actually move to North Dakota other than for a good job offer, and would anyone actually stay in North Dakota if they were unemployed?

It's hard to believe no one wants to live in Minnesota, given that you can find a safe place to exercise and clean drinking water. There must be some kind of drawback that the author isn't mentioning.

It's true, I know a guy who moved there for an electrician job in the boonies, because they need them really bad. He came back for a weekend to visit and would not stop complaining about the lack of women out there, but hey, it's a job right. Just do your time and make it to journey man and go move somewhere better.

ooooh, I'm so surprised that a site called 24/7 Wall St would pick Utah as the best place to live. It's not like Wall St's dream prez candidate is from that state.

Like other people hear have pointed out, this list is bullshiat. I mean, come on, New Jersey isn't on the top 10 list?

cryinoutloud: If you quit smoking, your dollars would go further! I'm just putting that out there, since I"m smart.

I can't argue with that, but I will point out that because we have stupid-low state taxes on tobacco (as we are a tobacco state), Camel sends me coupons for anywhere from .75 to 1.50 off a pack, and I can use those on Camel varieties that are often discounted .75 off the pack to begin with, I can get a pack of smokes for like 2 bucks.

Suck it NY!

You don't want to go to Utah, it's full of republicans. So if you're a welfare queen or a union thug or if you don't like snow it's the wrong place for you. They keep all the snow and just send the surplus scraps off to Aspen and Vail. It's full of guns and they even allow concealed carry on campus so if you're thinking of a Virginia tech style mass murder you'd want to go to some place nice and liberal where your victims will be already disarmed for your pleasure. Try Obama's home town instead, I understand that in addition to getting together a JFK level voter fraud for November and covering up all the indiscretions with Blagojevich Hizzonner Rahm has turned it into a paradise on earth by keeping out Chick Fil A.

after living in that shiathole oregon for 5 years, i really think it would be just as bad as utah. they're not so much environmentalists as they are entitlement issue lazy people. other places in the US are much more environmentally inclined (and actually doing something about it) than oregon.

Not surprised to see FL on the list. Being told "just be happy you have a job" has been the basic premise of my performance reviews for the past 2 years now.

Positive attitudes go well beyond just the number of jobs: in the past 18 months, residents of Utah were more likely than those of any other state to claim they felt treated like a partner at work and to claim they had easy access to clean water.

Is that the case for non-Mormons too?

/honest question
