Good to see Ronin there. Wrong Bond movie though. That one is laughable (and not in the good sense of the word)

2012-08-12 01:10:00 PM
Have to go with Ronin--it has a realistic feel to it and I think Skip Sudduth and DeNiro did some of their own driving. Another that comes to mind is Peter Hyams' Busting with the Cadillac ambulance chase at the end.

Bathia_Mapes: "What's Up Doc?" chase scene

RC car vs Dirty Harry chase scene from "The Dead Pool"

Both set in San Francisco.

Good to see some love for "What's Up, Doc?" These darned lists always seem to miss what might one of the funniest chase scenes ever filmed.

Bathia_Mapes: RC car vs Dirty Harry chase scene from "The Dead Pool"

I felt that was the biggest omission on the list. Seems silly if you're just watching it without knowing the details...but it was an awesome chase scene.

Loved the Ronin pick (very underrated movie)

Terminator 3
To LIve and Die in LA

The twenty greatest movie carchases of all time

An important distinction as Nina Hartley's Ass points out.

Yup. Came here to say this.

Also, "Foul Play".

Perhaps some folks - including tardmitter - would like to look at TFHeadline in TFA:

Great. Not greatest. IOW, no rankings.

-10 for listing that piece of crap Nic Cage movie instead of the original "Gone in 60 Seconds."

2012-08-12 02:41:28 PM
How could this list be complete without the chase scene from The Seven-Ups (1973)! That is right up there with Bullitt!

2012-08-12 02:42:34 PM

SilentStrider: The Blues Brothers included?
Yes?
Then we're good.

Rims.

I know the whole movie is a chase scene but I think Spielberg's DUEL should have been included.

/awesome scene in the diner!

The Italian Job (2003)

These 2 must still be out on the lam. That's the only explanation for their absence from the list.

Nice to point out To Live and Die in L.A. and The Seven Ups. Freebie and the Bean comes to mind as well....

dictyboy: -10 for listing that piece of crap Nic Cage movie instead of the original "Gone in 60 Seconds."

That turd of a remake has nothing on the original. Let me know when Nic Cage decides to direct, write, produce, star, and perform all his own stunts in a movie.

cherryl taggart: Bullitt and French Connection not the top two??? Inconceivable!!

Failing to put Bullitt at #1 is a complete mistake.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b4mLNnxZM38&feature=fvwrel

/no dialog in the entire chase scene
//no crappy popular music group soundtrack
///no stupid one-liners by the star or the villian

slayer199: Loved the Ronin pick (very underrated movie)

For me, Ronin has moved to my #2 favorite movie spot. There are actually two major chase scenes but the second one is amazing - check out all the cameras placed on crashed cars throughout.

While some have criticized the use of the MacGuffin soon after it was similarly used in Pulp Fiction, in Ronin it truly works and keeps you engaged. David Mamet did the script (credited as "Richard Weisz") which never gets in the way of the well-structured story.

Plus, Natascha McElhone.

Should have had Apocalypto. You don't need cars to have great chase scenes.

/heard the Naked Prey also falls into that category, but haven't seen it

2012-08-12 03:01:25 PM
I Call Bullshiat!!!! No way Gone in 60 IQ Points or The Italian Hand-Job outrank Bullit!!!

2012-08-12 03:04:03 PM
I mean really, Herbie Goes Banana's has more style than 'Wasted my 60 Seconds'....

Another fun chase scene set in San Francisco. The Rock (some NSFW language)

Benny Hill.

ZMugg: Dirty Mary, Crazy Larry.

List fails without "The Man Who Knew Too Little."

They put in Tomorrow Never Dies phone chase over the GoldenEye tank chase?

It's wrong.

2012-08-12 03:35:42 PM
Wrong Nic Cage film.

Should be The Rock!

2012-08-12 03:37:20 PM
Left off Vanishing Point.

Who ARE those guys?

List is like panning for gold in a river of shiat.

Yeah, they are in there, but you gotta go though a lot of shiat to find them.

List does fail for not mentioning Shelby Cobra vs Ferrari 365 GTS/4 in Gumball Rally.

And as much as I love the movie, no. It's obviously not shot at speed, and even worse, they speed the film up.

This list definitely failed by not mentioning that one.

I concur. It involves Dirty Harry, FFS.

optional: Should have had Apocalypto. You don't need cars to have great chase scenes.

There's a car in it...

Jade did it better than Bullitt. You can't have Death Proof without Vanishing Point. And not including Dirty Mary Crazy Larry is yet another indicator of what level EW is on.

/Charlie's Angels sequel needs to be slapped out of an editor's mouth.

2012-08-12 04:07:12 PM
Fails without "To Live and Die in L.A.".

2012-08-12 04:07:48 PM
In addition to Bullitt, the Nazis chasing down Steve McQueen in The Great Escape belongs on the list.
