Kudos for the video editing skills. Good stuff.

Pretty good, although very notable ones missing, including this one

I couldn't stand this guy before. Now that I know his name is Wally, I like him even less. If this guy and Adele were a couple and she caught him cheating, IT WOULD BE ONE BILLION BREAKUP SONGS.

As sick of this song as I am, this version is fantastic.

As comprehensive and extensive as I tried to be with my downloading of source videos, I know there are many clips that I missed.

Best part is around 3:50. That guy is my hero.

Agreed. That was my favorite part.

Also, regarding the whole video: Whoah.

I can't imagine how many hours of work that represents. Putting that together must have taken hundreds of hours.

Is that Joanna Newsom at around 3:30?

I'm not sure what the hate is all about, simply because I'm not familiar with the song, but from what I heard I liked it .Go figure.

Well that was annoying.

I still love this song -- probably because it has such a wonderful Peter Gabriel flare to it.

Would you liked him better if he simply sued the unlicensed covers? You have to respect a guy who appreciates his fans instead of suing them. I am looking at you Lars.

Kinda like when Natalie Imbruglia stepped out on stage for the Deaf Karaoke Live. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. I think that he is to be commended for acknowleging the many covers in such a creative manner.

2012-08-12 06:36:28 PM
The Wiki page about him indicates his voice is reminiscent of Sting or Peter Gabriel. I can kinda hear them both in there.

2012-08-12 07:32:05 PM
Don't mind his music, it's interesting but terribly overplayed right now. I just wish he'd use his real name instead of that stagename, because everyone here knows what it reads like when you glance at it on a page.

As much as this song has gone stale, I like it. And I like Wally even more now that he has shown himself to have a decent sense of humor and a well-grounded perspective of himself. That said, his nom de plume reminds me of Goatse and I throw up in my mouth a little every time.

Was that a Macintosh SE at around 1 minute in, and then again a few times after that?

2012-08-12 08:34:59 PM
That reminds a lot of another track he did a while back, that I love, called "A Distinctive Sound". This guy is more like RJD2 or Wax Tailor than Peter Gabriel, btw.

Here's a thought....Come up with your own farking song.

I like the song, but it really is overplayed. And in such a bizzare way.....the local pop music station that plays nothing but dance pop and techno and electronica non-stop will, every now and then, slide this song in. It's kind of infuriating to hear a car pull up at a stop light, hear the end of this song, think "I like that", then hear the intro to some farking eurotrash top 40 bullshiat.

Basically, I think people have no taste and they are slapping interesting music into the same bowl as shiat music.

//tl;dr

Apparently that song is being slammed to the ground everywhere, but I hope people can look past the over-play and hear some more of his music. His first record was pretty good too. Heart's a Mess is a fantastic song with a fantastic video.

I agree with that. Heart's a Mess is probably a better song and hasn't gotten much play.

didn't know the song, or the artist, but that edit was very cool.

Can't seem to find it right now, but the "3AM remix" of "Heart's a mess" is pretty smooth, too.

That is a great song, and thanks for sharing it. But I have to wonder how Doves feel about the music, and how Gerald Scarfe feels about the video. I want to consider both some kind of homage, but without seeing the credits I can't know. I admit I don't know anything about Brendan Cook, unfortunately. When I try to look him up, I get hits mostly about some hockey star with the same name.

This video makes me appreciate the Information Age. This kind of creative collaboration would not have been possible 30 years ago.

telaran: I agree with that. Heart's a Mess is probably a better song and hasn't gotten much play.

Perhaps the problem being that it came out five years ago on a different album has something to do with that. No matter to me, I've got him favorited on Pandora, YouTube, and I even bought "Making Mirrors" and "Like Drawing Blood" for the car.

PLAY ALL THE SONGS!

Also, this terrific remix is completely unsurprising given his basic knack for remixing things into his catalog of work. "Making Mirrors" was his first significant move to create most of the sounds with non-electronic instruments, though he multi-sampled them. He's a dedicated tinkerer and immensely patient.

This song needs to die in a fire. Just like Friday and Call Me Maybe... and anything by jubbin beaver.

Originally I actually thought it was a Sting song just because of his voice, but yeah the song has much more of a Gabriel vibe.
