Harris said she loves Pandora but that political ads may convince her to upgrade to an ad-free version of the service.

Which I assume costs money. Seems like their plan worked.

I haven't listened to Garth Brooks since I discovered Johnny Cash and realized what "real" country sounds like. Then again, I haven't really listened to any non-satellite country station since then, either.

It's among the latest in a series of increasingly sophisticated tactics that campaigns are using to target narrow groups of voters online

There's nothing "sophisticated" about it, you farking bottom feeder.

Pandora said the email sharing feature simply gives listeners what they want. "Sometimes, a listener wants to learn more about a product that's being advertised on Pandora, whether it's a car, a movie, or a political candidate," said Sean Duggan, Pandora's vice president of advertising, in an emailed statement.

No they don't you scumbag marketing weasel.

Garth Brooks is a Democrat. Silly Pandora.

I dislike Romney and Pandora but it is simply foolish to complain about an ad while choosing to use something that is ad supported.
Why is this waste of time green lit?

// not a Brooks fan either

Yup, he's an Obama supporter. They'd be better of with the fans of asshat Toby Keith.

I got that ad on my Pandora Dubstep station.

I was amused.

I like listening to The Veronicas and Paula Abdul, and the only ads I keep getting are for "A Guide to Coming Out of the Closet."

Ads suck. Ignore them or avoid them. Don't go running to a journalist every time you see one.

Indeed. A whopping $36/year.

I love Pandora, so I happily pay that: no ads, higher-quality audio, supporting a company who generally does online music in a way that I like.

/political ads can die in a fire.
//so can normal ads, for that matter.

And people who listen to him on Pandora were probably voting for Romney anyway. Once again, the Romney campaign is demonstrating its laser-like focus on the conservative base and incompetence at capturing the moderate vote.

/not that it matters anyway. Romney can't win without Florida, which he lost as soon as he selected Ryan.

I realize that but they don't have to be so smarmy about it, like they're doing everyone a favor by giving them vital information about shiat they have to buy. Or maybe they do have to be smarmy about it. They are marketing people.

Toby Keith is registered as an independent, but he was a big Obama supporter in 2008. He's since said that he's a little disappointed with Obama, but he certainly hasn't had anything nice to say about Romney, so far as I know.

What their actual politics are hardly matters. Elton John sung at Rush Limbaugh's wedding. Garth Brooks wears a cowboy hat so he's popular with shiat kickin' hicks.

1) Give a "free" service to democrat constituents
2) Annoy them with republican political ads and charge them to upgrade to ad free version
3) Profit

"Garth Brooks owned Central Park that night." In May of 1998, the New York Fire Department officially announced the final attendee numbers at 980,000. This made the concert the largest ever held in Central Park.

A year ago Pandora was giving me one ad about every 15 mins, which was fine.
The other night I listened for 6 hours & got one ad.

I've heard Pandora is having trouble. Looks like advertisers aren't seeing the clicks.

CSB time:

About 15 years ago I got to sit in on an exec conference call where they were talking about having the phone support personnel at the end of every call mention "special offers exclusive to our members" and then transfer the customer to a third party marketing line who would then try to sell them shiat. When most of the customer support and tech guys on the call pointed out this was a terrifyingly bad idea and our customers would likely hate it, the marketing director actually said:

"Our members will be happy that we're giving them the opportunity to buy something."

Marketing people live on an entirely different plane of reality. We should firebomb that reality and make sure there are no survivors.

Well, doesn't that depend on whether she upgrades to the ad-free version Pandora supplies, or one of the many similar competing services that didn't piss her off?

By the way if anyone here is in advertising or marketing... kill yourself.

No, no, no it's just a little thought. I'm just trying to plant seeds. Maybe one day, they'll take root - I don't know. You try, you do what you can. Kill yourself.

Seriously though, if you are, do.

Aaah, no really, there's no rationalisation for what you do and you are Satan's little helpers. Okay - kill yourself - seriously. You are the ruiner of all things good, seriously. No this is not a joke, you're going, "there's going to be a joke coming," there's no farking joke coming. You are Satan's spawn filling the world with bile and garbage. You are farked and you are farking us. Kill yourself. It's the only way to save your farking soul, kill yourself.

insertsnarkyusername: I keep hearing that and I probably missed something but why is Ryan toxic to Florida voters? Something to do with his medicare "reform" attempts I assume?

Bingo. His Path To ProsperityTM essentially balances the budget by privatizing Social Security and turning Medicare into a voucher program. Which isn't designed to keep up with rises in health care costs, so it will go from "much worse than the current system" today to "won't pay for you to sit in a waiting room for thirty seconds" in ten years.

Those two programs are pretty high up on the list of Florida priorities. Pretty much the only parts of the Florida base they won't lose are the Israel worshippers and the good old-fashioned Southern racists, which aren't going to be nearly enough to carry the state.

Assuming the Obama campaign can do what it needs to do, the presidential race was finished yesterday at 9AM EST. The only question now is what will happen on Capitol Hill.

And it's probably not going to go over well with the Cuban contingent that at one point he supported ending the embargo with Cuba. The embargo is idiotic, but disagreeing with it is political suicide in Florida.
