I don't understand why Wonder Woman's iconography makes her a difficult property to develop for the screen. I'm assuming the writer is referring to her mythological origins?

Is that really what is holding back development on a Wonder Woman movie? Thor is packed full of in Norse Gods, and it generated enough cash for a sequel. Same with the Clash of the Titans series - featuring the same Greek gods used in Wonder Woman's supporting cast.

FirstNationalBastard: Dimensio: From the article:

The bigger problem, however, is that DC has just rebooted Superboy (for the second time in two decades) and he's not a younger version of Kal-El. He's a partial clone of Kal-El and another alien race.

Evidently the author considers the 1990s to be a time in which events "just" occurred, though this is understandable if the author believes humans to be aliens.

No, no, the author thinks Lex Luthor is an alien now. And that's terrible.

The "rebooted" Superboy is evidently a hybrid clone of Superman and an as-yet unidentified human.

My statement regarding the author's perception of time was inaccurate, as Superboy's origin was recently "rebooted".

repeated and THIS'd for emphasis!

There are a couple problems with Wonder Woman. First, there's never been a good, memorable Wonder Woman story. No, Kingdom Come or Sacrifice don't count. Second, every time someone tries to make a Wonder Woman live action project, it turns into this huge mess that doesn't know whether it wants to spout feminist jargon or show Wonder Woman as someone with the powers of a god but still can't find a good man.

Until WBDC gets it through their thick heads that people just want to see Wonder Woman kick ass (like Xena) and not identify with her romantic problems, there won't be a good Wonder Woman movie or TV show.

/so, twelfth of never.

So. You never read Wonder Woman huh? I can think of a number of good ones.

No one reads Wonder Woman. That's the whole point.

Superman, Batman, The Flash, Green Lantern... it isn't difficult to think of a memorable story for any of the characters.

Wonder Woman? Nothing. Just forgettable run after forgettable run. There's no Terminal Velocity or Rogue's War or No Man's Land or President Lex or Sinestro War for Wonder Woman.

No, YOU don't read it. Therefore you can't think of a storyline. If you don't read it, how could you have any idea if there are good arcs or not? Odyssey would be a perfect fit. Almost anything from Greg Rucka's run, or Contagion from Gail Simones run. Also, the new 52 line would make great movie material.

My thoughts exactly. Warner is just terrible at thinking outside a modern setting. They want everything set in a modern day setting it seems. They seem to be afraid of a story that steps into mythology or outer space.

Please. More of these.

With a bigger budget, and more full animation, I'd agree with you. Not the way they're coming out now. Look at the way even Bruce Timm's excellent designs have been compromised by the terrible animation and low production values at Warner.

MattyFridays: FirstNationalBastard: MattyFridays: OK, help me out here.

Early 80's. Free, "PSA-type" comic book. Not sure which superhero was featured. Subject was drug-abuse, featured kids laughing at a funeral. Anyone recall?

Was it one of the Teen Titans drug abuse comics?

There were three of them, one from Keebler, and two from the President's Drug Awareness Campaign.

There was also a Captain America DRUGS book.

YES! IT WAS TEEN TITANS! I remember because Cyborg was in and that was the first time I saw him and I wondered how he peed.

I don't recall if this was Rucka, Simone, or Picoult, but there was a good series where WW fought the devil alongside Beowulf in order to reclaim her soul. That would make a great movie.

Yeah, I'd love to see The Goon on the big screen. What could be more fun than orangutans that suffer from spontaneous combustion?

I'd also like to see a movie about the classic Doom Patrol from the '60s.

And Ambush Bug. Can't leave out Ambush Bug.

That was Picoult. Also an excellent choice. Warner just wants everything to be Batman in tone and style instead of marking creative, brilliant work. Very depressing

I strongly disagree with their evaluation of the Power Pack comic. A properly computer-animated 3D kids movie will sell potentially better than any other property they have. They spend half their time infantilizing their characters for toddler consumption as it is. Just hand Power Pack off to Pixar and let them go crazy with it and they could have a summer blockbuster kiddie flick.

As long as they don't John Carter it.

The source material was pretty terrifying at times. I remember first learning about sexual predators from that comic. It could be an amazing film if anyone had the balls to do it and didn't make it cute and broad brush.

Was it this book?

You know, the one where young Peter Parker's friend Skip Westcott wanted to see how far lil' Spidey could shoot his organic webbing?

No, it was when he got felt up by the comic book store owner.

That'll be a hard sell since last year's TV show was canceled before the first commercial break. And it was on the CW. They don't cancel anything.

There's a few I'd like to see before I could rule out any superhero movie.

I'm still waiting on:
The Badger (Told in 2 parts, 1 in the Hospital and 1 in the "World". Maybe give Bryan Fuller a chance to play with the visuals.)
The Helm
Metal Men
Doom 2099

And fwiw, I want to believe that both Ambush Bug and Ghost Rider would be better weekly series than movies. (Ghost Rider could follow the Kung Fu format, AB the Tick.)

You're right. An animated series probably would be a better format for Power Pack than just a movie.

Though personally, I'd say give the Pony people at The Hub a chance to do it.

Of course, if Jeph Loeb is in control of the Marvel animated stuff the way Dini and Timm controlled the DCAU, well... nothing good will come of that.

For anyone interested, there is currently a group on Facebook attempting to get Marvel and Hasbro (since they already have a working relationship with the Marvel Legends line) to reprint ROM as a fundraiser for Bill Mantlo, the man who wrote the entire series.

Look up Rom's Spaceknights To Benefit Bill Mantlo (since Fark won't let me link the group)

He was hit by a car in 1992 and has been in institutionalized care since then. The hope is that the proceeds of a ROM reprint would go toward helping pay for his care, since it's not likely he'll ever be able to live on his own.

That was part of a plot against him. He was put into a cloned body, giving him back his humanity. But the clone was intentionally given a short lifespan. He was supposed to rapidly decay and die painfully, so the wraiths would finally be free of their greatest enemy.

I never knew about that. I read up on it, and that's some FANTASTIC stuff.

The problem is, TV would be very very hesitant to do that because of the high bodycount from season to season. It would be a risky move to recycle the stars of the show every year.

It was a fun series. Got a little weird towards the end of the run, but the early issues were packed with great stuff. The high bodycount WAS an issue, and that was kind of the point. For a TV series it would make for a nice counterpoint to the endless repeats of reality TV or the backstory laden flashback series.
