Superman and Batman should be the top of the list.

With Superman, every damn movie is another origin, and his only villain is Lex Luthor.

And Batman has already had, what, a dozen movies already?

Author's not a big DC fan I see. He's not wrong though. The Justice League is pretty lame compared to The Avengers. And people might be tired of Superman after the lackluster Superman Returns and what seems like 15 years of Smallville and Lois & Clark before that.

Wonder Woman needs a movie. fark you.

And actually, a Power Pack movie? Never thought of it before, but hell yes. I'm in.

As long as they don't John Carter it.

The source material was pretty terrifying at times. I remember first learning about sexual predators from that comic. It could be an amazing film if anyone had the balls to do it and didn't make it cute and broad brush.

That'll be a hard sell since last year's TV show was canceled before the first commercial break. And it was on the CW. They don't cancel anything.

You know, the one where young Peter Parker's friend Skip Westcott wanted to see how far lil' Spidey could shoot his organic webbing?

OK, help me out here.

Early 80's. Free, "PSA-type" comic book. Not sure which superhero was featured. Subject was drug-abuse, featured kids laughing at a funeral. Anyone recall?

I have the feeling we'll see two more Hulk movies before we ever see a Wonder Woman flick. And then it'll be of "Catwoman" quality.

I don't remember a free one (though I'm sure they existed), but Amazing Spider-Man's Green Goblin Reborn arc was made in response to a request from the Health Department. Link I believe that was the first depiction of narcotic abuse in a main title.

That's why DC or Marvel should be careful just who handles their characters.
They may make a ton of cash ala The Avengers, or you could end up with Dolph Lundgren Punisher and/or Adrianne Palicki Wonder Woman. No knock on Dolph or Adrianne, they did the best with what they were given. but still....

2012-08-12 11:52:53 AM
Two things I want from Superhero movies:
1) A Squirrel Girl movie. Hell, make it direct-to-dvd. It could be a good satire of all of the big-budget blockbusters.

2) The next time DC decides to reboot a franchise (whether it's Batman, Superman, or whatever), the last film before the reboot has to end with Superboy punching the film reel into oblivion at the end of the credits.

Was it one of the Teen Titans drug abuse comics?

There were three of them, one from Keebler, and two from the President's Drug Awareness Campaign.

There was also a Captain America DRUGS book.

There are a couple problems with Wonder Woman. First, there's never been a good, memorable Wonder Woman story. No, Kingdom Come or Sacrifice don't count. Second, every time someone tries to make a Wonder Woman live action project, it turns into this huge mess that doesn't know whether it wants to spout feminist jargon or show Wonder Woman as someone with the powers of a god but still can't find a good man.

Until WBDC gets it through their thick heads that people just want to see Wonder Woman kick ass (like Xena) and not identify with her romantic problems, there won't be a good Wonder Woman movie or TV show.

Manufactured nerd rage. oh boy! That's tough to do, article writer.

Put a good writer on anything and it doesn't matter.
Put Whedon on Aquaman and it'd make enough for a sequel.
This article is dumb.

2012-08-12 12:48:46 PM
I love how he bases his opinion with Aquaman and Wonder Woman on the crappy ways they've been portrayed before, like "You had your chance, but the previous guy decided to make you look stupid, so you're not fit for anything!". Hire an intelligent script writer and tell the studio to go to hell if they want to make drastic changes.

And no thanks to that retarded SuperFriends cartoon, Aquaman's forever relegated to "joke character". Never mind that he's nearly as strong as Superman, practically invulnerable underwater, can crush your ass with water spheres, and commands everything that lives in the depths (EVERYTHING, and you better hope he's in a charitable mood and only summons blue whales or giant squid). Plus he's a total hottie and perfect to lure viewers in with fanservice.

This, also

Aquaman movie COULD be very good depending on script and director. Should be dark not preachy and feature him as a king not some random mystery Eco d-bag. Good ending for the movie after all the fighting and yapping on would be him waking some heinous beast from the ocean depths to make his point, some cthullu / godziolla like huge monster.

No one reads Wonder Woman. That's the whole point.

Superman, Batman, The Flash, Green Lantern... it isn't difficult to think of a memorable story for any of the characters.

Wonder Woman? Nothing. Just forgettable run after forgettable run. There's no Terminal Velocity or Rogue's War or No Man's Land or President Lex or Sinestro War for Wonder Woman.

From the article:

The bigger problem, however, is that DC has just rebooted Superboy (for the second time in two decades) and he's not a younger version of Kal-El. He's a partial clone of Kal-El and another alien race.

Evidently the author considers the 1990s to be a time in which events "just" occurred, though this is understandable if the author believes humans to be aliens.

No, no, the author thinks Lex Luthor is an alien now. And that's terrible.
