Not always. The 800 wasn't that way.

The necklaces? Good luck charm or something that they're so used to that the absence is distracting.

Heck of a finish.

Alright. I have to like Mo Farah. He's got a lot of heart and the speed to pull it off. Chalk up one more gold for the Brits.

Bungles: Wenike: So, why are all the Nike track shoes dayglow green?

Because Adidas are the official sponsor who paid hundreds of millions.

And people only notice the neon Nikes.

Genius.

They both do it, my Addidas F50 football boots (soccer shoes as more commonly know in these parts) are neon green too, only color i could find em in locally, the hot pink accent color really adds to the look as well

Is Nike only sponsoring the US team then? There's definitely been commercials with them claiming to sponsor ("Find Your Greatness")

Joe_diGriz: I see American is doing the tried-and-true "let's run in the middle of everyone else so it'll be harder to accelerate when I need to"

Rupp doesn't have the speed to be in front for much of the race, because being in front takes too much out of him and he won't have anything left kick-wise. Lagat is too old and the other guy I've never heard of.

They couldn't work Cooper into that commercial?

The other guy spent all his energy running from the rebel army in Sudan or something

Nike is providing the uniforms for a lot of nations and a lot of the athletes have endorsement deals with Nike.

The 800 isn't a true distance event...more like N endurance sprint. I'm talking about like 3K and up.

If you look, they're generic commercials. They never mention the Olympics.

Selector: I'm talking about like 3K and up.

Well the Olympic records aren't far off from the world records, or werent' when they were set, so there are fast races, just a matter of the runners wanting to do it. And there are 1500s and 5000s that are won leading just about the whole way.

Not very often. Even going back to Prefontaine/Viren days, everyone likes to sit and kick. You get the occasional ambitious soul occasionally, but he almost always loses because leading simply takes too much out. But 2:55 for 1K split?? Thats horseshiat. Put a rabbit in for the first 3K or so and keep the pace honest.

Did you catch the commentary under that video window?

Yeah, the actual video was pretty lame, tame and disappointing after reading that.
Somehow I ignored or didn't read far enough ahead before starting the video to realize that is was just another jezebelch.

But using only females, half of them from beach volleyball, is pretty sexist (and was more boring than sexy).

If they can handle a pace with a rabbit, then no reason they can't do the pace on their own. Trick is deciding to do it.

Distance runners just don't look like any remotely reasonable version of healthy.

Sprinters, however, look fantastic.

Not physically, no, but they think they can't. Otherwise, why would the less speedy people continue to bumble along at a slow pace?? All they're doing it setting it up for the kickers, and they know it. Plus leading really does tAke about 10% more out of you.

It seems to be the style, but I personally won't succumb to wearing a gingham shirt with a suit. Looks like you're either a guy on a business trip who forgot to pack the right shirt, or you're a single guy who never learned how to dress.

Not unless it's a Jewish greyhound.

Jokes.

It's the same concept, but for different reasons. A rabbit is used in dog races to give the dogs something to chase, and thusly, get them to run faster. Same concept for humans, except they're not trying to eat the rabbit (!!).

Pretty common to see in the UK along with a variety of other loud/checked shirts.

there their theyre: When you say rabbi do you mean like a greyhound race?

Sorta, you get one or two runners who take out the pace for a certain number of laps before peeling off. Granted, there have been cases where they haven't exactly peeled off. Also at meets where they participate they're usually compensated for their work. And they're not allowed at the Olympics, World Championships and some other meets.

Selector: All they're doing it setting it up for the kickers, and they know it.

That's what has killed American runners. It's like they're afraid to take it out and thin the crowd. Even if they can't run away with it, better dealing with three runners with a good kick who've had to run a solid pace as opposed to looking at the backs of 7 runners with good kicks who aren't even having to run hard most of the race.

and just to make it clear to everyone since nbc hasn't so far and probably won't, Boudia is having to immediately follow the craziness of fans with Tom Daley every time during this final round.

For all the time NBC spends covering diving, you think they'd do a better job of explaining things like...the difficulty, or the scoring, or what they're doing well or botching.

If a flash were to go off at just the wrong time it could make it hard for them to orient themselves relative to the water.

Agreed. Rupp never had a chance. But the culture in US distance running is so negative towards leading that it's nearly antithetical, for some reason. True, it takes a little more out of you, but it's negligible when stretched across 5K or 10k, and its really the only shot for people who dont have s hellacious kick. Makes the race more interesting too, in my opinion.

You'd think they would have tried to get someone like Greg Louganis on their diving commentary. He's there, but apparently just as a spectator

That would take away time from items that NBC deems important like Ryan Seacrest, inane comentary, stupid filler stuff, and the long blocks of commercials promoting their shiatty shows like Stars Earns Stripes, Revolution, The New Normal, etc.
After all, NBC stands for Nothing But Crap.

How is it during the week (when I get up at 0445 for work) that my cable has five different Olympic broadcasts going? On Saturday night there is but one (NBC) and they're doing a highlight thing.

I'm awake - let me watch!
