That is one beautifully designed cross country cycling course. I hope some form of it stays after the games.

Caught some of the 50k race walk this morning. I bet the judges for that sport are horrible people.

Canada continues to pad its bronze medal haul with another one in men's kayak. We really don't care for gold or silver, do we?

/we're #3!
//and #33 in the medal table!

You did not care for gold in 1976 or 1988, after all...

I'm watching that now too & would love to ride it myself one day - not today, those ladies would kick my ass & make me cry like a little girl, but someday.

NBC Sports is showing face kicking, AKA taekwondo. The color comentator said about one of the competitors that if she was not wearing chest protection, she'd have broken ribs.

It will be adjusted a bit after the olympics, but will be available for the public to ride.

I think the best part is that you can actually watch what is happening - too often in previous olympics you just see highlights of the riders passing through a few fixed camera positions and most of the route (and therefore the key parts of the race) tends to not be shown.

Yeah, there's no shame in being the only host country not to win a gold medal, right?

I heard that mentioned too & think that it's great (along with adding a lot more trails). I doubt however that I'll personally get over across the pond until long after my trail riding days are over. Ah well, there are a few nice trails around here (& plenty where I grew up) so I have no regrets.

I agree about the coverage too, BBC is doing a spectacular job of showing the whole thing rather than just a few second of clips which is all that NBC would probably show.

Hell of a fight for silver/bronze shaping up. Gold is locked up barring any bike problems.

/glad that I turned things on this morning

Summer games, that is. Four countries failed to win gold in the winter games they've hosted:France (1924), Switzerland (1928), Yugoslavia (1984), and Canada (1988).

Watchign wrestling online. One of the players (Jake Herbert) used to beat on my SO in high school on a regular basis. I want to learn some of his moves ;)

Too bad they stuck with the front runner from France (congrats to her on demolishing the competition) on her last few hundred meters. When they left #2 & 3 they were only a length or two apart but when they entered the finish area it was 30+ lengths. I'd really have liked to have seen what happened there.

Congrats to all, a great race

Watching live online with NBC and it went to commercial and they just played 30 commercial in a row, yes Three-Zero in a row. It appears someone is trying to make up some missed spost in the last two days.

They seem to be alternating men and women in the face kicking match. The women are sorta hot, despite the armor. Maybe it's because I find violent Asian women something of a turn on.

And the Modern Pentathlon. You missed that one Subby.

Mexico and Brazil, two cultures clearly lacking in colour, vibrancy, and above all - noise making capability.

I'm pretty sure that from here on out, it's medal rounds in everything. No more prelims unless there's a final the same day.

Oh, Teddy Atlas and Bob Papa got kicked out of their ringside booth by boxing officials, who called their commentary "very disturbing". They were offered a place alongside the other broadcasters in the main media area.

Atlas and Papa chose to go home instead. I can't say I blame them. I wouldn't want to be around for the gold medal fights either after seeing what led to them.

They're doing women's volleyball on NBC--bronze medal match between Japan and South Korea. The announcers aren't doing so well on pronouncing the names.
I wonder how long before they just do numbers.

Yeah, saw it earlier, was pretty good - both teams have really good defense. Japan need to work on getting their serves in more often though from what I saw.

Syrian athlete Ghfran Almouhamad has been disqualified from the Olympics after failing a drugs test, the International Olympic Committee has announced. The 23-year-old finished eighth in the second heat of the first round of the women's 400m hurdles.

Wow, thats gotta hurt - caught cheating after coming last in the first round of your event.

I can see this going to extra time. That would mean I'll not be able to make it to Turnbull and Asser before closing.

I cant blame them for saying something to the judges. If fairer judges cannot be found and deployed then the Olympics should just drop boxing as a sport or lowered in status to a trial sport for an Olympics to see if boxing can go legit.. These guys make the Olympic ice skating judges during the cold war look fair and competent

Yeah, it is funny especially when you have seen the same course run by the experts with their own horses when the fences weren't at ankle height.

I'll never have to hear these names again and neither will you. which is nice. Hardly matters whether the announcers get every dipthong and intonations just right really.

NBC shouldn't even show the gold medal bouts on CNBC or any other platform.

I was thinking, how do they train for the riding part of the pentathlon. Do they go around to stables asking random people if they could borrow their horse?
