Lost Thought 00: PanicMan: Steve Holland @steveholland1

Romney made up his mind to pick Ryan on Aug 1 and has been sitting on the decision ever since, an aide said.

That seems idiotic. Was he just holding it as a trump card to put the brakes on a bad week of news? Maybe he had a hard time convincing Ryan to join him?

The Olympics.

bulldg4life: I can only assume this will get the old people to come out in waves to vote for someone that wants to destroy Medicare as we know it

GAT_00: Oh man they're actually going to grab Medicare as a campaign issue and promise to change it.

Normally, I would want to say that they couldn't be this dumb. However, I've greatly underestimated the capacity for bad choices from the campaign or the electorate a few times this cycle.

Lost Thought 00: DamnYankees: Can anyone explain to me why this is happening on a battleship in Virginia? How does this location have ANYTHING to do with Romney or Ryan?

It was a pre-determined location to kick off Romney's Bus Tour. Just happened to be convenient location to announce the VP too

I humbly beg to differ. Virginia was won by Fartbongo in 2008 (First Democrat to do so since LBJ in 1964). On the state level they are basically Southerners or government contractors. They obviously have a hard-on for Governor Shove-A-Wand In-Your-Twat-Slut. Even teachers and hospital workers there would rather jeopardize their pensions if they thought Supply-side Jesus was speaking from the pulpit or if the coloreds might be getting too uppity or moving too close to the suburbs.

All I can figure is that he really wants to get the tax stuff out of the news cycle. Unfortunately, he announced his VP selection early Saturday morning during the Olympics.

FlashHarry: i'm just saying that he's done a helluva job against incredible odds.

I don't disagree on that. He is doing a helluva job. I'm just not sure that his helluva job is that great, is all.

Yeah, he has accomplished things, but without the public option, the healthcare bill is limp to me.

The thing is, regardless of whether he is doing it, shiat is getting shiattier and shiattier in America. Yes, it's almost always some fat, hateful republican ultimately responsible, but you know, more and more drone planes being used over the continental us. The continued militarization of law enforcement(the concept of "to protect and serve" is dead, now its ENFORCEMENT!). It's not my issue, but it would be cool if the DEA would go back to Bush era activity. You know, fark with meth heads and heroin kingpins and leave states with legal MJ alone.

Obama is doing good things with one hand, ok things with the other, and some totally bad shiat they hope noone really talks about when they are busy praising him for doing something good.

However, the GOP has not only gone completely off it's rocker, it has quite literally embraced nearly everything that is anathema to a stable, moral society. I totally agree.. the GOP will make everything wrong with the world worse. I seriously 10000% agree. I'm totally voting for Obama and maybe someday the FSM will destroy all followers of all Abrahamic religion, and the world can take a breath and relax again.

Oh good, the "didn't build that" lie again.

2012-08-11 09:14:03 AM
Goddamn, keep repeating that lie about not building your business, the rubes eat that shiat up.

dickfreckle: Two, Biden could have tore her open at any point, but didn't. I know we all love to laugh at Biden's goofy public appearances (and he probably laughs at them, too - he even joked about the Trans-Am meme), but there's a real current of intellectual spark running under that surface. We see it from time to time.

If Biden had stepped out of line and slammed her even once, there would've been 4-7 days of media firestorm over being mean. It would've allowed Palin to play the victim just long enough for everyone to just forget about what actually happened during the debate. There was just no point of the debate other than for Biden to waste a couple hours and say nothing spectacular.

"Bigger tax cuts for the rich paid for by cutting your medicare"
Romney/Ryan 2012

2012-08-11 09:14:40 AM
Paul Ryan picked pros and cons.

Pros:

Young
Handsome
At least believes in a Jesus to help Romney running against a Christian
Was actually born in the United States
Will help Romney stop his bleed-off of voters to Libertarian and Constitution parties (he hopes)

Cons:

HUGE penalty with older voters. Obama will be sending folks directly to old folks homes and targeting senior citizens now. Expect mailings from the AARP as well.
Catholic plus Mormon in South... have fun with that; I know the Libertarian Party (me) will be having a field day with it.
His viewpoints will NOT help Romney with women or minorities.

Well, it will definitely be an issue campaign when he gets destroyed for killing Medicare.

MSNBC is making a very interesting point - the gulf between how familiar the political press is with Ryan, and how familiar the public is with him, is huge. Maybe the biggest gulf ever, where the press knows him very well and considers him a household name, and where the public has no idea who he is.

2012-08-11 09:15:32 AM
No token black people in the crowd behind the podium? Somebody is getting fired.

At this point, the only thing Romney could do that would really surprise me is if he put out a full "first budget" that was identical to the Ryan budget that crashed and burned. He's spent the entire campaign not taking any stances on any important issues in any way, shape, or form.

He should make a complete 180 and map out his entire first year.

True. Palin was a complete unknown for everyone, and it took a while to figure out exactly how bad a choice she was. We don't have that problem this year.

2012-08-11 09:16:40 AM
Now, Obama's people get to go line by line through Ryan's budget and make Mitt's crack team of "we're not commenting on anything specific" peons defend each and every controversial proposal. I get that Romney's going for a gamechanger, but his operation doesn't have the chops to pull this off. He should have stuck with the boring old white guy.

A symbol of raw naked power that is obsolete in the current state of technology.

dickfreckle: It was kind of like watching the third quarter of a late-season game when one team has already clinched a 1st round bye and brought in scrubs. Total weaksauce, and the only reason to keep watching was because you were drunk at the time.

I disagree. Remember, going into the debates there was some real poutrage going on about the mean ol' media picking on Palin. It's very probable that, had Biden been more aggressive, it would have only served to energize the base more, and possibly sway some of independents. I think Biden did a pretty good job walking the line between kid gloves and illuminating jabs. According to pretty much everyone except the far right, and Fox News, he pretty handily won the debate, and he did so without giving much more ammo to the people slinging crap at the wall.

If the Obama campaign doesn't release an avalanche of mailers telling people that Ryan wants to destroy Medicare, they're idiots.

So I expect no mailers or ads.

badhatharry: People are aware that Medicare is going down the toilet. Old people will vote to save Medicare for their grandchildren.

Yes. Of course. Like all those other instances where old people voted for reforms instead of keeping what they have.

Voting to gut medicare and institute massive changes making it a private voucher program doesn't "save" Medicare.

2012-08-11 09:17:57 AM
Anyone else watching MSNBC right now? Look at the Blah couple in the back. They certainly don't look like the campaign placed them there as a prop. (eye roll)

Battleship is the USS Wisconsin. Ryan is from Wisconsin. (At least, I think that's the connection - otherwise, no idea).

All that's missing is a "Mission Accomplished" banner. Anyone got the l33t photoshop skillz to add one?

Here comes the fake military candidate. Don't those vets know that he pimped for the Vietnam war and then hauled ass to France to avoid serving?
