I don't think this movie will be that good, but it can't be any worse than the butt-hurt in that article.

2012-08-11 01:07:16 AM
At least Will Ferrell is stepping far outside his comfort zone with this role. It's very bold of him.

Man, that is an awful lot of whiny partisan butthurt, right wing talking points and conservative 'humor' pack into one review.

2012-08-11 08:34:15 AM
hmm...a guy I never heard of gives it half a star but Roger Ebert gives it 3 stars...

I think I'll take Roger's word over this guy's.

2012-08-11 08:37:43 AM
So I actually read that review and holy hell is it awfully written. I completely expect it to be posted on freerepublic.com for those guys to FAP over.

2012-08-11 08:39:48 AM
I don't like either of the leads and we're getting inundated with enough campaign bullshiat in real life for this to be interesting but that reviewer just sounds pissed that the humor might have hit too close to home for him.

2012-08-11 08:53:25 AM
You guys are all just dumb liberals who don't get it. This review is brilliant. I'll break it down for you, libtards. It's a movie review written as a POLITICAL SPEECH! As if that wouldn't be hilarious enough, it's a movie review written as a gut-busting political speech, about a typical Hollyweird leftist political comedy! It works on so many levels your little liberal brains can't even comprehend it! I know you libs have always had a tough time with satire, but come on!

a major drain on our nation's strategic comedy reserve

Genius!

a major rise in our mirth deficit

Brilliant!

I'm declaring a laugh emergency

I'm declaring this review a laff riot!

This, and I'm not a Ferrellite. I'm of the opinion of you either like these guys or you don't, and if you like them, this must be like farking nirvana or something.

\though I am curious as to W's review
\\seeing as that's about 80% of what Ferrell's character seems to be based off of.

I had no intention of seeing this movie, until I read this review. If the Post hates it, then I am obliged to investigate.

/If the NY Post tells you water is wet, you want to check their sources.

Battleship, The Raven, and whatever movie Katherine Heigl starred in would like a word with you.

Yeah, people throw "Worst. Movie. Ever." around a little freely. I haven't seen this, probably won't see it and most likely wouldn't like it if I did see it but I guarantee it's not the worst movie of the year. Not while Tyler Perry and Adam Sandler still walk the earth.

2012-08-11 10:14:33 AM
I bet the whiny asshat who wrote this piece of shiat review loved "An American Carol".

Because the standard for artistic merit here seems to be how well it conforms to his political views.

The star power alone will make it a semi-cult fave. Besides, at least it's a new film. Perhaps the author is just mad this isn't Spy Kids 7 or Baby Geniuses 9.

Cry the fark moar.

2012-08-11 11:37:47 AM
It looks to me like the author of the review has never heard of Poe's Law. No matter how badly they lampoon political campaigning in the South, I give it no more than a decade before worse and more ridiculous things are done in an actual campaign.

2012-08-11 11:42:02 AM
You know those rich Koch brothers? The ones who did all that evil stuff like giving $100 million to Lincoln Center for ballet? The screenwriters want us to think of them. Except they're calling them the "Motch brothers."
They really earned their million-dollar paychecks with that one. I didn't know "Motch" was even a name

This is what I was waiting for, considering a few days ago the Koch brothers were acting all outraged about this movie. No one who drops $100 million into performing arts could possibly being doing anything bad with all the other billions of dollars they have.

And obviously everyone's going to take this movie review seriously, I mean, the guy even calls out the movie makers for using a FAKE name!!!

2012-08-11 11:43:29 AM
It will be the proverbial cold day in hell when I let that a douchebag at The Post influence anything I do, movie choices or otherwise.

I see Will Ferrell is taking the Mike Meyer's career path.

As they say in the south. "Well bless his heart."

2012-08-11 12:03:41 PM
Dropping a $100M on ballet doesn't help anything that needs help.

2012-08-11 12:06:03 PM
I'm going to see this today, because political slapstick humor is something I've never witnessed before.

If the NYPost hates it, I'll probably love it.

2012-08-11 12:07:48 PM
Until a movie comes along that is worse than that Vampires Kiss movie with Nicolas Cage no othsr movie can be refered to as the worst movie ever .

2012-08-11 12:09:58 PM
Saw the movie. Not great but not bad. There were some laughs. Good for a matinee. Zach G was the best part of the film and I guess you really gotta know North Carolina to get some of the jokes.
Not surprised that the Ny Post would get butthurt about it. The main bad guys was a not so veiled hit on the Koch Brothers. Im sure the Murdoch owned Wall street journal is going to follow suit.

Got I hate the NY Post and anyone associated with it. That includes the mouth breathing commuters I see reading it on the train INTO NYC. That means they actually bought or subscribed to it...didn't just pick it up off the seat out of curiosity / boredom.

Having said that, I also have a dull antipathy for both Will Ferrill and Zach Gilifinakis.

This is kind of like watching a Jets / Cowboys superbowl for me.

Kyle Smith is a well known nutbar conservative who often brings up his politics in his reviews.

See, for example, his review for Atlas Shrugged.

The movie was much better than I expected. Nothing amazing but you'll get a lot of laughs out of it. Only spot where the film falls on its ass is basically whenever the Motch brothers are on screen, but the rest of it has a Talladega Nights meets Election sort of vibe.

Battleship had some saving graces though: The Garrison Commander for Ft Belvoir, VA and the old guys (can't find a direct link, but some of them are mentioned as veterans of WWII, Korea, and Vietnam).

No farking clue about the others. And Battleship WAS horrible. I'd rent it, fast forward to the part where they get back to the Mo', watch it there, then turn it off.

New York Post writer doesn't like a movie that mocks the Right, and specifically the Koch brothers? Color me surprised

Movie should be titled

"rednecks are morons"

thats what the writers think is funny

Did you read his review? It mocks more then the right. And if the reviewer is to be believed it does so in a lazy way

If you see the movie as a comment on the South instead of American politics in general, you're just looking for things to get angry about.

It's summertime and it's been super hot out. You try writing comedy in 100-degree weather.

/I assume they wrote the script in a tar-paper shack in a swamp, just like most writers in the South.

It's 85 minutes long? So it's not bad enough that we get a shiatty movie, we get ripped off on the playing time, too?
