The bunny is just a hostage until dad gets his shiat together and fixes up the house.

The town is just acting as the HOA.

North Haven First Selectman Michael Freda said town officials are not trying to take the bunny away from the girl, but are instead trying to get Josh Lidsky to respond to neighbors' complaints about blighted conditions on his property.

In May, town officials inspected the property and asked Lidsky to take several actions, including removing the rabbit hutch, replacing missing siding on his house and repairing an unfinished addition.

They have a shiatty-arse property....

Comply with the law and keep your rabbit...

That rabbit's got a vicious streak a mile wide.

It's a killer!

There's always some farktard that thinks everybody's business is their business.

HOA's and zoning offices are like breeding hotbeds for them.

Clean up your property ya slop! = Problem solved.

Sounds like classy neighbors to have.

There's no way they can go on with this after the publicity and petition.
/but knowing town governments and their ordinances, they probably will

This^

But consider this FTA:
Zoning Enforcement Officer Arthur Hausman issued a cease-and-desist order to the Lidsky family two weeks ago, informing them that they were violating town zoning regulations because their property was smaller than the 2 acres required to keep rabbits and other types of livestock.

Can one pet animal be considered livestock?

Twenty pounds!?! The breed standards for the largest breeds top out at 15 pounds, twenty pounds is beyond obese for a rabbit.

Maybe I missed it, but the article seems to be about the house and lawn being run down, I don't see the picture of this. Surely they wouldn't write an article about something and omit a picture of the main subject of the article?

Yes. Surely this will teach her father as well, that people will harass his daughter to get him to comply instead of doing the worse thing and just taking him to court.

And their family is violating local ordinance.

In May, town officials inspected the property and asked Lidsky to take several actions, including removing the rabbit hutch, replacing missing siding on his house and repairing an unfinished addition.

Lidsky says he's appealing Hausman's order about the rabbit to the town's Zoning Board of Appeals, but he's willing to clean up his yard.

"The whole story is about my daughter and the bunny," Lidsky told the New Haven Register.

This story is bullshiat. The guy is a lazy fark who won't repair his property or even finish an addition he started. The town has likely been fighting him for years about it and now that they have the livestock ordinance to use against him it's their last resort, and he's pushing his daughter out into the spotlight for the tearjerker effect. He knows it'll all go away if he complies with their complaints but he wants to prolong it by calling attention to his kid's rabbit.

Actually they are not rodents, and haven't been classified as such for about 100 years. Lagomorpha is considered its own taxonomic order.

What did the city think would happen if they took a girl's pet away from her? Cities have lots of other ways to force compliance besides taking a child's pet. If they feel so strongly about it, let them arrest dad for noncompliance or reckless endangerment. The city brought this one on itself.
