The Power of Fark(tm) demands this guy be let free. Does the right to put signs all over the place trump the right to a clean, sign-free environment?

2012-08-10 08:01:19 PM
When asked about them, Caputo said, he was, "Cleaning up the neighborhood".

Caputo later added that he was, "Alive, and feeling fine."

I know this story. He took all the signs that weren't on private property. All the other signs you see, on highways, fringe areas of municipal properties, empty lots, medians etc. are all illegal and technically litter.

He will be vindicated.

2012-08-10 08:28:53 PM
If the sings were placed on the public right of way, then he is correct. The signs are considered littering and he is being arrested on false charges. The government can arrest you on any made up charge, it is up to you to hire an attorney and prove your innocence.

And the sign says "No long hair freaky people need not apply"
So I put my hair under my hat and I went in to ask him why
He said you look like a fine outstanding young man I think you'll do
So I took off my hat I said "Imagine that Huh Me working for you"
CHORUS:
Signs Signs Everywhere there's signs
Blocking up the scenery Breaking up my mind
Do this Don't do that Can't you read the sign
And the sign says "Anybody caught trespassing will be shot on sigh"
So I jumped the fence and I yelled at the house
What gives you the right To put up a fence And keep me out
Or to keep Mother Nature in
If God was here He'd tell it to your face Man You're some kind of sinner
CHORUS:
Oh Say now mister Can't you read
You got to have a shirt and tie to get a seat
You can't watch No You can't eat You ain't supposed to be here
And the sign says "You gotto have a membership card just to get inside"
....

Huh

And the sign says "Everybody welcome Come in Kneel down and pray"
But then they passed around a plate at the end of it all
And I didn't have a penny to pay
So I got me a pen and paper And I made up my own little sign
I said Thank you Lord for thinking about me I'm alive and doing fine

2012-08-10 08:36:10 PM
You see, the sign contained a double negative, which invited the sophisticated urbanite to apply for employment, old chap.

Having a corner lot I get offered signs every campaign season. I let them put it in the yard, wait til they drive off, then rip that sucker up and wait for the next one.

Seriously, the wood makes great garden stakes, and the sign itself is usually the perfect size to put under the catch pan when changing a cars oil.

Got maybe fifty or so then pounded them into a buddys front yard. Unfortunately in the days before pocet potato cams so no pics. Everyone but his (now ex) wife thought is was highlarious:)

Never allowed signs on my property here on a big corner lot. Have always wanted to pull up to those corners blanketed in hundreds of signs and throw them all away, except of course this being illegal and extremely wasteful (campaigns will simply post another sign). What a waste of resources, eyesore, and useless politically "active" gesture which reinforces democracy as a popularity contest rather than deciding based on policy.

Of course, just by random chance, 100% of those signs were for Republican politicians.

What an amazing coincidence, that he couldn't find one single Democrat's sign in the three different places he took those signs from.

It can't possibly be legal to use government property (on-ramps etc) for electioneering so the signs have to be treated as a violation of law and should be removed. The people named on the signs should be fined too, but this isn't the bizarro world.

There are other possible charges, like parking illegally or whatever, but theft? No. It's like stealing garbage.

2012-08-10 09:31:15 PM
I drive through Martin County everyday on my way to work and believe you me, this guy was doing us all a favor. The amount of political signage going on right now should be the real crime. Let the guy go is what I say.
