I like how they forget to mention that it wasnt JUST the DVD sales that was the re-birth of The Family Guy but the widely circulated bootlegs on p2p programs that really made people interested again. By the way everyone will hate the new episodes because undoubtedly the new stuff wont be as funny. Everything is better in hindsight

I'd give up the simpsons to have futurama and firefly (yeah, i thought the mechanic girl was hot.. ) back. ah the hypnotoad.. all hail.. kinda like zombo.com but without the zombo and more bent on world domination as opposed to world lethargy.

Awesome!

I know Seth mentioned he may make straight-to-DVD episodes, but this is obviously much better news.

Fox really hates successful, funny shows like Family Guy and Futurama- it takes valuable timeslots away from Joe Millionaire 2 and That 70's Show.

For some weird reason a show that supposedly no one watched and deserved cancellation is one of the best selling DVDs. Hmm. It can't be that their ratings system is a little off.

Watch them destroy the Bernie Mac show next. Great show. Emmy winner. Great cast. Funny as hell. Thirteen different timeslots, all bad.

Stewie Griffin: Well, it's Stewie, but...you can call me "cookie" if you like. Yes, I also answer to "Artemis," "Agent Buckwald" and "Snake." Yes, I rather like "Snake." Snake Griffin.

Dumbed down?

How many Simpsons episodes make a reference to Benjamin Disraeli?

DrSuess - if I remember correctly, that's from a flashback scene that Peter had of a time when he and Quagmire were in the service. Quagmire was naked, looking in the mirror and shaving himself, er, downstairs, then turns to Peter and says "Does this look like a Q to you?"

Peter doesn't say anything and Quagmire shifts his hip and says "How about now?"

hahah good stuff.

Fox Television Entertainment Group chairman Sandy Grushow said a decision is expected soon and called the series a late-blooming phenomenon that may have aired before its time.

ummm.... except for the fact that the ratings were great, and fox yanked it for being too crude (for fox!?) and for the writers disobeying the producers.

read excuse properly as: we though it was too crude for the little rowboat full of money it was making. now that we realize we can make a 60 foot yacht full of money with it, anything goes! woohoo!

hopefully they wont run it to nauseum and let it become half as bad as the simpsons have become.

Peter Griffin is god! Can anyone say Simpsons replacer? Fox is gonna need something to keep the network a float after the simpsons goes off the air.

Here is a 10 page interview with Seth MacFarlane the creator of Family Guy. There are 6 completed scripts for episodes that weren't ever drawn, so if the show is resurrected, you know the first 6 episodes will be as great as the originals.

To quote the old man (who had a thing for Chris as a paperboy) when he saw the nudist kid in the mall walk by:

"Oooh boy, it must be my birthday!"

Heh...greatest show ever. I watched from the pilot on, and got all my friends addicted slowly over time.

My many cents:

1. Yes, Seth MacFarlane did escape death on 9/11 due to a hangover. There's an interview with him on IGN. Pretty informative.

2. I don't understand all these people worshipping the Tick. It had nothing on the animated series. (Why isn't that on DVD?)-- Also, I will admit I never read the Tick comic books.

3.Peter: "I'm so thankful we gave up women thirty years ago. Now I'm going to microwave a bagel and have sex with it."
Quagmire: "Butter's in the fridge!"

They need to stick it right after The Simpsons. I stopped watching it because of all the time slot bumps (hello wednesday, then tuesday, then sunday, then even friday I think!) A few thoughts

I wonder if Seth Green, Milo Kunitz (sp), and Jennifer Tilly (not to mention the guy from seinfeld who played Joe) still want on board. Their respective careers might not have time for it.

Hopefully they dont start pandering to guest stars like the simpsons (thats what i love about family guy, and southpark)

I wonder if cartoon network has any claims to new episodes? I doubt it

roark,

at first, it was norm. subsequent episodes had adam corolla.

2003-11-19 02:06:59 PM
Late blooming episode? Aired befored its time? Why can't these people just confess that they don't know how to run a network. Ratings on their good shows fade because they can't keep it in a regular time slot, and when they keep it in a regular time slot, it keeps getting pre-empted by Footbal games.

Lesson to Fox: Keep the good shows and get rid of the crappy ones.

The "CHA" was carved in one of the early episodes. In a later episdoe, the Tick travels to the moon with astronauts to erase the letters, but screws up an only erases one.

Great news about FG......it'll give Seth something to do besides shiatty stints on Crank Yankers.

Also, how am I the only one that doesn't seem to like Futurama? I have seen at least a half dozen episodes and they never roused more than a minor chuckle....what am I missing? Is it like FLCL in the sense that I need to be high/drunk to appreciately fully?

It seems today, that all you see, is news and sitcoms, and crap on T.V.
But where are those good o'fashion cartoons, on which we use to rely?

Rock on.

Iron Felix:
Actually, IIRC Family Guy was very expensive, and was one of the reasons it was cancelled so early. This article quotes Seth MacFarlane as saying that each episode cost over a million dollars to produce. That's a lot of money. Not sure what they blow it all on, but hey, it's a good show. I believe FG is hand-drawn, which may account for some of it. (Unlike South Park, which is done using Maya (!!!!), although you'd NEVER guess it from the animation quality...)

DrSeuss:
I have a friend who feels the same way. Apparently he likes South Park and the Simpsons because all the characters are good-natured at heart and usually learn something from their experiences, and dislikes Family Guy somewhat because Peter is a complete asshole. Which may be true, but I would think the complete raunchiness, violence and generally disgusting 12-year-old humor of South Park make it quite a bit lower then Family Guy (although I find both funny, don't get me wrong). Keep in mind, he's in his mid-thirties, no wife, no children. I think he may be gay and not know it.

Lastly, I agree with everyone else wanting more Andy Richter Controls the Universe. I have a few episodes downloaded off SuprNova... too funny. And Fox really does need to stop moving shows around. And make this season of 24 not suck.

Anything else we can think of?

Oh, hardcore nudity on Alias. That would be teh win.

2003-11-19 02:17:37 PM
The show got bumped around a lot because it originally aired at the same time as Friends, back when that shight was super popular. I was so sad when they moved it and there was nothing to watch on Thursday nights. Boo fox, horray cartoon network and the internet.

I was flipping channels one day and I saw that Inside the Actors Studio show with that assclown James Lipton and he had on the people who do the voices for the Simpsons characters. According to them its the easiest, least time consuming job ever. I think they said that they can do the voices for 2 or 3 episodes in 3 to 4 hours and they have plenty of time for other projects. As far as the return of the Family Guy voice people go the main thing will be if they want come back in the first place because they may think it'll just be cancelled again quickly because Fox execs are giant douche bags.

You are definitely not alone.

Yes, so far it's you, Superjoe, and one other guy. How many other shows do you know would go 180+ posts with, what, three or four people saying they didn't like it?

Every character on this show is incredible, if not for their dialogue (Stewie, Peter) then for the consistent themes (Meg's constant downtrodden social life, Chris's innocent stupidity). Oh, God, I love it.

You really turned my brown-eye blue with that one!

favorite family guy quote...

"Oh mother! I come to you bearing a gift. I'll give you a hint, it's in my diaper and it's not a toaster." - Stewie

I used to have to watch this alone because no one understood why I found it funny. For me, the focus of the show is Stewie...even if he is starting to look like a sideways Johnny Lemonhead to me now.

2003-11-19 02:23:35 PM
I never was a huge Family Guy fan, but I believe that was because I could never catch it on the telly (much like Futurama, which I loved dearly). And I keep forgetting that they both come on TBS in the afternoons, so I could watch them while working from home. I'm very poor, so I save my money for Lord of the Rings DVDs. :D

Fox should bring back Andy Richter as well.

But the live-action Tick sucked, fellas, let's be honest. The animated version ruled.
