much like booger-eating and playing in the dirt. old news?

fun fact: kids raised on ranches have a hugely lower rate of asthma than kids raised in cities.

He said dogs helped children build up the immune system, giving them exposure to low levels of bacteria and germs.

And there it is right there germaphobes. It's not the dogs per se.

Your immune system needs to workout just like your muscles and cardio systems need to workout to stay strong. Let your kids play in the dirt, play with the dog, or as we used to say in the olden days...let them be kids.

All your helicopter parenting is turning your snowflake into weakling who won't survive the winter.

Yup - this article is a really poor representation of a real study that was done in Germany that showed that exposure to higher amounts of allergens results in lower asthma and allergy rates over the long term.

With this article, however, one could just conclude that people with allergies and asthma adopt less pets and still get the same results shown. Correlation implies causation, but it doesn't make it so. Luckily the article writer happens to be correct.

Everything except the laser pointer and spray bottle. Oh, and vacuums.

In my experience at least. Did once have a hugish cat that would chase dogs out of the yard. His name was Cringer.

I had a cat that tried to to mark his inside territory. I tossed his half drowned ass over the fence and told him to come back when he could be civilized.

He came back about a week later. He's a good kitty now. Still dumber than a bag of hammers but now he pisses in the neighbors yard only.

Yeah. The outside discipline might have worked -- heck, it was working -- if not for the car-chasing issue. It was a rural dirt road, with the associated low traffic, but all it takes is one bad night...

Sigh.
