That's an awesome house. I'd want to live there, if it wasn't in Iowa.

Romney, you are a complete dumb-ass. You've got the entire state of Iwoa to hunt from, nothing but flyover and farms as far as the eye can see. And to show how in touch you are with the common man, you pick the guy with this house:

thinkprogress.org

Turns out subby wasn't exaggerating. The guy gets 130K from the federal government to NOT grow crops.

I mean, damn. Even your friends who don't do their jobs get paid three to four times more than most people for doing theirs.

He wants to see how the average family farmer lives, and check to see if they have a refrigerator. It's not like the guy is wealthy. I mean, no elevator for his car? The guy probably has to use one of those elevators you stand up in, just like people in the projects.

To be fair, that's what Romney considers a guest house.

Romney only earned $100,000/year for not working; he was just there for negotiating advice.

Any bets on how loud this "farmer" screams.. "Smaller gov'ment!".

Of course, giving advice is work for Management Consultants, which is Romney's profession.

I live in Cedar Rapids. I can drive 10 miles and find a real farmer. A family farm. There are a lot of farmers hurting this year due to the drought, but this guy isn't one of them. I'm not saying he won't lose money on his crops this year, but he won't be taking a part time job this winter and going on welfare like thousands of farmers who aren't millionaire real estate developers

2012-08-10 02:21:15 PM
That has to literally be the most ostentatious house in the entire state of Iowa.

I am reminded of the words of my grandfather, an actual farmer, who said, "When someone shows you who they really are, believe them and never forget it."

Romney routinely associates with nothing but the wealthy, insults, openly and to their faces, average people and just does not seem to give a toss about any of it.

Seriously?

What you have here is a guy worth a quarter of a billion dollars out 'roughing it' with another millionaire 'farmer' trying his damnedest to sell himself as just another everyday regular guy, and you can't take that situation and apply the quote to it and ascertain what it could possibly mean?

I'd be careful if I was Romney. If there's anyone capable of hunting him down, it's Adelson and Rove.

I can see how that might be a possibility. I mean think about it - Romney is either so completely and massively out of touch with the mood on the streets that he really is clueless as to how things like this look to the rest of us...or he's doing it on f*cking purpose. And if he's doing it on purpose then you'd have to figure he's playing SOME sort of angle.

He's deliberately lowering expectations for the 2016 nominee. The right will be ecstatic that it's not Romney.

Romney doesn't strike me as a 'take one for the team' kinda guy. no, if Romney is playing an angle and deliberately throwing the election then he's doing it for a direct and personal benefit of some sort.

Perhaps the RNC offered him something, like a spot in the administration after 2016. It's also possible Romney's not doing it on purpose, but his weaknesses and the timing make it the perfect opportunity for the RNC to use him to do it.

Here's further description of the house. It has an elevator. And a 4,000 square foot party room. Of all the farmers in Iowa, he had to choose this one.

"Lemar Koethe, elevated 16-sided house, 4 levels including garage, internal 3-story elevator w/winding stairway around it, built to withstand F5 tornado, 6,000 sq ft garage, 1,000 sq ft front entrance, 4,000 sq ft party room, 4,000 sq ft 3rd level w/2,200 sq ft balcony all the way around, 150 sq ft cupola."
