With the money available in this election cycle I hold no hope that local races will not be bought by Super PACs, irregardless of how insane the candidates are.

It is an essential tenet of our whole representative form of government, the idea that there should not be some tyranny which makes it so nobody can even have a chance to vote. - Todd Akin

Hey, this guy sounds like a RINO!

I disagree. If the teahadists keep the Republican party from controlling the Senate and White House, then they serve a valuable public service.

That's too bad.
I was hoping to be brought back to the good old days of UP OR DOWN VOTE!!!!! trumpeted on Fox News 24/7 and threats of a "nukular option" with the spineless Democrats capitulating. Instead it will be Turtle Boy and friends continuing to obstruct.

Tea partiers have two potential uses and two potential uses only.

1) as a non-renewable energy resource
2) medical experimentation

the problem with the latter is that the results don't always reliably translate to a human population

That was during the GOP primary runoff, though, where he and Dewhurst were trying to outderp each other. Now he's up against a Democrat, Paul Sadler, who is a former trial lawyer, and therefore somewhere to the left of Lenin.

I hope the race is somewhat competitive, at least.

Money going to local races (i.e. congressional and senate races, maybe "local races" was the wrong word) to buy ads for candidates that do not have as much public exposure as a presidential race would be more effective in turning the tide for a specific candidate. Presumably more money from Super PACs are going to Republican candidates, just a guess though.

Maybe this has nothing to do with the article, dunno, didn't read it. Just wanted an excuse to put up a picture of Super Pac-Man.

They sure know how to pick em. Amazing the only thing they learned from the flops of Angle, McMahon, and O'Donnell is don't run a woman.

It's just a House race, but they've poured at least a million into Oregon District 4 so far. Granted, the guy they are backing lost to Defazio in 2010 by 11%, and Defazio will benefit from the downticket bump Obama will give him.

I wonder if it'll be 15% this time...

I don't think Tea Partiers qualify as "conservative," not in any classic sense. Howwever, they do qualify as freaking insane. And if they cost the GOP its majority, fair enough. Lie down with swine, get up with swine flu.

Our system is based on the idea of rational, informed representatives with diverse backgrounds, experiences, ideas and beliefs coming together to discuss issues based on a common set of facts and reaching rational compromises which benefit the country as a whole.

The problem with the "vote the bums out" sentiment is that we are getting more representatives who are bomb-throwers, pig-heads and ideologues. In fact, the very idea of compromise has been a liability in elections this year and in 2010. We have representatives now who have "scorched earth" as policy platforms. Representatives who openly scoff at the idea of compromise.

The net result is an even more dysfunctional government. That is all the Tea Party have achieved, and maybe more Americans are starting to realize that, hopefully.

No, it really is impossible...

....UNLESS the DNC decides to dump a good amount of money into the race to illustrate to every Texan who doesn't have his head up his ass that Ted Cruz is (1) an idiot, (2) insane, and (3) a total farking asshole. But it will take a Herculean effort to pull that off.

Yes. this is the Thaddeus McCotter's old district. Heavily republican, but primary winners are a exteme taebagger. democratic primary winner is Syed Taz, a muslim. I think he is still trailing, but as leople get to know the teabagger, he will have a chance.
