This article is fake. Schools are gun free zones by law so something like this could never happen. Amirite? If we make enough rules society will one day be perfect.

Was the skull cap being worn? A Beretta-shaped bulge coming out of your head sounds sub-optimal.

DeKalb County police are searching for a man who brought a loaded gun to a high school campus just days before the start of school year.

Is that even illegal in GA? I mean what if you are walking into the Chemistry Lab just as a ten point buck emerges from the supply closet?

How can you possibly know if a gun is loaded just by looking at it? You can't.

I understand the government's urge to pass new laws to totally disarm the population (it worked for the Shoguns) but good grief, how many shooting do they really need to sponsor? We get it already!

Hey, in the NRA's view the shifty guy with a pistol wrapped in his skullcap was just another American Citizen helping to insure the safety of his fellow high school visitors. If that high school had a few more just like him, they'd only be safer.

And for that principal to abuse the power of government and simply take that man's legally owned, personal property? Shameful.

By that logic, I am guessing we should allow Iran to have nuclear weapons too. They'll just make them anyway, and besides, if everyone is armed we are all safer, right? RIGHT?

Overly-defensive much? Laws don't prevent people from doing things. Laws set up consequences for people who do things that 99% of us already know we shouldn't do. The reason we have to keep making "more laws" is because some moran goes off and does something stupid, we find out there's no law against it, then the whargarbl-machine kicks into reverse about "whar law whar?"

A society with too many laws is inconvenient and sometimes counter-intuitive. A society without laws isn't a society.

I went to one of those insane prep high schools that prides itself on sending people on to Ivies. (I didn't.) Sophomore year, on the due date of a particularly large project (one of two that year), I jokingly mentioned to my friends that if I didn't get an A, I'd "freakin' shoot somebody."

Two weeks later, I get pulled into the Headmaster's office, and he sits me down to explain that another student overheard my comment, and was concerned for their safety at school. Since SOME sort of punishment had to be handed down, I got sent home for a "half day out of school suspension".

When I arrived at home, my mom was understandably confused why I wasn't still at school. When I explained the situation, she called the school back, ABSOLUTELY LIVID over "the fact that there was (according to you) an obvious and immediate threat to the safety of students at the school (one that was serious enough to REQUIRE punishment), but you DID NOTHING about it for TWO WEEKS."

I got to stay home and play video games. My parents weren't upset with me at all.

We are looking at this gun problem (And I go on record as saying everybody oughta have one...) the wrong way. It ain't the guns at all, it's the bullets. If'n we register to buy bullets, we will stem the 'shoot-em-up' brigade. Yes, old bullets will still be out there, but with all the target shooting these guys do to maintain their erections, they'll need to buy new soon enuf.

The trick is to develop a marker that can be detected as exclusively for bullets. If all law-abiding citixens turn in their old bullets for 'marked' bullets. the gunnuts will have no source for unmarked ones, and we can set up detedtors in no-gun areas to find the illegal (and prolly dangerous) gunnuts.

'Til then, know that law enforcement is NOT gonna do you a bit of good when the crazy is packin' heat. A gun is your only true protection. Just don't shoot until you are sure it's a gunnut and not an antique collector. Mostly, the gunnuts are pulling the trigger.

/Oh, And aim for the body, The blood will leave an identifier and a trail.
//If you ain't willin' to shoot, don't buy the gun. Wavin' it in the air only makes you a target

The logic beyond metal detectors is silly. If you force a potential shooter into a situation where he'll be forced to reveal that he's going to gun everybody down at some point later in the day, why wouldn't he just start his shooting rampage at the metal detectors?

Actually it's the fingers.

Think about it, shootings, stabbings, bludgeonings, stranglings...

All these and more could be prevented if we simply confiscated all fingers.

Because when I think of safety, I think of a room full of paranoid, trigger-happy amateur hero-wannabes.

And someone who would go on a shooting spree would not necessarily be intimidated by the prospect of getting hurt or killed.

Sure, gun control laws may or may not stop criminals... but having everyone walk around packin' is not going to make things any better either. Maybe we should stop obsessing over the gun part of the problem and focus more on the causal/motivational part of the problem instead?

If you disable the metal detector by shooting it you could and walk right in, and no one would be the wiser.

One thing's for sure - if someone is willing to sacrifice their own life to do harm - NOTHING can stop them. Not laws, not metal detectors - not a roomfull of guys with guns. Nothing.

If their weapon is a firearm, a "roomfull of guys with guns" can certainly mitigate the damage they can cause.
