Ughhhhhh Hungarian homebrew :P I drink far too much pear polenka and plum brandy at work when the Hungarians come to camp. Some of it is really really good, especially the pear polenka... but it is all 100+ proof and served (forced) upon you from sunrise to sunset.

I have an uncle (who still lives in Hungary) who makes his own plum and apricot brandies. Hmmm, Brandy seems like such a weak word for what he makes... He first makes wine out of the apricots and plums, then triple-distills the wine. 100 proof seems like that would be on the low side. From how it burns going down your throat (and how it burns when you put a match to it), 150ish seems more like it. It's nice and sweet tasting, but feels like you're drinking lava when it hits your throat.

\"Oh don't give me none more of that Old Janx Spirit/ No, don't you give me none more of that Old Janx Spirit/ For my head will fly, my tongue will lie, my eyes will fry and I may die/ Won't you pour me one more of that sinful Old Janx Spirit"

Slivovitz!
The worlds most multifunctional drink:
You can drink it
Clean your wounds
Clean your tools
And have a Mig21 use it as fuel and ordnance

I looked at the pic, seems to be the right lane to me. What's the problem?
Seriously though, looking at an English road with someone going down the right lane in the wrong direction is a bit of a mindfark when used to driving in the US.

Well, he'll have no problem making high-octane pruno.

"One?" replied Henry, "You've got to be kidding me. I see at least a hundred!"

Pro tip: drink it very cold. Best to keep it in the freezer (no it won't freeze).

I got drunk last weekend drinking my uncle's pálinka. The one he brew from peach was very soft and didn't burn at all but drinking the one he made of plum was like drinking fire and it also had a very strong aftertaste. Both of them was 50% strong and he explained the difference is that you have to be an expert to know how to set up the instruments and when to start collecting the stuff. If you don't pay attention (or have bad luck), it will burn.

That's good stuff. Never had a hangover from it. Zwack, the maker of Unicum, also makes very good pálinka. Try it if you can. And if you like herbal flavored brandies, you should also try Zwack's Hubertus.

For the lulz, here's the historical, traditional poster for Unicum. I never understood it.

He lives in Cegléd, less than an hour from Pécel. Why?

It was a good thing that the driver had a copy Alexander Yahlt's Hungarian-to-English Phrase book with him.

Am I seriously in before the Truck driver from Eurotrip?

I have been driving for 14 hours straight and I haven't slept in three days and I am wired on schnapps, benzedrine, and those little chocolate covered peanuts.

My uncle lives in Pecel, along with a good chunk of my extended family. I just wanted to see if we were speaking about the same person. :)

I have... it's not fun, can't stand the smell ever since, even 10 years later!
