Really? A guy grabbing a smoke whilst on a break? OK, perhaps he should have found a spot on the downwind side of the vessel, but get a grip. BTW, what are the regs about smoking on a vessel?

A mother, her friend and two children were left fuming on a Toronto ferry when a crewman lit up and filled the air with cigarette smoke.

FILLED ALL THE AIR IN EXISTENCE WITH SMOKE!

seriously the dude is smoking outside just chilling. sometimes people complain just to start trouble. too bad it isn't like the olden days where you could just tell them to shut up or you'd make em walk the plank...or something.

When I started to read TFA, the picture showed the guy smoking, so of course he must have been doing so near flammable materials. Nope. Just smoking. Complainant is just an asshat, who no doubt will sue the city and attempt to get millions for this.

Meanwhile, this guy will likely get fired. What he did was against policy, and probably not the brightest move ever, but should it cost him his job? No.

"when the children complained about smelling cigarette smoke."

The poor children. Did they make throw-up noises, wrinkle their pert little noses, or perhaps hold them and say, "PEWWW," like Mommy does, whenever she smells smoke--anywhere, anytime, no matter how diluted it is?

I hope Mommy gets them some counseling to help deal with this traumatic experience. She could probably use a few sessions herself.

You're full of shiat, anyhow. Was just a complaint, feel free to say I told you so when she files a lawsuit, but she won't. That said, she sure sounds butthurt - I smoke on the ferry sometimes, it's just about finding the right spot.

Was he near the SMOKESTACK? Seriously, unless it's an electric ferry, the boat they were on was pumping out fumes far more offensive and deadly, and in vastly larger quantities.

Why report it properly when you can get your name in the paper? Getting your name in the paper shows genuine concern for the situation.

right?

My favorite story about a smoker is the one about the American at CDG airport in Paris telling a Frenchman who is smoking that he is violating the law. To which the Frenchman asks, "Are you the police?" and keeps smoking.

Not a smoker and wouldn't care if this crewmember was doing this.

I was expecting to read about someone molesting a child or throwing people overboard. This woman make a big stink about a guy catching a smoke. What a total c word biatch. "I'd like to ride the ferry again," she said. Well I'd think twice before I did if I were her.

I no longer smoke, don't like people smoking in my house or near me in a restaurant etc, but I have no problem with anyone smoking out doors. And I hate people who are always on a 24/7 anti smoking campaign. Like this guy who regularly waits at the same bus stop as I do and he's always hollering at people about smoking at the bus stop. I can't wait for the day when someone cock punches the prick.

I live in a place that prohibits smoking in the workplace, any workplace. I'm a supervisor in a 300,000 square foot manufacturing facility where most workers are at least 100 feet from each other. I feel like a moron enforcing the no smoking policy, especially since there's a dozen more risks to a workers health than the guy smoking nowhere near anybody else.

Every time I've taken that ferry there are a number of passengers smoking on the downwind rail, so unless this guy was puffing away in the cabin or being a dick about blowing smoke upwind of people I don't see the issue.

2012-08-10 07:45:51 AM
Clearly the use of deadly force was warranted to prevent this clear and immediate danger to the entirety of the human race. Waiting until they were in dock was irresponsible and could have cost billions of lives.

The man in that article made me so outraged that my head started shaking. Then my nose started bleeding. Then quarters began shooting out of the payphone beside me. Then the Delta check-in station caught on fire. Then the planes on the runway began exploding. Then the entire city went up it flames.

IT'S HAPPENING AGAIN!

2012-08-10 07:46:46 AM
Judging by the fact that the officials in the article wont release the guys name, and describe him as a long term employee, im going to assume they are being reasonable and are just going to slap him on the wrist. At least, I hope so.

I just LOVE when the woman is quoted as saying "he's taking his job for granted". biatch, wtf do you do for a living besides spit out babies and biatch to news papers?

Alright. I understand that smoking is a completely disgusting habit... and that's coming from a smoker myself. But seriously? This is making news? Look the only story here is if there was some sort of smoking ban on the boat. Which is a pretty lame ass story. "Man smokes in no smoking area!" OoOOoooOoo!

The fact that it was a boat makes it even less interesting. If this was a restaurant worker, taking a five minute break to smoke it up at an empty table, then at least you have the problem of a confined place while people are eating. In the open air on a moving boat, the potency of the smoke would be less damaging then a farking car passing you waking down the street.

Yeah if there was a No Smoking policy on the boat, then the dudes a farkwit, but it's not exactly worth an article, you know?
