The ford nucleon was hands down the craziest car idea of all time.

Well the gt90 ended morphing into the GT and besides most of that car was stolen from the xj220, which was a piece of shiat but some collectors still love it.

List is missing '89 Voyager III, a van that had a detachable cab. Unlike most of the cars on this list, they actually made one of these, and the one time I went to the Auto Show was the year they were showing it, totally cool.

I don't think one should be allowed to call anything a concept "car" unless one actually exists. Until then, it's just a concept design. Seeing a CG insertion into a sunset scene is hardly worthy of being called a car.

Yeah, any yahoo who has figured out 3D rendering can make a model, but to actually build a functioning model is an entirely different thing.

CSB time...

My wife works at University of Utah in the Metallurgical Engineering School. This summer, my youngest stepson was supposed to go in and kind of volunteer at the lab, but schedules never sync'd up. They had a brand new 3D printer and figured he could be the one to get the test it out and figure out how everything worked. I'm hoping now that school is starting up he'll still be able to go in on a weekend or something, so I can accompany him and play with the damn thing. I don't see how it couldn't be fun in every way possible. :-)

Some of the design language showed up in the 94-98 SN95, but it really showcased the engine technology that Ford would use later on (the modular motors with twin-screw intercooled superchargers).

One of the most fun parts of that game is learning to kill bad guys by making a car's old reactor explode

Do you know what annoys me with concept cars?

These companies will go to all the trouble to design fresh new ideas, and even mold some into actual vehicles. Some are strange and some are stupid, yes. But now and then they produce something that looks futuristic, sexy, and even possibly downright want worthy.

After which the company will quickly proceed to....

NEVER EVER BUILD A FARKING THING THAT EVEN LOOKS LIKE IT.

Usually for a multitude of reasons, the robots couldn't be tooled to manipulate the parts being a big one. The other major reason concept cars remain concept cars is... legislation.

But both of those pale in to comparison to the plain and simple fact that whilst you or I would be interested in buying a cool concept car made real... the majority of people wouldn't. Even if were street legal and the robots could be tooled to do it... they'd not sell enough of them.

Partly but bits and bobs like it needing to cushion an impact with a human (the reason why you have no pop up headlights any more), distance between wheel arch and tyre and other assorted bollocks; true aftermarket you can alter that one but the manu still has to follow the regs so the machine can be sold.

Sure. But do you think that it's a Star Trek replicator or just a tool to make prototype shapes?
