Rhudisa, not from Rhodesia, but a Masai from Kenya, wins the gold in the 800 meters.

Wow.

2012-08-09 09:01:44 PM
The eighth place finishers time would've been fast enough for gold in Beijing....

And the third place runner just set the world junior record, and all top three finishers finished with times that are among the ten fastest times ever run in the 800.

How so? Nothing about my post spoiled the race for anyone. I didn't mention the World Record falling, the winner, or anything else except that they all did well and hey, nobody died during the race.

The triple jump is just confusing. I don't understand why this exists.

Next time, be ambiguous and leave open the possibility that someone died.

I wonder if humanity will break 1:40 in the 800m. That's two back to back sub 50 laps. Incredible. I know Kipketer's record stood for a lot of years though...it's gonna be a special individual that does it. But Rudisha just might if he stays healthy.

most people couldn't run one 100m in 12.5 seconds

I think a lot of athletes do several events, especially in the high school/college level, and if you happen to be good at one of the "lesser" events like triple jump, you just may find yourself at the Olympics.

Well it's do well in high school, do well in college then Olympics. American triple jumpers come from all over when it comes to colleges. Arkansas used to be the place to go but that's no longer the case.

Because you just had to let out a little information and then behind the guise of BUT I DIDN'T GIVE ANYTHING AWAY. Why?? Do you feel speical now?? Like the first person to disseminate that information?? You're like a child who sees how close he can get his hand to the stove without burning it. Want to say it's gonna be a great race?? Cool. But don't give away specifics.

Jumpers tend to specialize early. Not because of need but because it's just what they want to do. You do find a lot of sprinter and long jumper combos in high school, also some who also do the triple jump. In college you find a handful of sprinters and long jumpers, but at the college level triple jumpers are pretty much just triple jumpers unless they also do the long jump, like Claye.

I was a triple jumper in high school.

So I am really getting a kick out of most of these replies.

Some of you guys are very good at making it sound like you know what you are talking about.

But trust me.... You don't.

I think you just want to make yourself sound smart, when in reality you dont know what you are talking about.

This is how bad info gets passed around.

If you dont know about the topic....Dont make yourself sound like you do.

Cuz some Farkers belive anything they hear.

not to seem super american jingo, but i kind of would like to see more of the women's soccer or women's water polo or women's volleyball (which they just jumped to part way) where an american team is playing for a medal. skipping the first part of this match to show some (i guess) nice diving from the chinese girl and a bunch of bad diving from everyone else would be cool during the day, but i only get primetime on a day like this (working all day.) I want to see at least medal matches, not qualifiers, unless the US is going to at least be in the final match
