They really have a guy releasing and pulling back up the dive cam manually?
...how is that not automated?

robodog: What I can't believe is they talk about platform being a young persons sport but don't explain why. It's because your brains turned to mush by hitting the water head first so many times.

you noticed they never explained it too?

Well, we're in commercial, so...Enjoy, pretty amazing

So what have I missed so far? I saw some biatching about NBC decathlon coverage (they covered most of that during the day time live). Ummm anything else?

BTW, 10M platform dives are scary as shiat to me. I went head first once. ONCE. Also jumped into a quarry from about 70 ft, feet first and nearly broke my ankles. My feet were sore for weeks.

Nobody answered my question. In Womens wrestling did they use mud or Jello?

I dont see why they can't just make this a foot first entry. Sport wouldn't change much.

Actually there were dives that were completed foot first in the past, but they fell by the wayside, think the last one anyone did was in the 80s.

So the Aussie just started diving five years ago. So much for the idea you have to start young to be good.

I think I finally figured out what annoys me about the woman diving announcer. There's a vague Southern-ish twang to her voice. It's subtle enough to not be able to block out subconsciously.

I think Chen should just do a cannonball for her last dive, just because.

It's technically an inward six and a half somersault, which is probably best done from a 20 m platform

I'm so impressed that Malaysian woman interviewed in English. It was heart-warming despite the mouth-breather who interviewed her.

His phone must be blowing up right now; hope he remembered to silence it for the night. Pau, too, I suppose. At least no one on an Olympic roster is going to wake up to news they were traded...

It comes and goes. For a couple sentences she'll sound essentially "accent-less"* but then she's only a breath short of telling that poor diver to bless her heart for joining in that little 'ol splashfest.

/*Accent-less to US Americans, of course

Iggy is over there, and Doug Collins is doing commentary for NBC. That going to be awkward.

Don't know if it's been discussed yet, but I'll ask:

What's with the remote controlled cars that are buzzing around the infield of the track between events?

Over_Zealously_Apathetic: I'm so impressed that Malaysian woman interviewed in English. It was heart-warming despite the mouth-breather who interviewed her.

from wikipedia.

English remains an active second language, and serves as the medium of instruction for maths and sciences in all public schools.

It's interesting to me that more unusually tall people like bolt don't compete in (running) track events. It would seem that they'd be really good at it, considering stride length and all, especially for sprinters. I remember running at FSU against this English guy named Luke Beevor who was like 6'10" or something ridiculous, and he was pretty damn quick because of his gargantuan strides. Ran like a low 14s 5000m or something.

Cheesehead_Dave: What's with the remote controlled cars that are buzzing around the infield of the track between events?

they're painted like mini's and they carry the gear (shotputs, discus, etc) back to the start.

OK, so I had to walk the dog...the 200m hasn't been shown yet, right?

Announcers at a track meet wearing track suits is not good for TV reporting. Just put on a polo and khakis guys. Forget the track jacket. If you are cold wear anything else but a warmup jacket.

NBC makes me sad. :(

good for her! but then again I think a lot of folks in South East Asia are relatively fluent in english... I know in Singapore they are!

In this country, a guy that big and fast would have a football in his hands by the time he hit middle school. Not as much glory in track as in other countries.

The guy behind the blocks is thrilled that Bolt interacted with him. Beaming.

tlchwi02: 10 feet per stride, holy crap

Eh, I'm a horrible runner, but being 6'6" allows me to take massive strides to cover ground better. I remember playing football and taking three to four strides to cover ten yards at full run. I think they are blowing the length of his stride out of proportion. He's tall with long legs, as long as he runs halfway right he is obviously going to cover a lot more ground with each stride.

2012-08-09 10:59:49 PM
I hope the bit of fuzz flies off his head. (bolt)

Poor Iggy, no one ever cares about him even though he is a semidecent player.

Here we go, 200m time

Until Bolt showed up on the scene four years ago, every coach you asked would've told you that there's no way someone 6'5" could be a world class sprinter.

msupf: I think they are blowing the length of his stride out of proportion.

In the 200 he takes about 14 steps less than the other runners do.

Earguy: The guy behind the blocks is thrilled that Bolt interacted with him. Beaming.

that's part of what makes Bolt so awesome
