Don't know how people can think that's acceptable. The kittens in the article are so cute and so adoptable.

We have 10 cats living in our house; 3 are rescues, 3 are a momma cat and 2 of her 4 kittens (2 were adopted out to a good home) found in our back yard, 3 are ex barn cats inherited from our older son and one was found discarded behind a restaurant. It's waaaaay to many for our little house, but what's to be done? Better too many than they be abandoned to die slowly.

Stepping off my pulpit.

Saturday night/Sunday am (it was right around midnight). Lying in bed watching TV with the kitties, nice storm going outside. Next thing I know BBBBBBBBBBZAAPPPPPPPPPPP! and everything goes dark. Find the flashlight and trip the breakers. No biggie, I figured a transformer got hit. Next thing I know, 3 fire trucks and a rescue unit are in the parking lot. Yep, the building was hit by lightning. Blew up my thermostat, a TV, a DVD player, and the internet port on my computer (just got back online last night). Needless to say, didn't sleep much. Not sure on structural damage, just damn lucky didn't catch fire.

Now Sunday is spay/neuter day at the rescue. We're finishing up and I'm coming back out to get the last kitten when the vet is like, something is wrong with Jordyn. Apparently our little tortie was a MALE! No one believed us until they say what had been his *ahem* man parts.
Needless to say, it was a very weird weekend!

And here's Jordy

Happy Caturday, everyone! I hope this was a good/better week!

Re: the story; this burns me up. You just KNOW those kittens were raised by someone; they wouldn't have been so friendly otherwise. And then they were just dumped like that. Sigh. People.

...and, a cat....

Happy for Caturday! Yay for those adorable kittehs!! I hope the d-bag that did that dies a slow painful death for abandoning them...

Should be a pretty quiet weekend for me. Got more injections today (mid & low back) - not looking forward to the injection pain I'll deal with for the next 2-3 days, but hopeful that after that my back pain will decrease. Was also put on some muscle relaxants (low-dose) to see if they will help. So very frustrated, but trying to remain hopeful. Go back in a month to report and possibly have more injections done.

Really need to get pics uploaded to the computator.....

Evening, all! It's Caturday, there's a football game on and I only have one day left of work this week - life is good! Now if only Cracker Jack wanted anything to do with me other than begging me for food and/or kicking me in the butt when I'm trying to go to sleep.

Kevin Boehm brought this on an unrecorded date.
We just got back home, in the rain, from a planning mtg for the update (badly/sadly/looong needed) of my chorus's website. Plumbicon is Webmaster for it & a passel more sites -- he hasn't enough to do. Now I got 2 editing cats hovering wishing to help; Ginger's actually getting in my way & not helping. Stripe has a bit to learn along those lines. Oh good, now Ginger's wandering off! So I may get to finnish this, then copy my notes from the mtg for the PR/Mktg chair who actually ran said mtg.
Update's her project!!!
One thing learnt in mtg; am allowed to center pix but not text, makes it way too hard to read. My regrets for giving all y'all headaches for rather a while.

Sorry about your lightening strike/power surge! We had that happen several years ago. It blew our $200+ surge protector, our vcr and our telephones. We replaced the surge protector with an even better one after that.

Interesting story about the kitty! Jordy is absolutely adorable, even if he is a boy. We won't hold that against him! ;D

Yay!! Caturday!!

It is very rare but it is possible for a male cat to get two X chromosomes along with one Y chromosome.

People who abandon kittens suck. It's illegal but catching the basturds isn't easy.
I get abandoned cats and kittens all the time, usually found in boxes or loose, never in a backpack.

Recently a woman told me their husband was going to work in the am, backing out of his driveway and saw a box in the way. He got out to move the box and it wiggled. The box was taped up with a couple holes poked in it. He opened the box and in it was a nice friendly orange cat! They took him in, like they do the other cats dumped in front of their house, and try to find them homes. They live on a back road on a farm, so they're used to finding new cats. But never in a box before. She said luckily it's light out in the morning now when her husband goes to work. In the winter it's dark, he might not have seen the box and run it over.

Here's the cat from the box. Nice kitty, lucky to be alive!

Hi, folks.. long day at work.. but things are getting accomplished.. talked to my fostering lady today.. 'Fighter' is doing well.. eyes are open, he is nomming on baby food. and they are working on the litter box routine.. prognosis is better.. mommacat gets spayed next Wednesday.. she seems to be nibbling on the dry food some.. don't have the heart to just cut her off on the people food.. what she gets of that has been reduced greatly.. she has slimmed down somewhat, but is obviously not starving...
Hope BBBB's situation has improved.. feel so sad that some of you have to deal with medical issues and the pain and aches that follow.. hope you get well soon... prayers are out for you...
Sounds like the lightning hit an air conditioning unit.. maybe on the roof? direct route to the thermostat.. and back to the electrical panel.. it usually has an effect on the AC compressor, but not always... did a backup generator in 2007.. and there are lightning arrestors on everything ! Also have a commercial style surge protector feeding the electronics circuit.. with a large UPS covering everything.. 10 minute battery life if it's all running.. but the generator is up in 20 seconds... so no problems.. got tired of rebooting everything whenever there was a blink..... some laziness is allowed..
A local company made some ice cream with our Blackberry Wit... pretty good stuff.. and Rachel, our assistant brewer and major asset to the company, decided to try making an ice cream float with the aforementioned brew.. floats became very popular quickly...makes me wish I liked beer, which I don't.. it is an acquired taste, as is wine, and a lot of other things... out of two parents and three siblings, I get the weird taste buds.... oh, well.. could be worse... hope Alien comes to visit this weekend.. and did Puce Guardian get the 'scope fixed? BBT....

Transcribing of my illegible notes finnished, more of a challenge than doing the magazine every other month for the gal in Salt Lake. At least that's already typed & doesn't need deciphered.
Was 99.44% sure I'd seen this before, out in the open. Care2Causes might've/almost must've picked it up from the Daily Mule. Got many many more .jpgs & .gifs than .docs in the G drive where all my cat stuff now is, may not be that hard to find -- But Not Tonight!

While rare, male torties do exist as young Jordyn has proved. Or maybe that's formerly-male torties ...
Don't have to get up at usual so-called decent hour but likely will. Chunks get taken out of both Sat & Sun; Sat for an amateur radio dealie for our local club. I've already printed 50 more of the local rag to give away, need to see if I can find a leaflet or leaflet-able thingie on YLRL website for them. & Sun for a sing at one of 3 Florence KY public libraries, to be followed by chorus pic-a-nic at director's sister's place nearby.
We should all sleep well with the light rain falling, methinx. zzzzzzzz....

We have a new litter of kittens and their momma. I hope Cretinbob takes a lot of photos of these little ones to show all of you. Momma cat named Sylvia, has lots of extra toes and so do her kittens. Very adorable litter, all orange or cream kittens, with big feet filled with toes.

Every time we take in cats and kittens, we never know what we'll wind up with. Usually it's basic stuff like worms, fleas, goopy eyes or colds.

One of the kittens in this litter arrived with an open sore in it's genital area. First thought it was a small cut that got infected or some sort of deformity. I took the kitten to the vet to be checked, while he was ready to look at the sore, the vet tech asked it there was a maggot in there. Many times kittens found outside will have maggots in wounds. The vet took the tweezers and instead of a maggot, he pulled out a huge cuterebra warble!! It was gross looking. The cuterebra fly larva likes to bury under the skin in animals, leaving a little airhole while it matures.

Now the warble has been removed, the kitten is healing nicely.

I didn't take a photo of the thing that was removed, but if you want to Google cuterebra warble, you'll see what they are.
This is what the kitten looked like before it was removed. All that swelling was the parasite under the skin.

Hello everybodeee!

 ^-^
='.'=

Earlier this week D'Artagnan came meowing into the house...surprised me he could meow so clearly, seeing as how he had a dead bird clamped in his mighty jaws.
I hope it was a 'wild' bird, but it looked like one of the canaries one sees in pet stores; beautiful little bird with a bright yellow breast, 'seed-eater' beak, and black/brown sparrow-like markings on its back.
Hope it wasn't somebody's pet that had gotten loose...:(

D'Artagnan was very proud of himself. I praised him, told him what a fine, clever hunter he was and that I was so proud of him (then I got rid of the ex-bird).
Later he jumped up on my lap and wanted cuddles for about 20 minutes, which is unusual for him.

Hope he comes in soon; I've got a treat for him. I found out Taco Bell (which he and Riktor really like) will sell a side order of beef for sixty cents. D'Artagnan is a strange cat...doesn't care for cat gushyfud (even the fancy TemptationsTM in various 'sauces' that the other cats LOVE), but human food? Now you're talkin' his language! Pizza? Bring it ON, crust and all! Don't forget the mushrooms, he really enjoys them.

I don't think he's quite at Dragon's level of 'prefers his spicy chicken-wings HOT, thank you'...but he LOVES chili or anything I've made involving chili powder.

YES, I am careful not to give him onions or garlic...the little gourmand would eat them if I left them in.

Thinking about after the after part where Kitty feels better is my anti-woozy defense. Works most of the time.

I wouldn't worry too much about the bird possibly having been someone's pet. There are several different kinds of small wild birds all over the US and Canada, such as finches and warblers, that are brilliant yellow with features like you describe. Doesn't make it any less unpleasant for it to be eaten by a cat though. :(

Anyway, it must feel nice to know D'Artagnan holds you in such high regard -- such an exquisite gift to bestow upon you! :)

He's beautiful to look at, and so bad at the vet that they won't deal with him directly. When I have to leave him and then pick him up - they make me go to the cage to get him into the carrier. 17 pounds of asshole, and non of it fat.

I didn't take a photo of the thing that was removed, but if you want to Google cuterebra warble, you'll see what they are.
This is what the kitten looked like before it was removed. All that swelling was the parasite under the skin.

For the love of Christ, I hope you get banned :) You couldn't at least post a picture of that poor creature's face?

I've posted worst photos before! But don't worry, faces and toes will be posted soon.

Waiting!

Lsherm: Found a good pic of the asshole cat who bit his sister's butt (the background looks fake because it's a window screen looking out on our yard):

He's beautiful to look at, and so bad at the vet that they won't deal with him directly. When I have to leave him and then pick him up - they make me go to the cage to get him into the carrier. 17 pounds of asshole, and non of it fat.

/love him anyway
//in that picture he's about to fark with the white cat in the previous picture.
///he's an asshole cat.

He's a handsome asshole. :-D

He challenges that assumption with a bite pose:

Saved on unrecorded date as professional_vampire's next tat. Temp unable to recall that Cracker Jack is her Feline Overlord, for an e to a chorusmate who's now medically disabled for next few months due to dental work (final 2 wisdom teeth out, bone infection [eeew!], broken bridge). Called Search for files with "pv" in title, 46 found. Need to make list as some I'd forgot, all are very usable at proper times (incl lovely Cat Constellation sympathy not remembered a-tall!)
syzygy, there was a bit on Care2Causes (where do I ever find anything else) in past wk about cats hunting. Birds actually only make up maybe 12% of what they catch. Need to Seek & Fetch a bit later.
Leepj, meant to mention last eve, 10 Feline Overlords here too. Backstory for you tho it should be in my profile (need to put some pix of them & maybe some predecessors there).
Eldest was adopted as kitten found howling under deck in driving rainstorm, by sons of earlier chorusmate. Older feline mistress of another chorusmate who's lost her house & couldn't take cat with her, adopted for rest of her life (several more yrs) very same day. Then mid-Apr 2007 a PG Maine Coon queen let herself into our garage to have the 3 she carried within. 2 sons remain, dtr adopted out to person recommended by yet another chorusmate but that didn't work out. Sure do hope dtr found someone to take her in, mommy not able to teach her to hunt. Minutes after return from distant vacation in Aug 2009, GangOf5 3.5 wk old kittens appeared under evergreen bush next to garage. I'd gone back out to car to bring in some more stuff & found them. Their mother was never seen; Plumbicon suspects they were dropped off by a human who knew we'd be a soft touch. Could've been left like 7 in backpack in winning tale/tail this wk but weren't, very luckily. Then former housecat who'd been playing feral for a while (found this out when took her to be spayed & found she'd already been) decided she'd spent enough winters outside, wished back in, so let self into our garage.
Gee! It's my normal rising time, after typing away for minutes! Can feed & med Ginger, then feed self out of one of cat bowls JFC's getting in early Sept in exch for chipping in to DDAardvark's Kayak for a Cure effort.
Also afore I forget, today's last day to apply for 1 of 22 initial grants to be given to anim rescues or spay/neuter places, pls follow this Link if this applies to you. I recommend it highly to TheIceQueen unless her place already has one.
