Ryan would be a great choice. He's a policy and budget wonk who is very articulate and thinks well on his feet.

Though the VP choice usually offers little voting advantage, Ryan's popularity in Wisconsin just might make a difference in that swing state.

Getting libs in a froth with their claims he wants to unhook granny's oxygen tank will help expose the fact he was one of the few voices in Congress with the political sack to tackle the massive budget hole Bush and Obama have created.

But he does have that Eddie Munster thing going.

It doesn't matter if you love him or hate him, he's just about the only asshole among them all that's put out a specific plan for debate. That has to count for something.

The discussion has to start somewhere.

/Somewhere.

Since Romney doesn't have a plan his VP pick should make up for it.

/I am all for this.

Ryan wants:

To give vouchers in exchange for cutting Medicaid
To keep the Bush tax cuts
To be offset by "closing loop holes in tax system TO BE DETERMINED LATER"

Not even on same planet let alone neighborhood to negotiate with that

Paul Ryan has way too much to lose to accept the role of R-Money's VP.

Aarontology: SO not only will Obama be able to point to Romney as wanting to raise taxes on the middle class in order to benefit the wealthy and largest businesses, he can add "destroying medicare in order to benefit the wealthy and largest businesses" to it too.

Brilliant.

It always amuses me when farktard liberals equate the Mayan calendar with sensible Medicare reforms. fark the facts that the growth of Medicare is 3x gdp growth. fark the fact that the average Medicare consumer utilizes 3x more than they put in... How about Romney just tells us what he plans to do other than not being Obama. We could debate that. Ryan's plan has been debated over and over and has been found lacking. It would be an anchor to an already drowning Romney.

I like both Ryan and Christie. Either would make a nice choice.

With them, you don't have the gay-bashing/bible-kissing/gun stroking/flag worshiping/NPR-hating/birth control-eschewing crap.

Talk about the budget and the economy. Those are the things that matter in this election.

Now this is pure discrimination--you straight boys got plenty of T&A shots of Palin, but where are the pics of Paul Ryan in a speedo? Or even posing shirtless? He is 100% pure evil, but he is also a stone-cold fox, tied with Aaron Schock (R-IL) for Member of Congress I Want to Molest.

Aaron Schock at least gives up the beefcake shots. Sadly, he is also evil.

vernonFL: I have a theory:

Much like he did at Bain, Mitt Romney started with something that was a little weak but had a lot of promise.

He's gotten lots of money from people like Rove and Sheldon Adelson

So why wouldn't Romney do what he does best? Take the money, suck everyone dry, and leave the Republican party a rusty useless shell while Romney jets off to the Bahamas?

Well - YEAH - but...

Treat the election for President of the US as a vulture capital hostile takeover? That's just not...

... wow. WOW.

It's not like he'd have to STAY in the US after the election --- just pack up and go --- wherever.

Could Romney really BE the Kwisatz Hederach of the long con, the master of trolls?

They'll pick him for the same reason they picked Palin in 2008: They're farked as things are, so take a shot at it.

Ryan beats a sharp stick in the eye, and he'll get out more voters than Portman or Pawlenty. Not enough for Romney to win, but it might prevent an utter collapse along the entire front with the close House and Senate races.

This. I live in Canada and as much as I can sometimes hate my job (mostly like it though), I know I can always quit or if I get laid off or fired, my family's health care is not affected. I think people in the US would be so much happier (less stressed) if their health wasn't linked to their employment. It would have a measurable health benefit on its own basis.

I also wonder the type of abuse (perhaps sexual harrassment) employees allow themselves to tolerate because they have sick family at home that depend on for health insurance. Many parents would put up with almost anything to ensure health care for their children. That's farked up and no way for a society to function.

At the height of the convention, with the eyes of the nation upon him, Mitt Romney will take the stage with an awkward smile and a gleam in his eyes. He'll fidget nervously, then start and stop his prepared speech a few times. Republicans in the crowd will start look at each other, some in fear and some with resigned acceptance that even the least offensive shiat-flavored ice cream is still edible if libs have to eat it too. People will rise angrily in their seats. Some will shrug to themselves. Eventually a sweat will break out across Romney's forehead. His eyes will dart back and forth across the convention. With slumping shoulders, he'll lean in towards the mic for one last chance at redemption...

"Tank you very much."

Then Mitt Romney will appear to give birth to Andy Kaufman live on stage.

He'll back over to the mic, smile, and deadpan "So... what'd I miss?"

/Tony Clifton will get tapped for VP

Unfortunately many people who depend on medicare will support the Ryan plan because they are stupid enough to believe thatit won't effect them and that's all that matters. They got theirs.

ftfy

Dismantling medicare and leaving the rump to deal with old people who arent dead yet would affect them enormously. Ever tried to be part of a dead system with no new users, gradually winding down money, providers jumping ship to the replacement etc etc? not nice, and even more not nice if you are sick, old and stupid.
