SO not only will Obama be able to point to Romney as wanting to raise taxes on the middle class in order to benefit the wealthy and largest businesses, he can add "destroying medicare in order to benefit the wealthy and largest businesses" to it too.

Brilliant.

Unfortunately many people who depend on medicare will support the Ryan plan because it won't effect them and that's all that matters. They got theirs.

Crap. I forgot that bribe to old people about how they'll still get the fantastic wonderful medicare that he needs to destroy because it's ruining everything.

I have a theory:

Much like he did at Bain, Mitt Romney started with something that was a little weak but had a lot of promise.

He's gotten lots of money from people like Rove and Sheldon Adelson

So why wouldn't Romney do what he does best? Take the money, suck everyone dry, and leave the Republican party a rusty useless shell while Romney jets off to the Bahamas?

Ryan reminds me of that kid from "The Omen".

"Former Presidential Candidate" has got to be worth at least an extra hundred grand in speaking fees.

You'd think wikipedia would make up a list of the twenty or so most likely VP candidates and just lock all their articles until someone gets picked.

They did after Cobert went to town on Pawlenty's a couple days ago, now all of the contenders are on semi lockdown, but still editable with permission. Ryan's page was edited 10 times between Jul 30 and Aug 6 and then 50 times yesterday and today, that's quite a spike. There is a similar spike on Rubio's page's edits as well, but a lot of that was semi vandalism and resulting corrections, not so much on the other candidates pages.

Ah, I suppose you can't lock them down completely, as in no edits at all. You need to be able to correct the last round of vandalism, which leaves an period of time open for new incorrect edits, which requires further correction ... and then by the time it's free of typos it doesn't matter anyway.

b) ryan wants to destroy medicare

Yes, you can keep it locked it down completely. The admins can roll back the edits to a previous version without ever having to unlock it.

Does anybody think Pawlenty is really up for it? I mean Pawlenty seems.... reasonable. He even criticized other candidates for pandering to the far-right craziness in his party. When it's time to double-down on the derp -- and the VP candidate will definitely have to double-down -- I just don't see Pawlenty doing it.

You clowncars ALREADY TRIED making Paul Ryan the Saviour of Conservatism.

And you found out he's completely toxic.

You know much the same as happened with Sarah Palin, Rand Paul, Bobby Jindal, Herman Cain, Newt Gingrich, Rick Perry, Michele Bachman, I can go on.

But go ahead I think you're all coonts anyway so it doesn't bother me.

That could be the wedge that finally drives the religious right out of politics again, like it was before Reagan. Then we could maybe even get back to Republicans like Eisenhower or Teddy Roosevelt.

Not likely, but it would be nice.

Pawlenty would be the Al Gore VP candidate. But he doesn't have a charismatic Presidential candidate to coattail-ride.

The apparently did do this for some of them this time around. I'm not sure exactly the details, but apparently they instituted a cut-off date whereby only people who had created accounts and had also previously edited the article before that time were allowed to make any new edits.

No, India's unemployment is rising fast. It's too corrupt to move there anymore, and getting relatively expensive. Pass that budget and we crash.

Paul Ryan has never worked in private business. By Mitt Romney's own criteria, this disqualifies Rep. Ryan from holding the office of Vice President.

I'm rooting for this, because there's a chance it would get Paul Ryan out of Congress.

Actually, when he first proposed it, some of the loudest against it in Wisconsin were the elderly already on Medicare saying, "Don't screw over my grandkids."

It was great really.

Paul Ryan has worked exactly the minimum amount of time in the private sector that the Federal Election Commission requires of a Vice Presidential candidate.

It's worse than that. Romney is using the The Producers strategy. Which is why his campaign reminds me so much of Springtime for Hitler.

2012-08-09 05:59:47 PM
This would either result in a disaster for the GOP or a disaster for the country. If Obama won, there is absolutely no way the Republican Party could say they were not "conservative" enough; Mitt Romney would have effectively run on the most "conservative" budget plan ever passed by a chamber of Congress that would accomplish almost all of their wet dreams, and the country would have given this plan the finger. OTOH, if Romney actually won, he'd be forced to actually implement that budget.
