Good job, Farker. They should have painted it pink, though.

you need permission for this?

Awesome. I can't wait for the color photos and the video.

That's pretty neat. I'm a little disturbed that nowadays even Mars Rovers are taking their shirts off and taking snaps of themselves in their bathroom mirrors.

I wonder what material the tires are made out of.

Just wait for the next generation of rovers, I hear they're working on duck lips.

I must say that I'm a little disappointed that some homeless martian hasn't squeegeed the dirt off the goddamned thing.
A tad tight-fisted with the loose change, cheap-ass NASA?

2012-08-09 01:51:02 PM

keithgabryelski: Not sure, but did you know the tires have JPL encoded in them in Morse Code

I did not know that.

No, but it uses the Marspace angle.

2012-08-09 01:56:18 PM
That really seems like a lot of exposed stuff for a hostile environment, but then, JPL is just my initials, not my employer, so what the hell do I know.

2012-08-09 01:56:30 PM
So...that's like... a thing. On Mars. And we put it there. And it's taking pictures of itself and sending them back to us.

As much as I hate humanity, man do we do some seriously cool shiat.

Mrs.Sharpier: must be lonely out there

Oh great you had to go all Wall-E and make me sad.

2012-08-09 01:56:48 PM
and get your ass to Mars

2012-08-09 01:57:19 PM
At some point in the last few days I stopped to think about the Curiosity and all the other probes and rovers and manned missions that preceded it, it is my conclusion that humanity kicks ass. If we could get over our petty differences and manage our resources better there is almost no limit to the things we could achieve. Why don't other people have the same conclusion?

I mean we are literally sitting around typing phonetic characters into electronic devices that can access the sum total of human knowledge (and porn) and communicating with a vast percentage of the whole species. We are using these devices to view images taken on another planet by a device the size of a compact car that we built and delivered using a goddamned rocket powered skycrane. We are so comfortable with these wondrous things that we are making jokes about it. It's not even amazing to us, most people react to this with, "yeah we send shiat to other planets whats the big deal?" Exploration and discovery are so ingrained in us that we don't even question it. It's just what we do.

Yeah yeah TLDR.

At least there aren't any trees or bushes to lose your ball in on Mars. Stupid tall grass.

If only exploring Mars had some value to the human race.

Colonizing Mars, while a cool idea, would end up being a waste of time.
