It is really very multi-layered. Jokes upon jokes and constant long-term setups and far-back references. Plus a ton of word play and double-entendres. Really one of the funniest shows ever.

Speaking as someone who just watched every episode for the first time over the course of the past week, THIS. My wife, who is not a native english speaker, watched some of them with me and while she laughed here and there she missed a lot. The best part really is picking up all the tiny subtle plays on words.

When I saw the copier bit mentioned in the article, I couldn't believe they got away with it. Also liked the constant "no, I've taught YOU a lesson" one upsmanship. Also, it was amusing watching this after watching Archer, as Lucille and the secretary (forget her name) are basically the same character.

Played by the same people too. Also, Jeffery Tambor plays Len Trexler, Mallory's love interest after Jackov.

The story is when Adam Reed where discussing the charcaters with the other writes, he pitched Mallory Archer as being just like Lucille Bluth. Then one of the writers suggested, "then let's get Jessica Walter".

It's going to be incredible.

"It's like a Bourne Identity-type plotline. It starts off with Archer as Bob, making hamburgers, but he doesn't know that he's Archer. He's at the restaurant and these, like, I think Russian thugs come in, and Bob dispatches them expertly. And then he's like, What just happened? How did I do that? So he has to try to figure out why he's so good at killing people."

The hardest I laughed at this show was pretty much the opposite of all the wonderful wordplay, when Tobias jumps off the balcony as Mrs. Featherbottom and totally biffs the landing into the coffee table.

I watched it religiously. Best show in the history of television. I have intentionally avoided it for a few years so I can really enjoy watching the whole series again. This article and the coming reboot have convinced me it's time. Yeah!

My favorite AD moment as well. Hell, the whole Mrs Featherbottom storyline from him breaking into Mary Poppins songs, Lindsay already being hammered by the time Michael comes home and she introduces him to Mrs Featherbottom, "Umm....Mrs Fingerbottom?". and not to mention the big reveal.

Honestly, AD is a smarter show and funnier for it. Archer is awesome, don't get me wrong, but it's not as good.

I can honestly say I laughed so hard I cried the first time I saw that joke. It was a thing of beauty.

More than once upon waking at night and groggily teetering to the bathroom to pee and get some water the image of the business card has spontaneously generated in my brain and made me start giggling and then laughing out loud. Once I woke the wife. Funniest damned thing ever.

I think it's just one of those shows you either get or you don't.

It never clicked for me either. I just found a lot of the characters kind of insufferable.

You must be right. But this is the only thing that's ever turned me into an insufferable proselytizing weirdo. Don't like my favorite band, movie, restaurant, comedian? Couldn't care less. But this show was so amazingly funny and always teetering on the brink of cancellation that I was BEGGING everyone I knew to watch it. Not only did I not want it cancelled but I really, really wanted everyone possible to enjoy the sheer brilliance of it.

Oh well.

I don't see anything in any of those quotes that would cause a standards and practices department to pull the plug. I mean, yeah a lot of those jokes are cleverly crafted, but unless there's an actual dirty word or a clear and direct reference to something unfit for the delicate US viewer's sensibilities you can get away with quite a bit... especially if you happen to be on a network that likes to think it's on the "edgy" side of content.

As long as you can hide your content in unspoken or interrupted dialogue, wrap it in double entendre or just beat around the... ummm... shrub, there's really not much to worry about from a fine standpoint.
