"And then I realized Susan B. Anthony, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Lucretia Mott, Alice Paul, Sojourner Truth, you name it, they were all in that chair, they were,"

What she is trying to do is equate her importance to the level of these people, as if she represented them. That, or she' nuts. Or both.

given all the time traveling Obama does, it's not ghosts he needs to worry about - it's a visit from the Hounds of Tindalos.

She is the first ever female Speaker of the House. That's a big farking deal, as our VP would say.

And she isn't equating what those women did to her own importance, merely saying that they opened doors and now she is praising their efforts and recognizing them for what they did that helped get her to where she was.

I can't believe I had to explain that.

It's both. Pelosi is delusional in a number of ways, including her own importance.

Not detracting from her achievements, mind you, but she was born into politics, has never done anything but politics, and sees herself as the pinnacle of political achievement. She is literally incapable of interacting with the world in a non-political way. Politics isn;t what she does, it is what she is. And that makes a person crazy.

/also, her and her husband are crooked, but that's a different toipic.

Actually, she was implying that she was the manifestation of these great women's efforts. That through her, their efforts had not been in vain. Thanks to Nancy Pelosi, FINALLY, their life's work had been accomplished.

Before Nancy Pelosi - frustrated and incomplete ghosts. After Nancy Pelosi - they can finally rest, the work having been completed.

Not really. Acknowledging that many famous women paved the way for your seat as House Speaker isn't the same thing. But irrational hatred makes people believe weird things.

She didn't merely acknowledge. Read her quote again. She described an actual experience in which the departed souls of women's rights activists returned from the grave to manifest themsleves in order to acknowledege that Nancy Pelosi, had, at long last, fulfilled their mission.

"But, as he was saying this, he was fading and this other thing was happening to me."
"My chair was getting crowded in," said Pelosi. "I swear this happened, never happened before, it never happened since."
"My chair was getting crowded in and I couldn't figure out what it was, it was like this," she said.
"And then I realized Susan B. Anthony, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Lucretia Mott, Alice Paul, Sojourner Truth, you name it, they were all in that chair, they were," said Pelosi. "More than I named and I could hear them say: 'At last we have a seat at the table.' And then they were gone."

She is describing an ACTUAL event she experienced where all the great women before her appeared to tell Nancy Pelosi that she had finally fulfilled their mission, and having done so could now depart. She swears it actually happened.

Delusion? Political Pandering? Hyperbolic Symbolism? True and legitimate vision? Dunno. But her story clearly presents Herself as the final manifestation of the completion of all the great women that had come before, and their acknowledgement of her achievement.

I can't help it if this is an inconvenient statement, or if it fails to fit in with preconcieved notions of Pelosi.

I miss the era of great speeches in American politics. Too bad the electorate lacks the education level necessary to really hear them properly. American politicians are sometimes damned fine philosophers, but they obviously have their own identity crisis. After all, how can such great political philosophy produce such a low literacy level? Something doesn't add up.

We get it. Your pre- conceived notion that she is a terrible person has obviously blinded you from a clearly metaphorical statement made at a conference for women.

No secret that I have a low regard for Pelosi. But this is not a subjective thing. It's not a metaphor when she explicitely says "I SWEAR THIS HAPPENED".

I'm sorry. If she had said something different, she would have said something different. But what she said is that is was an ACTUAL experience.

Again, ""My chair was getting crowded in," said Pelosi. "I swear this happened, never happened before, it never happened since."

That's not a metaphor. If I say "I am standing on the shoulders of giants" that is a metaphor. If I say "Tuesday, swear to god, I could feel the giants coughing beneath my feet. They moved so much, I almost fell over" that is not a metaphor.

So no. Try as you might, you cannot change what she said by refusing to acknowledge the words she spoke. You can argue whether it was a Delusion or Political Pandering or Hyperbolic Symbolism or True and legitimate vision if you like. You can surely argue that it never happened.

But you can't pretend she didn't say she had an actual experience.
