According to the Russian website Islam News, Mr Sattarov, 83, declared himself an Islamic prophet in the mid-1960s after interpreting sparks from a trolleybus cable as a divine light from God. (BBC)

You know, I love much of Stephen Baxter's stuff, but there's something about that book in particular that rubbed me the wrong way. Really didn't like it.

GIS'd for "mole people". Even more appropriate than expected.

Not that GIS'ing on mole people is ever, really, that appropriate.

Just when you think religion can't be any crazier.

Religion = Superstition + $$$$$ usually, but not always apparently

Why is there an automatic assumption some of the children "might" have been abused? Is it an immediate thought that "weird religious cult" = child abuse?

Also, how are the kids going to manage in daylight if they've never seen the sun? Are they going to become vampires?

Maybe because the last time authorities found kids who had spent their whole life in an underground bunker, they were the result of their dad/grandpa keeping their mother/sister in a rape dungeon?
