So the hotel gave to him 10 pillows? This is the "superior" service version of the "poor" service you see discussed on the Consumerist.com website. I mean it was neat of them but seriously they just gave to the guy the extra pillows. The local Red Roof Inn of me would do this.

Am I the only one who misread the headline, and pictured a motor home delivering a pillow fort?

Yeah, probably.

That's awesome. Even if it's only 10 pillows, they catered. Just... Next time get someone who can spell. :P

So, Clay Aiken and his friends stay there?

"As a kid, I used to make them all the time with my twin brother, Cliff. We didn't really have any toys growing up, so we had to make the best out of everything we had."

Dude get a job and fix that toy need.

I'm so trying this next time I stay at a hotel...

Everyone knows a pillow fort requires the TV and every lamp in the room. Amateur.

This past winter I was really sick with the flu, and my boyfriend made me a wonderful blanket/pillow fort.

Did he reinforce the structure with a blanket and post stuffed animal sentries? Because THAT is how you make a pillow fort.

Who really gives a flyng fark. Upon this request, I would have told him "Um, Sir, we're going to require cash payment up-front for your room. This is standard procedure for children traveling along."

I wonder if we could get enough patrons on board to create a pillow fort that encompasses the entire floor of a hotel.

Then start an epic war.

Sorry, folks. There is no upside to being in Winnipeg. The pillow fort was simply to make sure he returned home sane.

I wasn't so lucky.

Headso: the marketing manger for that hotel just blew a load in his pants

meh.. its one of the main go to Hotels as it is. No real need for advertising as the people who can afford it already stay there.

CSB time:

When I was a kid I would make a fort on the couch on Friday nights to watch the local monster movie show. Sometimes I would lay out a blanket on the floor and pretent that there was molten lava all around (we had orange shag carpet). When my son was little I got to re-live that several times with him. Good times! I know what I'm doing this Saturday night, although I doubt my 17 year old son will want to be involved. Maybe I can convince my wife to visit my fort ;-)

I read that as "pillow fart" and couldn't understand the use of the "cool" tag. I need a nap.

He probably should have just requested clean linens.

I would like to make a number of comments.

1.

meow said the dog: So the hotel gave to him 10 pillows? This is the "superior" service version of the "poor" service you see discussed on the Consumerist.com website. I mean it was neat of them but seriously they just gave to the guy the extra pillows. The local Red Roof Inn of me would do this.

This is the most coherent MSTD post I've ever seen. I also agree with the sentiment- if they'd BUILT the fort for him, and he walked into the room and saw that, it would be super awesome. But yeah, they gave him a dozen pillows. Wheee.

2. I mentioned it in a previous thread, but my future-wife and I converted her dorm room into a giant pillow fort on our first date.

3. This guy was confined to a hotel room, so I'll give him a pass, but not on the "best pillow fort ever" comment. It's a single room! If you aren't spanning halls and doorways, and incorporating at least 3 separate pieces of furniture, well, you've draped some blankets over a chair and called it a fort. Tail, leg, etc.

4. Does "No Girls Allowed" mean he can't have porn in there?

5. On the general subject of pillow forts, what does one consider acceptable in terms of defensive armaments? I'd understand the purist who said pillows only, but balled up pairs of socks make fantastic thrown weapons for multi fort wars, and it's pretty hard to get hurt by one. Nerf weapons? Ehhh...may be going too far.

6. The interior appointments of a pillow fort are almost as important a the exterior and design. One vanilla coke? Again, a pass because he's stuck in a hotel room, but you HAVE to incorporate the TV, a wide variety of snackables, other entertainment items, and possibly a tub/jar of ovaltine powder or hot chocolate mix, whichever floats your boat. Think of your fort not as a construct of furniture and sheets, but that magical tent from the Harry Potter series.

CSB:

I was ordering pizza online one Friday night for my kids and saw the special instructions box and couldn't help myself. I asked for a drawing of a dinosaur on the pizza box and sure enough they did it! It was even saying "RRRAAWWWRRRR!" My kids were cracking up and I appreciated the light-hearted response to my drunken whim.

TL;DR

Have a 5 y/o son and we had to take down the pillow fort this morning, as the cleaning lady comes today and would probably go ape-shiat. Though shell probably wonder what we were up to, with all of the pillows and blankets rolled up and tossed on the bed.

/will probably be rebuilt this weekend.

I used to stay at a hotel outside Milwaukee that would bring out a display of 10 different pillows and let you select what you wanted for your stay. They also had steam jets in the shower.

I'll admit it, I'm here for the dog fort pics.

I built a fort in my apartment for my son. Three stories high. Ninety 2x4s. Gonna have to pay some kids to move it for me when I move out.

I will say, although this town is a bit of a dump, the Fairmont really is awesome.

And expensive.

I'm the guy who made the fort. I was in town because work sent me there. They only provided the pillows and the blankets for me to make it happen, so I wouldn't say they had a giant part in me making the fort, taking pictures for the family, and going from there. Still nice of them to give me the tools to make it though.

And just like at Harrahs there is actually copious sex going on behind the closed door.

I grew up in the country and we didn't build too many pillow forts. We built real ones! One construction was an adaptation of a Creek Indian temporary shelter. This was to to cut saplings and drive them into the ground in two rows to make a square of about 6x6. Then we used twine and made bales of the sticks and packed pine straw into them. Some more sticks, twine and straw on top of thls for a roof. If you dug a small trench around this and a trench away from the low side it was pretty waterproof in all but the hardest rain (some roofing felt under the straw of the roof made it waterproof). It was well insulated and stayed warm enough to camp out in even in winter.
